Chapter 12
Beatrice sighed, watching the man walk to her.
He looked innocent but she could see through him. These were the kind of people her mother had warned her to avoid.
She was not a little girl before her mother's death. Although she had looked so small, she was mature enough to know the things that went through the mansion.
"Why would a lady such as yourself be all alone, Milady?" The man that had come to the upper stairs where she has taken for a rest asked.
Beatrice didn't want to refuse a man a dance thereby bringing Shame to him, but she didn't like them crawling to her feet.
She didn't know that courting toasting a woman would be this bothersome on the part of the woman.
She sighed, rubbing her head as she muttered some words.
"I am fine Milord, I am just tired." She said, praying he would let her be.
She didn't have the time to talk with anyone, and how she wished to bang Mel's head on a wheel.
"Oh, and here I was thinking about asking your hand for a dance. Bad timing I guess." The man said to have Beatrice nod.
"I am Mane."
"Mane?" Beatrice asked with a raised brow.
That was indeed an unusual name.
"My mother at a tender age, loved the manes of horses and she used some of them to make clothes for me back then, hereby the name came along." The man explained.
"The name suits you well," Beatrice said, staring at the man's long hair that reached his waist.
"Ha ha ha, don't flatter me, Lady Beatrice, after all, is the prettiest in the room." Mane said.
"Ha Milord, they ladies may hear that and pursue me, please not that kind of compliment."
"Ehhmmmm." Beatrice turned to the voice that had coughed.
She frowned, seeing who he was, and looked away.
Why was the Lord bothering her life for the day?
She didn't know why. But there was something that wanted to be anywhere
but the Lord.
"Mane is it?" The Lord asked for the man to give a bow.
"Is it the party you came for? Or is it the men you came to seek an alliance with? or is it the ladies you came to mingle with?" The Lord asked.
"Oh, I came for all Milord, like they said it is better to choose faster than to lose." The young lad said.
Beatrice not wanting to be part of the discussion, sighed.
"Excuse me then Milord, I will go have a word with my sister."
Leaving the two men alone, Beatrice rolled her eyes as she saw Mel walking toward her with a smile.
"What is it?"
"He asked for an address," Mel said, to have Beatrice squint her eyes.
"And you didn't give it to him. I'm I right sister?"
"Oh, I gave it to him. I'm not like you dear sister he looks handsome and he is a congressman and a vampire for that matter." Mel said, turning to view the man's back as he talked to the other man.
"I don't care what you do sister, don't bring them running in and out of the mansion."
"Is that jealousy I smell?" Mel teased and Beatrice snorted.
"It is not dear sister, it is protection you smell."
"Are you leaving the banquet so soon Lady Beatrice?"
"Lady Herbert, I don't feel good and my head is aching, I will leave now," Beatrice said.
"Oh no, I wanted to introduce you to some friends, how about a drink Beatrice.. nothing but a drink." Lady Herbert said to have Beatrice thinking.
"A drink as you have said, it would not be more than one Lady Herbert," Beatrice said and the woman nodded.
"Come along as well Melissa, it would do me more good for two," Herbert said, smiling at Mel.
"And it is not Melissa Milady, it is Melinda," Mel said.
"Ahh, my bad then." The woman smiled again.
Beatrice's smile fell when she walked to the table that was a room from the banquet hall.
The table was round and had up to eight chairs and the man that sat on the top didn't skip her eyes.
Wasn't the Lord with another man at the stairs a while ago?
"Sorry everyone, I wanted to get a friend here." Lady Herbert said.
"Hmm, is she the woman Yuan spoke of? She's quite a beauty." The man with red eyes spoke.
"Beatrice this is Lord Niklaus, of the Land of Bathon and as you know, this is Lord Wolfarine of the Land of Viscoria. And this is Lady Yuan, Alpha Zane, and Lady Isabella." Herbert explained.
Beatrice smiled at everyone, her lips stretched.
"Ahh and Lord Niklaus is a Cold-blooded Vampire, just like you Beatrice." Lady Herbert added, to have Beatrice's eyes widen.
"It's been so long since I met someone like me. It's nice to meet you, Lord Niklaus." She gave a slight bow.
"Hmm, it is a pleasure to meet you well Beatrice. I would like to have a word with you later." Lord Niklaus said to have Beatrice nod.
The Lord of Viscoria stood up and left the table, whispering some words with the Lord of Bathon.
They seemed close. Beatrice thought as she ate her bread silently.
Biting her bread in peace, she felt a pull on her dress, and then came a hit.
Beatrice glared down at her sister's leg that was poking her down the table.
The girl was a nuisance and a troublemaker.
Just as Beatrice was about to raise the tea to her lips, another hit came making the tea pour on her dress.
"Ahh, Melinda!" She yelled, standing up as the other did as well.
"Pardon me, Milord, my dear sister forgot her manners at home for her to yell at the table," Mel said, giving the Lord a slight bow.
Beatrice clenched her fist as Lady Herbert smiled at her.
"Kali?"
"Milady?"
"Show Lady Beatrice the restroom for her to clean up and provide a more suiting dress." Lady Yuan said to have the maid nod.
Glancing back at her sister who gave her a huge smile, Beatrice shook her head and followed the maid.
