Chapter 13 - Chapter XII: Chafing Coincidence

Deity's POV

The morning light's upon my face already when I woke up in a position where I can hardly breathe. Lev's arms and legs were wrapped around me as if I'm going to disappear any minute. I tried prying them off, but to no avail. He weighs like a polar bear.

I huffed in defeat, turning to face Flavia who's still too immersed in reading the books she seemed interested in.

"Need a little help here, bookworm." I called in a low voice.

She just smirked, "You got yourself in that mess, I'm sure you can untangle yourself as well."

I glared playfully, "What are you even reading? Shakespeare? Or Don Quixote? Is that more important than me?" I exaggerated with a theatrical tone.

Her expression became serious and I felt the room's temperature suddenly dropping. "This is important because I'm doing this for you."

I was not able to say anything. Luckily, she doesn't mind explaning.

And Lev doesn't mind snoring.

"I find it strange that you can see me, talk to me. I find it strange that you can see ghosts more than a normal person with third eyes should. No human can do that, because only those with witch blood can sense spirits around them. As a half-witch growing up, I've seen full-blooded witches doing rituals just to summon the dead. You can, surprisingly, even without doing so."

I opened and closed my mouth but no words came out for a while. When I calmed down I barely spoke, "I don't know what to say... Does that mean there is a possibility that I am like you?"

"Maybe more than that," she answered. "The kind of witches I know who can contact spirits of the dead without difficulties are Necromancers. That's why I'm reading so much about them, so we can both understand whether the qualities apply to you."

"And what if it doesn't?" I asked.

She just shrugged, "There's no harm in trying."

I smiled at her warmly, "Thank you, Flav."

I tried sitting up, but Lev's arms tightened around me and pulled me closer. He groaned, sniffing my neck and kissing me good morning. "Who were you talking to, Mrs. Boo?"

I giggled, "Remember when I told you I see some things other people don't?" He nodded so I continued, "A ghost who owns this house before still lives in this house. Her name's Flavia. She's a great company whenever you're out at work. I was just talking to her."

Lev gently hovered over me and stared deeply into my eyes, as if searching for something. "You're happy," he finally said. "You have that glow in your eyes." He kissed me on the lips softly. "I'm fine with Flavia sharing the house with us, just tell her to keep away from the showers."

I laughed when Flavia glared at him, "She hates you now, she'll hunt you for the rest of your life."

"Kidding," he chuckled, lifting me off the bed in one sweep. "Let's go out on a date, but first, breakfast."

"Aye, aye, captain!"

We went to the cinema, walked along the beach and drove around town visiting sights and local tourist spots. We enjoyed the day, forgetting about everything but the fact that we have each other.

It was refreshing to see him smiling all day, not seeing a glimpse of the grumpy man I first met. Occasionally we would pass by people from the mayor's community and they would immediately tense up, disbelief clouding their faces. I got the impression that most people think Lev was reserved and stoic. At first, I thought he was demanding, bossy, tough and arrogant.

He still is, but in a way that I like.

"You need to buy a new phone or our landline bills will reach its peak," I joked. "Besides, I have no way to contact you whenever you're out in the woods."

He chuckled, "Then expect me to be calling every hour I'm away."

I groaned, "You're joking right?"

He turned serious, "No."

"Burn," I huffed. "Let's go."

We decided to eat after that, choosing a cozy restaurant overlooking the cityscape. The food was undeniably delectable and we ridiculously ignored each other the first few minutes we were busy eating. How I wish I could cook like this.

"I take it you approve of my new business venture?"

I stopped cautiously when I heard the formality in her voice. It wasn't threatening, but it lacked warmth and I don't think Lev liked it either.

Nerissa Quincy.

Nevertheless, the food must not suffer. "It's great, congratulations."

She smiled a little, "You wouldn't mind if I sit here for a while, would you? I'm waiting for a friend."

"Not at all," I said.

"Lev," she greeted him and he only nodded. "I see you've been busy... fencing the land. In my opinion, there is no need for that."

We're not asking for your opinion, actually.

Lev smirked, "You see, there is a need for that. Otherwise, you wouldn't stand a chance when another full moon comes and nature decides to act on its own."

The challenging look in his eyes made her a little agitated. Heck, me too. I can feel myself shivering from the way they are staring at each other, not backing down. If not for the unusual canine showing up on the side of Nerissa's lips due to anger, I would've been jealous.

"Um, guys, people are watching." I whispered. They leaned away from each other, but not backing down. Finally, they both looked away.

It was my turn to be grilled by her, "So, how was your visit to the psychiatrist?" When I just stared at her she feigned a surprised look, "Oh, you didn't go. Would that be alright for your health?"

Lev growled lowly, weird I know. I decided to just answer her politely, "Thank's for your concern, but there is no need for that. I'm not that paranoid to force someone to give up her land and banish her with someone who will keep her on the line because I was too afraid she'll overstep her borders and start claiming ours. Talk about weird protocols of weird people."

That's when I heard her growl at me, hands clenching. Lev overpowered her will before she can lunge at me though, supernaturally forcing her to look at him while exerting dominance. My memory kept all these things piled up for future reference because I am definitely going to ask Lev all these weird habits. Nerissa was forced to look at him and submit, breathing deeply.

Lev almost barked, "Do not show your attitude in front of my mate, Quincy. Especially if I'm present."

"M-Mate?" Her voice was almost a whisper.

"She's mine," He whispered back with ferocity.

My eyes narrowed at them both, choosing to stay silent and ask questions later.

There is definitely something wrong with the people living in that community. Lev included.
