Lev's POV
"Let's wrap it up guys, great work!" The head of the team I hired shouted to call their attention.
Finally.
The setting sun behind the forested mountain glowed amber, shedding little light as my human men pack up their bags and equipments, ready to go home.
Not as eager as me, though.
It's not about exhaustion, in fact I've barely used up my energy. Maybe I'm just more energized than usual that I managed to influence them working harder than usual, making a miracle of a progress.
I motioned for the head to come over, "Tell them not to go to work tomorrow, we'll continue the day after."
He nodded, gathering the group to announce before they dispersed. Group by group they started leaving the area, happily chatting with their comrades how tiring the day was and thankfully tomorrow's rest day. They deserve it, because there's only a few acres left to barricade. A few more days and we'll finally be free from our ties with the Vultur Pack. I'm doing it for Deity as much as for my myself.
She doesn't need to see her first mate building a family with Nerissa Quincy. She doesn't need another reason to think she'll forever be lonely and rejected. All she'll ever need is me and the family we will build.
'And the pack. My Luna needs a pack.' My wolf growled excitedly in my head. I just chuckled inwardly. He loves Deity, and keeps ranting how she'll be a true great and beautiful Luna.
Man, my wolf has serious fantasies.
What can I say, Deity Holland won me and my wolf over. Not to mention the sparks, damn, it's been so long since I felt it. And whatever happens, I'm never letting go of this chance to have a mate and start anew. Fuck Tyrone and his little game of dominance in the pack. Soon he'll realize that a powerful pack at your command is meaningless without a true Luna who can give you home and family.
Although I'm separating myself completely from the Vultur Pack that I once adored and served, just like my parents and ancestors, both my beautiful and miserable memories in the pack will remain with me. I've matured and now know my priorities. Deity is and will always be my priority.
As I lost sight of the men leaving, I turned to face the forest of the Vultur Lands in front of me. One by one, pack wolves emerged from the tree line, standing guard on both sides as the last of them emerged.
None other than Mayor Tyrone Pierce.
"Her scent's all over you," he scrunched his nose.
I stood proud. I'll gladly wear it like a perfume. I just stared at him, waiting for him to say what he wants to say so I can finally leave and spend time with my mate. My wolf's itching to spend time with her the way I now miss her.
"I can't believe how desperate you both are for company, that you're willing to share your bed with someone you just met. Ridiculous." He scoffed.
You won't be saying that after I marked her and bonded with her.
And for the record, wolves share more than their beds when they meet their mates. They start sharing a soul, and a deep connection no one will understand.
I'm not sweet, just committed.
I finally sighed, "You rejected her already. That basically means you have no concern whether we fuck or not." As blunt as it sounds, it's true.
His eyes widened, nosetrils flaring like a bull. Not a good sight, mind you. I just raised an eyebrow, waiting for him to pounce and look like a complete fool. After a moment of calming himself, he squinted his eyes on me. "She's human. Let's see how she'll react when she finds out you're not someone she can trust. For sure she'll run away from you screaming. You can't even keep a pack running, how much more keep her beside you?"
I just shrugged, "That's none of your business. If ever that happens and she'll run away screaming, the land is wide enough to chase her. It's just a matter of willingness, rather than already giving up without trying."
I left him there stunned, shifting into my midnight black wolf and running the rest of the way home. I burned my excess energy and stopped behind a tree at the edge of the tree line near the backyard. Its already dark, the lights are out. The mental image of last night made me want to climb up her bedroom window once more. I resisted the urge and grabbed the short I inserted in the tree hole and wore it. I used the backdoor and went straight in my room to have a shower. I did it as quick as possible and wore my boxers and pajama. Drying my hair with a towel, I walked towards her room and stopped in front of her door. Getting nervous, I held the knob and turned it.
Unlocked. She remembered.
My smiled widened, finally opening the door slowly and closing it as gentle as possible in order not to wake her up.
"Quit tiptoeing, you look like a thief."
Busted.
I chuckled, "Good to see you too, Mrs. Boo." I moved towards the bed, seeing her clutching the covers tightly. "What's wrong?" I asked gently, caressing her face.
"It's cold," she said shyly. "I was waiting for you to come."
'Luna. Luna. Luna....' My wolf kept ranting in excitement and I can't help but laugh internally. That is until he showed me a picture of me, us, marking Deity.
Holy hot chili.
I climbed the bed and hovered over her, burying my face in her neck. Her scent filled me like a taste of something heavenly and I growled lowly, wanting nothing but to sink my teeth on her neck and bonding with her right now. Deity pushed the covers aside and wrapped her arms and legs around me, exciting me even more.
Our lips met and moved in sync, consumed by the innate fire the bond is forming. I growled once more when she playfully bit my lip, pushing her close to me even more.
"We need to stop, or else I'll never be able to stop myself from making you completely mine." I said, breathing deeply after pulling away from the kiss.
Her hands cupped my face and I kissed her palm gently, "What's stopping you, Lev?"
The truth.
I gave her another kiss, "I want you to be sure of your feelings, that you want to be with a callous man like me. Not just because I was the only man who tried, who wanted to stay and know you for who you are. It's your decision because it's your feelings, not mine."
And because you still have to know the truth.
