Chapter 18 - Chapter 18

[Are you alright Rudeus?] Laplace questioned, worry and exhaustion flooding through me and combining with my own. Forcing my pain stricken body up I dismissed the remains of the container I created using earth magic, briefly taking notice of something outside of my equations.

[I'm fine Laplace.] I responded while healing any injuries that may have occurred during the process using healing magic. It was a fairly dangerous spell so I had a few of my organs completely destroyed. Luckily, healing magic was extraordinarily simple compared to attack magic with the required scientific knowledge and mana.

Regardless, the container was extremely strong however it was still destroyed quite easily by the pure amount of mana I used. If I used the same amount outside of the box it wouldn't have had nearly the same reaction but since it was trapped inside until the box broke it ended up becoming much more destructive than usual.

Near the end of the process, the container was broken and my mana was able to spread out which was extremely worrying. Without the added pressure of my mana my injuries were lessened but with the extreme pain I was experiencing I couldn't control my mana as well as I usually do.

With my mana control at an all time low, something like me accidentally causing a flood or creating a small mountain was possible. Luckily it was close enough to the end of the spell where nothing much happened. Though I suppose the villagers wouldn't quite agree.

The ground all around me was completely destroyed with the earth itself being raised in some places, huge puddles resembling lakes in others, lava dotted around, and the wind itself seemed to change radically from little to nothing to near tornados within seconds.

It seemed like hell on earth though it could hardly be considered that beyond appearance alone. The temperature changes may kill a normal person if they entered for over ten minutes but it wasn't that bad, at least not in this world

Regardless, I caused it so I was responsible. Besides, I bet mom and Lilia would enjoy a picnic here so destroying it would be a shame. However before I could even begin to fix it a surge of worry came from Laplace, a feature we had chosen to keep intact.

[Are you sure you should be using magic? Your body needs time to get used to the new position of your soul!] Laplace explained hurriedly, his worry being transmitted from his tone and our mental connection.

[I'm fine.] I explained briefly, not bothering to go into detail. With all of my mana returned and even enhanced somehow I felt extremely light similar to whenever I actually slept the recommended number of hours.

Besides, I didn't have much of a choice. With my mana being released so haphazardly like it was I'm sure people from all around sensed it and may investigate the area. Even now my father is running over at a high speed.

With his current pace, he'll be here in about seven minutes so it'd be best to hurry. Integrating all the water into the earth and dousing the lava I dismantled the obsidian and used it to fertilize the earth around us before finally leveling the ground to what it had been before.

Wiping away the blood trickling from my nose I sat down and took out my notebook. This time I learned a lot about mana, specifically how dangerous it can be if it can't spread out when not controlled.

[Laplace do you know why mana capacity is bigger?] I questioned him while scribbling down in my fifth notebook. I noticed earlier but only really could tell when I used magic since my mana sense is all messed up by how much mana I released into the area but my mana is over double the size it was earlier.

[As the main soul you have access to all of my mana.] Laplace explained casually. My previous theory was that mana is connected to lifeforce and while that isn't wrong it is a little different than that.

Mana is connected to lifeforce but that lifeforce comes from the soul. From what Laplace explained about the reincarnation magic he used the body he inhabits is supposed to be born without a soul so that he can inhabit it without any foreign life force's interference and that is why he could only meet me on my third birthday.

It was also probably the reason I was able to be reborn in this body. I assume that Laplace would either successfully be reincarnated in my current body or it would have been a stillborn birth.

Regardless, gaining access to Laplace's mana was an unexpected result of becoming the main soul. I expected something would happen as a result but I didn't expect that I would get something so beneficial.

"Hi, dad." Looking over to my side I greeted dad who was looking at me in a strange mix of emotions. I could tell that he wanted to know what happened but he didn't want to push me which was good. I knew he would take it well but telling him that I housed the soul of the Demon God wasn't a conversation I wanted to have.

"Hey, son. Does Zenith know you're here?" Dad asked as he sat down beside me, his emotions calming down beside me with a fierce determination in his voice. He was caked in sweat from his run here but unsurprisingly he seemed extremely relieved.

He probably ran here after sensing my mana spread throughout the atmosphere when the container I made broke and since my mana was being combined with Laplace's at the time I must have seemed extremely terrifying.

"I told her." I responded briefly. I did inform her but I doubt she would have let me go if she knew I was going to go so far away. I'm probably going to be scolded for going so far away since dad will definitely tattle on me. Besides Roxy is on her way so he'd get caught anyway.

"That's good. I won't pry and this is weird coming from me, but feel free to talk to us. I might not be the best person to talk to but at least talk to Zenith or Lilia." Dad advised me, awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck.

Is this the first time he's given fatherly advice? I'm going to tell mom. She'll be so proud of him for growing as a parent. Maybe one day he'll stop lusting after Lilia too though that's about as likely as the Technique God falling from the sky right in front of me. It's not impossible but it's damn close.

"Paul! Is everythin- Rudy?!" Roxy shouted as she ran up the hill covered in sweat despite her mana being used to enhance her muscles using a magic circle we created together. It was less versatile than being able to adapt how your mana is distributed on a moment's notice but it was better than nothing.

"We're fine Roxy." Paul shouted at her, lightly waving his hand through the air to get her attention. If I remember correctly Roxy's birthday is coming soon which would be a perfect time to give her the completed magic circle version of Mana Sense.

I had completed it fairly recently however it had taken me longer than expected so I chose to push it off until her birthday. Luckily my soul should be intune with my body once again by the time her birthday comes so it won't be an issue.

Now that I think about it, this is the first time I'm excited about a birthday.
