Chapter 2 - Waking up in a strange place

Jasper opened his eyes, and at that moment, he got up abruptly from the ground where he was.

He couldn't pay attention to anything around him as he was more busy coughing as he felt his throat completely dry.

However, when the cough calmed down a bit, he watched a black-haired young man next to him stood up only to start coughing.

Jasper then decided to pay attention to where he was, so he looked around him and realized that he was in a small room that was lit only by a yellow light.

The walls and the floor were completely white, but they were quite dirty, so the place had a somewhat gloomy atmosphere.

The door, however, was completely different, as it was cold looking and completely free of rust. Even he could see its reflection through the polished metal.

Jasper noticed that his body had changed as his skin was darker and his green eyes turned brown, while his hair was brown.

However, the changes in his body did not bother him, as he was more concerned with the fact that his appearance seemed to be that of a young man in his early 20s who was too athletic.

Touching his new face in some disbelief, he proceeded to look at his hands before ducking his head and looking at the white clothes he was wearing.

When the young man next to him finished coughing, he noticed that he was looking at his reflection in a rather curious way, as if his Asian appearance were something new.

This went on for a few minutes until the strange young man turned his head and looked at Jesper with a smile.

"Nice to meet you. My name is Dimitri and I am a cosmonaut from the USSR."

Jasper then started laughing and hugged Dimitri in a surprising way. When they separated, Jasper patted Dimitri on his shoulder.

"I think you already know me, well I know you too, but it's rude not to introduce yourself when you already did.

My name is Jasper, and I am an astronaut from the United States."

Dimitri started laughing and looked happily at his comrade. "I see we ended up in the same place after going through so much.

But I don't understand why we changed bodies even though the most important thing right now is to know where we are.

I don't like the style of this place at all; it looks like a prison or a quite abandoned room.

We should go out and investigate, but one thing I'm absolutely sure of is that this place is better than being near the sun."

The two of them got up from the ground and headed towards the door where, once they arrived, Jesper slowly pushed it open.

The door opened with a small creak; when it was fully open.

They could see a huge corridor which had many doors which were completely closed, however the state of the place worried them a bit.

This was mainly because they could see the deterioration that existed in the walls, the ceiling, and the floor.

As they left the room and walked down the hall a bit the door behind them closed, so as they turned their heads they looked at the door.

Jasper just shook his head. "This place is strange in many ways, but I just hope we find answers and not more questions."

After this, they walked through the small corridor until they reached some stairs. After climbing them, they were able to reach a huge rest area.

In it they could see a huge glass window, which allowed to see the immensity of space, however what most caught their attention was the planet that rotated silently.

The planet was surrounded by strange rings, while the planet's surface was completely covered in ice.

But they could only see the planet up close through the glass, as there didn't seem to be a sun or any other planet in the distance.

While the stars in the distance showed a contrast in sight so a sense of loneliness could be felt.

Dimitri who was looking at the strange planet turned his head and began to see the place where they were.

But he could only see a few pieces of furniture in poor condition which were arranged in an erratic manner, even in one of the corners he could see a hospital bed that had a medical gown on it.

Jesper who had also stopped looking at the window paid attention to his surroundings, but it didn't take long for his attention to focus on some kind of store that seemed to have the image of a shopping basket.

"I think I found a place to get some water or alternatively some food."

Dimitri looked where Jesper was pointing and nodded, so the two walked into the store, opening the polished metal door and looking at the shabby shelves.

However, despite that, they were able to see some bottles that seemed to contain liquid as well as many silver wrappers that seemed to contain food.

Jasper walked over to one of the bottles and opened it, at which point he detected a fruity aroma, so he realized that the liquid was in good condition.

As he drank the strange fruit punch-flavored liquid, Dimitri picked up a silver packet and opened it, only to discover some crackers.

Taking one of them, he realized that it was a vanilla cookie, so he bit into it and he could feel a mild flavor that stimulated his taste buds.

So a tear fell from his face. "It's been a long time since I been able to taste food other than a nutritious paste.

You should try these cookies, Jasper. although they are not a hamburger, they have a taste that reminds me of home."

Jasper who had just finished drinking sighed and picked up one of the silver wrappers.

"I don't like to admit it, but this place seems to be a space base, however it is a very advanced one because at no time did I feel that I could float.

Do you think we're on some kind of alien ship?"

Dimitri shrugged his shoulders and sat down in a nearby bucket.

"It could be possible. That would explain why we switched bodies, but why would the aliens care to leave us human food?

Wouldn't it be easier for them to just give us nutritious paste or something weird?"
