Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Deep in the wilderness far away from any known civilizations excited a village, or maybe it was a tribe. The details were not important, but this tribe was certainly different from the average village or tribe that existed in other parts of the world. The people in this tribe were able to harness a certain power, Mysticism. No one in the tribe really knew what mysticism was, but they were able to use it and it enhanced their lifestyle. Thus they used it and lived in a tight knit community living their life through the days.

Just like any other day in the tribe, Toki woke up. He looked around his room, and all the other kids had all left. Just as usual he thought as he slowly dragged himself off his bunk. The others didn't even bother waking him up anymore. Well he also had fault in that as he wouldn't usually wake up if they didn't force him awake, thus both the other children and caretakers didn't bother with him anymore. He lazily put on his clothes and slowly trotted his way to the dining room, before setting himself next to Dean. Unlike most of the other kids Dean usually ate really slowly and thus was almost the only one who stayed long enough to eat together with me. Toki liked Dean the most in the tribe as aside from both of them being orphaned from young they were both considered odd by both the other kids and adults in the tribe. As they sat and ate they didn't talk which was the norm for them as they usually didn't and instead enjoyed the quiet.

After eating, Toki decided to find a new hiding spot where he could hide his "collection". For some reason he didn't really know himself; he loved collecting old items. Be it used bowls, broken weapons or other miscellaneous items. Just the other day his collection was found and disposed of by the caretakers and he had been forced into manual labor for it. So this time he was looking for a new era to start a new collection. He was thinking of going to the high trees to find Dean, as Dean usually liked being there, but it was usually too dark to see in that part of the forest. Toki found it strange how Dean liked being in dark areas like that as he himself found it uncomfortable. Still Toki continued through the tribe looking for an ideal place to hide his new collection, when he walked past the training grounds.

As usual the training grounds was filled with a lot of kids and some of the younger mystic users, and they were showing off their powers to the younger kids. All tribesmen went through their awakening after their 14 year, when they would go to the awakening ground and become mystic users. Personally, Toki didn't really understand why so many of the kids, especially the orphans, wanted to get the mystic powers just to become hunters. He understood the benifits of gaining strenght to protect themselves but there was still better ways to live using mystic powerst other than hunting. personally he hated fighting and there was no way he ever wanted to become a hunter just to end up like his parents. He also feared the low chance that he couldn't handle his aquired power and just enden up dying under the awakening. Not wanting to end up like that, Toki hoped he awakened a more peaceful affinity where he wasn't required to hunt and was less volatile . Oh how he dreaded next week as it was the next awakening ceremony and he just passed his 14 year. Trying to get his mind off it he chose to keep searching for somewhere to start his new collection.

As Toki was searching he also liked looking at what other tribesmen were doing. Other than those training the young there were multiple tribesmen who were fulfilling other parts of their daily lives. Some young mothers were playing with their young, or washing clothes with the help of their mystic abilities. Some of the tribesmen with more nature related abilities helped grow trees and plants for food and building resources. As usual the hunters were out hunting for food from the nearby forest and maybe up the mountains if prey was scarce.

Toki liked walking around the tribe like this as he could observe part of everyone's life. He really liked observing and not doing. Maybe that was why he was slightly outcast, as both the other children and the adults found it weird that a child liked just looking at them doing both the ordinary and extraordinary. When they asked him if he wanted to join in he would always refuse, sometimes even looking offended that they invited him. But when just left alone to observe he would sit happily even risking punishment from the caretakers just so he could finish observing the thing he was looking at. Most of the tribesmen still found him weird but they had gotten used to it at this point. Thus he kept walking through the tribe. Sometimes stopping to observe the tribe's daily behavior, but nevertheless walking until he reached the end of the tribe at the riverside.

The river was one of Toki's favorite destinations. He would always go there to walk up and down it for hours looking into it. He didn't know why but he loved looking at the river getting lost in its flow, he felt that there were countless stories in its streams that were waiting to be told but couldn't as no one understood the streams. Still he liked looking at it, sitting by the riverside, listening, watching and feeling the fresh air. Another thing he liked about the river was that it was essentially unvisited as the tribe had already exterminated all fish life in it by abusing their mystic abilities to pull out all the fish. Thus he could sit there, or walk up and down it in silence knowing that nobody would listen. As he sat there watching the river suddenly he saw a bright flash walking over to look more closely he saw a strange blade lodged in the riverside. As if he was enchanted, he walked into the river and picked up the blade. It was long and heavy with a shiny reflective edge, none like the ones found in the tribe.
