Chapter 34: Who's responsible?
Mr Woods who was fast asleep in his home was awoken by a noise coming from outside his bedroom. He couldn't make out what the noise was from there, so he decided to go investigate. But the moment he walked right through his bedroom door he was hit in the head with something hard.
He fell to the ground as he groaned in pain. He became dizzy and disorientated. He could vaguely see the figure of a man towering over him. He placed his hand behind his head and could feel wetness. He was bleeding, and his blood was the last thing he saw before the darkness consumed him.....
Lucas picked up Mr Woods and slowly took him outside were the a parked black opel vivaro van was waiting. He flung Mr Woods body inside and got in himself. And the driver drove off.
Meanwhile the next morning back at the hospital Tony was still waiting for Steve's reports. He had spent the night at hospital. And at some point the doctors allowed him to see Steve who was still unconscious and not totally out of harm's way.
Tony walked into the room were Steve was kept and then he saw him. He didn't look so good, his head was all bandaged up and there was a cast on his right leg. His face was badly bruised and swollen. Seeing him like this made Tony really upset and sad.
He hieved a sigh and sat on the chair next to Steve's bed. "Please don't tell me you were drunk. You know l always warned you to stop driving when your drunk. Now look what you've done to yourself. Are you happy now?" Tony asked but didn't get any response. "Your mom is gonna be here any moment and who do you think she's gonna blame when she sees you in this state. Huh.. Me. She's gonna blame me for your recklessness. She going to ask me why l didn't look out for you." Tony said and let out a dry laugh. For as long as he could remember he had always been looking out for Steve. And now this time he failed. He remembered when they were still young and Steve would put up a fight with the big kids in class and when they were about to beat the crap out of him he would go over to defend him and the big kids would end up beating the crap out of both of them. Or when Steve was given detention in school as a problem child he was. Tony would wait back in school for Steve until his detention was over. Just so that they could walk home together. Tony recalled all the mischief he had to get into, all because he had a friend like Steve. He smiled as he remembered but as he looked up at Steve the smile faded. Then a nurse walked in.
"Sir please it's time you leave." The nurse said really politely.
Tony nodded stood up to leave. He went back to the waiting area were he was suprised to see Lucas standing in the hall way.
"Is Jeremy here?" Tony asked.
"No. But he sent me."
Tony rolled his eyes." There's no news about Steve yet, so you can go back and tell him that."
"He didn't send me here for that." Lucas said as he opened a bag and took out a tablet and handed it over to Tony. Tony took it from him and turned it on. It began to play a video. In the video a man was clearly seen tampering with the breaks of a car. Steve's car. After watching it Tony passed the tablet back to Lucas.
"Does he know who's responsible?" Tony asked calmly.
"Yes." Lucas replied. And Tony nodded.
