Chapter 12 - Your Choice

Zero ventured deeper into the forest, carrying the lifeless corpse from his previous battle. He knew it was essential to dispose of it properly, so he opened his inventory with a simple touch. The corpse item icon materialized before him and was gently placed on the ground. "Okay, time to move on. I can't afford any more unexpected quests," he muttered, wanting to avoid any further complications.

However, his moment of peace was abruptly shattered by a heart-wrenching cry that echoed through the forest. His curiosity piqued, he couldn't resist investigating the source of the sound. Quietly, he approached the scene, concealing himself behind a tree to observe. There, a small and wounded wolf cub lay, crying out in pain.

His initial instinct urged him to leave, thinking, "I should steer clear of this. I don't need any additional trouble." But as he turned to walk away, a window popped up before him, presenting a new quest that he couldn't ignore.

Zero's annoyance was evident as he mumbled, "How can I save this creature?" The idea of helping a monster seemed contradictory, but the enticing promise of leveling up and gaining a hint for the next quest tempted him to consider the challenge.

"So, now you're giving me a choice? Kill me if you want, you stupid system," he grumbled, expressing his frustration with the unpredictable nature of the quests. After a moment of contemplation, he decided to take on the quest. "Okay, I'll do this quest. Give me the hint, and I'll try to save the wolf," he said, turning around and walking back to the wounded creature.

Standing before the little wolf, Zero weighed his options carefully. "I have two choices: save it or kill it," he mused while staring at the injured animal. "The previous quest granted me a health potion. If that can help, then saving it might be the right thing to do. I understand it's a monster, but I don't want to become an enemy to the entire wolf species. If this little wolf is part of the wolf monster hierarchy, it might track me down and seek revenge."

He realized that both choices carried risks, and he could potentially face deadly consequences either way. Nevertheless, he believed that saving the wolf was the best course of action for now. "So, saving it is the best choice," he resolved.

Zero opened his inventory, searching for the health potion he had obtained earlier.

He took the potion and cautiously approached the wolf cub, holding its mouth gently to administer the healing elixir. The little wolf squirmed, showing signs of fear and resistance, but Zero tried to comfort it with a reassuring expression. "Don't worry, little one. I'm trying to help you. Just stay calm, and everything will be fine," he said in a soothing tone.

With great care, he poured the entire potion into the wolf's mouth. Almost immediately, the magical liquid began to work its wonders, gradually healing the creature's wounds. However, the healing process seemed to exhaust the wolf, and it soon fell unconscious.

Concerned about the wolf's reaction when it wakes, Zero decided it was best to leave the scene and return to the village. "I hope I did the right thing," he thought as he made his way back, wondering what consequences his actions might bring.
