Chapter 8 - Family Part-02

Zero took a deep breath as he entered the small hospital, his heart heavy with the weight of emotions. Seeking information about his mother, he approached the nurse's station with a mixture of anticipation and trepidation. "Excuse me, can you tell me where my mother is?" he asked, his voice trembling slightly.

The nurse looked up from her paperwork and smiled sympathetically. "Of course, dear. Your mother is in room 10, just down the hallway."

"Thank you," Zero replied with gratitude, trying to steady his emotions. He also inquired about Doctor Kaila, hoping to gather more information. "And where can I find Doctor Kaila?"

The nurse pointed towards a door further down the hallway. "Doctor Kaila is in his office. You can find him there."

With a nod, Zero proceeded down the hospital corridor. His heart pounded in his chest as he approached room 10. Taking a deep breath, he opened the door and entered.

Inside, he was met with a bittersweet sight—a frail woman lying in the bed, her face and body weakened by illness. Tears welled up in his eyes as he gazed upon his mother. Unbeknownst to him, tears streamed down his face, silently expressing the pain he felt deep within.

With a voice filled with sadness, Zero whispered, "So, this is Zero's mother."

Approaching the bedside, he studied the woman's delicate features. He reached out a trembling hand, cautiously brushing a strand of hair away from her forehead. The touch was tender, filled with a mixture of longing and sorrow.

Memories flooded his mind—visions of a mother he had never truly known, but whose presence had always been absent from his life. The stories he had heard, the void that had lingered, all converged in this solemn moment.

As Zero stood there, his heart heavy with unspoken words and unanswered questions, he couldn't help but wonder about the woman before him. What dreams did she once have? What joys and sorrows had she experienced? And how had fate conspired to separate them until this very moment?

Deep in his soul, Zero yearned for a connection, a bond that had eluded him for so long. His thoughts drifted to the years he had spent alone, playing games to escape the harsh reality of the world. But now, faced with the fragility of life and the presence of his mother, he realized the value of human connection, of family.

Taking a seat by the bedside, Zero held his mother's hand gently, as if hoping to infuse her with strength and warmth. He spoke softly, the words filled with both longing and regret. "Mother, I'm here. I may not have known you all these years, but I want you to know that I'm your son. I wish we had more time together, to create memories and share our lives. But even now, in this moment, I want you to know that you're not alone. I'm here, and I will be here for you."

Silence enveloped the room as Zero sat, his presence a silent comfort amidst the turmoil. In that small hospital room, a fragile connection between mother and son began to form—a connection that would transcend time and circumstances.

Zero stood up, determination in his eyes. "Okay, now let's meet the doctor," he said to himself.

He exited the room and made his way toward Doctor Kaila's office. Taking a deep breath, he entered and greeted the doctor. "Doctor Kaila, can I talk to you for a moment?"

Doctor Kaila looked up from his desk, surprised by Zero's presence. "Yes, of course. Did you come to see your mother?"

Zero nodded, his gaze focused. "Yes, but I also need to discuss something important with you."

The doctor motioned for Zero to take a seat. "Sit down, and tell me what's on your mind."

Zero settled into the chair, collecting his thoughts. "I recently learned about a plant called the Thousand Years Mana Flower. It is said to contain an abundance of mana and can be used to create high-rank healing potions capable of curing various illnesses. Is that true?"

Doctor Kaila furrowed his brow, appearing somewhat perplexed. "Yes, it is true. The Thousand Years Mana Flower does possess remarkable healing properties. However, it is a rare and costly flower."

Curiosity and concern filled the doctor's voice as he continued, "But why are you asking about it? Is it because of your mother's condition?"

With a heavy heart, Zero reached into his pocket and carefully placed the Thousand Years Mana Flower on the table. Doctor Kaila's eyes widened in astonishment upon seeing the precious flower.

"How did you come across this? Did you venture into the forest? Does your father know about this?" Doctor Kaila asked, his voice tinged with worry.

Zero took a moment before answering. "No, my father doesn't know. I heard about this flower from a hunter who mentioned that it could be found in the forest. That's why I went there, and somehow I discovered it inside a pond."

The doctor sighed, a mixture of understanding and concern etched on his face. "I understand why you took that risk, but you must realize the dangers of venturing into the forest alone."

Inwardly, Zero decided not to mention the encounter with the monster that led to his current situation. "I won't burden the doctor with the details of the monster attack and my reincarnation," he thought to himself.

Doctor Kaila nodded, acknowledging the seriousness of the situation. "I won't inform your father, but you must promise me that you will not venture into the forest alone again, alright?"

Zero nodded in agreement, understanding the importance of the promise he was making. "Okay, I promise not to go into the forest alone anymore," he said firmly.

Zero's mind raced as he grappled with the revelation that the Thousand Years Mana Flower wouldn't directly cure his mother's illness. It would provide her with the strength to fight the illness herself. The weight of the situation pressed upon him, filling him with a sense of guilt and helplessness. "So, Zero sacrificed his life for something that cannot cure his mother. I feel even worse now," he thought.

Seeking clarification, Zero addressed the doctor, his voice tinged with hope. "So, while the flower cannot cure her illness, it can help alleviate my mother's pain, right?"

Doctor Kaila nodded, empathetically understanding Zero's desire to provide relief for his mother. "Yes, it can provide some relief, but if you want to fully cure your mother's illness, you will need a high-rank elixir."

Curiosity ignited within Zero as he contemplated the notion of an elixir. "An elixir? What is that?"

Doctor Kaila sighed a hint of regret in his voice. "I'm afraid I can only create potions. Elixirs are much more complex and challenging to make. You will need to find someone skilled in crafting elixirs, but they are rare to come by."

Zero absorbed the information, his determination resurfacing stronger than ever. He thanked Doctor Kaila for his honesty, gratitude evident in his voice. With newfound purpose, Zero left the doctor's office, his mind abuzz with thoughts of finding a skilled alchemist who could create the elixir needed to cure his mother's illness. He was determined to explore this fantasy world not only to gain power and unravel its mysteries but also to save the most important person in his life. And so, his journey to seek a cure began, leading him down a path filled with danger, discovery, and the unwavering hope of a son determined to heal his mother.
