After finishing eating, the old man decided to sleep early as he still needed to work tomorrow. The three kids wandered around the west branch church area. They are looking at every place and Zeon trying to check the expenditure reports from all the things that he sees along the way. There's nothing wrong with it. Inside the church is well maintained, there is some wild grass but most of it has already been cleaned, the food as we tried before tastes quite good where the vegetable is fresh and the meat is quite new, nothing seems wrong with it. Zeon finds three areas that were restricted and being guarded by a deacon. He remembered those places and decided to look at them tonight.
Finished playing around, Zeon, Li, and Toast decided to go into their room that had already been prepared beside the old man room. Entering the room they are greeted by a king sized bed that was big enough for the three of them to sleep in it. There is nothing fancy inside the room, but it was pretty clean and still good to sleep in.
"Zeon, you need to wake me up if something happens." Li said while resting on the bed. He started to feel sleepy and decided to take some rest. Today is a long day, training in the morning then visiting every branch church in the empire.
Zeon opened his communication device and started to type some reports about today's journey to his grandpa. He also specifically stated that the bishop who led the west branch church was not as good as he previously imagined. After coming directly to check the condition of the west branch church, he felt some weird thing happened inside this church. He also asked his grandpa about the usual procedure of checking the expenditure reports of each branch church.
Not long after his grandpa replied that usually every branch church will be notified in advance the day before the team in charge of checking the branch church expenses comes to conduct an investigation at the location in question. Grandpa Auguste also asked if Zeon needed some help to do the inspection. Zeon felt very lucky today that he met grandpa Capricorn before coming to this branch church because when they are coming together with grandpa Capricorn, they can enter the church without alarming the branch church personnel of their real purpose. The bishop must have hidden many things before some of the previous expenditure investigation teams that came to this branch church managed to see suspicious things that happened around here.
Zeon replied to his grandpa that he doesn't need to worry about his safety because there are Li and Toast who protected him. He also said that he met a kind grandpa along the way before arriving at the west branch church so he can see the real personality of the personnel in the west branch church. Zeon informed his grandpa about the old man's background story and that he's very grateful for his kindness when he's donating his own personal money to help the three of them to get inside the branch church without alerting anyone. He also stated that the old man has a granddaughter in the principality and asked his grandpa to let aunt Sera to pay more attention and take more care of Eveline. After checking one more time that he typed the important thing correctly, he sent the last message to his grandpa.
Before closing his communication device, Zeon noticed that Toast sent a message to him and checking the time of the message, he felt a little weird why Toast didn't say directly when he's next to Zeon. Opening Toast message, Zeon finally can read the content inside it. Toast says that he feels that grandpa Capricorn is dangerous from the first time he sees him at the chicken stall, he has the same vibe as the pope. Zeon feels that if he has the same characteristics as his grandpa doesn't that mean that he's only an old and kind person.
Zeon followed Toast's example and replied to him through the message. He asked Toast why didn't they just talk normally when they're just beside each other. Toast immediately replied that he doesn't want to alarm grandpa Capricorn and let the old man hear what he felt about him, what if his feeling is wrong? he'll only hurt the old man's feelings. Zeon thought that Toast made sense but if he himself wasn't really sure about it then it's better to discuss more clearly with Toast.
[Zeon: Toast, what do you think about Grandpa Capricorn after seeing his deeds tonight?]
[Toast: He loves his granddaughter. He's rich. He looks old but still a hard worker.]
[Zeon: Then if he's as dangerous as you feel, why is he very kind to us and create such an opportunity for the three of us to get inside the west branch church without alarming anyone by donating a pile of money to the church? Maybe he's not that dangerous. I know that we need to stay alert around strangers, but after hearing his story we know that he must be more capable than an ordinary person because he could go to the frontline inside the border a decade ago.]
[Toast: You're right Zeon, maybe I'm overthinking things. After what he's been doing for us I also think that he's a kind person. But didn't you feel weird by how fluent when he's interacting with the bishop?]
[Zeon: That.. I'm also thinking a little bit about it, but as we know that grandpa Capricorn is a successful businessman and he's also focused on gathering information as his occupation so I think he's already been dealing a lot with people that have the same nature as bishop Haris. He must have mastered the way of lobbying and bribing to get the attention and friendship of his sources, I think that's normal in their occupation to have those traits.]
[Toast: Like when he gets our friendship when he's telling us about his life story?]
[Zeon: …]
Zeon feels weird and doesn't know how to deny Toast's question because It's also a kind of probability even though it's almost nonexistent.
[Toast: Forget it, maybe I'm thinking a little too much. It's just because of my ability that I can still live until today when I lost my memories. Maybe I'm a little too dependent on it. I should see more by differentiating people with their actual actions and not just my feelings.]
[Zeon: I think you're right, Toast. But you don't need to worry too much because I'm pretty sure that grandpa Capricorn didn't have any bad thoughts at all toward us. He even tells us about his granddaughter's circumstances which mean that he really trusts us and actually really needs our help to befriend her someday. You said it yourself that he really loves his granddaughter. Someone who really cares about his granddaughter won't have any bad thoughts for someone with similar ages to her especially when all of us come from the church. He said that his granddaughter is a devout believer of the holy one teaching then he definitely won't have any bad thoughts toward the person who will be her granddaughter's future friend.]
[Toast: It makes sense, Zeon. Thinking more about it, I think my feeling tells me that he is dangerous because he's a veteran of war who would usually be interviewed on the news channel.]
[Zeon: Alright, let's rest for a bit, Toast. I'll wake you up when it's time for our investigation to begin. We still have some hours until midnight.]
Zeon and Toast closed his communication device and took a rest. Li has already been sleeping for a while, he definitely doesn't know about Zeon and Toast's discussion about grandpa Capricorn. Ignorance is bliss, and that's true in this matter as they are only a kid, they wouldn't have experience in the matter of conspiracy, scheme, and such. They also didn't find any malice in grandpa Capricorn's actions and it's also Zeon who invited him to stay the night with them so the whole happening tonight is just a coincidence.
It was already midnight and Zeon opened his closed eyes. He didn't really sleep and only closed his eyes to rest a little while thinking about their next operation investigating the restricted area in the west branch church. Zeon wakes Li and Toast up then starts to discuss their preparation. They need a backup reason for when they get found out. As their location is in the guest area, their first target is the special guest house area where the bishop's friend lives. Zeon didn't understand why someone needed to hide their friends. It's possible that he doesn't want other people to disturb his friend's time, but with the bishop's shady personality, he doubts that. Zeon decided to act together and not be scattered while doing the investigation because their safety is the most important.
