Chapter 6 - Chapter six: Summer with Betty

The rest of the days were used to practice how to behave towards Betty. Ellen's parents and Ellen cleaned the rooms for Betty and her grandparents. Ellen was somehow sad and somehow excited. Excited because she was going to see her old friend and sad because she felt guilty for forgetting about her and she was thinking during the summer, maybe Betty might figure out the truth.

One early morning, Mr. Roberts took his van to the airport, Ellen knew what that meant, her grandparents and Betty were coming today. After a few hours, the van honked. Ellen slowly and gradually stood up from her chair in her room, climbed down the stairs, opened the door and went outside. Her mum was already outside and was hugging her grandparents.

"Ellenkins!" Her grandpa shouted and she run to hug him and Nonna together.

"I missed you guys so much. Why couldn't you come see me last year!"Ellen asked

"Just some complications, but we're here and we are not alone."Gramps said and went to open the back seat of the van. A slightly blonde girl stepped out of the van. She was a little shorter than Ellen and very beautiful. The memories of eight years ago flashed in Ellen's mind. Betty didn't look different at all except she had grown thin in a healthy way. Betty walked towards her and smiled."Long time, no see."Betty said and added "I really missed you."

"I missed you too."There were tears in their eyes and Betty wrapped her arms around her.Ellen responded by hugging her too. They then broke apart and Ellen and her parents helped carry Betty and her grandparents bags to their rooms.

"This is your room, Betty?"Mrs. Roberts said to Betty when she opened the bedroom door. Ellen was behind her with some of her bags.Betty then laughed and said "Can you believe I always imagined I will be sleeping in the same room with you?"

"Well, that is not really a bad idea. Ellen, what do you think about it?"Ellen wanted to say no to her mum but she knew that would be rude so she just agreed and moved Betty's bags to her room. Ellen's room was bigger as compared to the room which was given to Betty. Everything was pink. Betty remembered how Ellen used to love pink. She heard a soft chirp and at the corner of the room,a cage hanged on a hook and inside the cage was a beautiful parakeet.

"Ellen, you finally have a bird as your pet.Still remember how you used to daydream about flying like a bird."Betty said and they both laughed.

"I will tell my dad to bring the other wardrobe here for your clothes. I'm sure it will fit here."Ellen said and left Betty alone to admire Golda.
