Chapter 17 - Chapter 17

"Mom, Miss Lilia, I'm going to go play outside!" I shouted from the doorway. After nearly a week of difficulties, the magic circle has been completed. Soon enough my body will be completely mine again.

"Have fun!" Mom shouted out as I closed the door behind me. Strictly speaking, this would be far from fun for either me or Laplace and most likely it will result in widespread destruction if I make a mistake or am not careful.

[You felt extremely possessive again. Am I that much of a bother?] Laplace questioned, his tone reminding me of a kicked puppy. The answer to his question is extremely obvious to the point where even a child would know.

[Of course, you are. You've experienced everything with me so you should understand.] I replied bluntly. It wasn't his fault however the current situation between us was extremely annoying to deal with.

[You don't have to be so mean about it.] Laplace muttered sadly, the same disappointment a child would hold after being told something they thought was cool was wrong flooding through me.

How could this guy wage a war?

In any case, what we're doing can't be done anywhere near our house or even the village for that matter just in case something goes wrong and I end up accidentally using Saint ranked magic.

Well it wouldn't be Saint ranked magic but it would have the same power so either way the village would definitely be destroyed if I'm not careful. I may not care for the village but my family lives here and at the very least Mom and Lilia like it and that means I'll protect it.

Enhancing my body with what I called Aura but is actually called Touki or Battle Aura I ran forward while simultaneously surrounding myself in a skin tight film of mana to bounce all light off of me effectively invisible and surrounding a one meter diameter sphere around me in mana that removed all wind resistance.

With all of that combined, I was still much slower than dad but I was still many times faster than the fastest runner in my last life. Hell, I can probably compete with a few cars. Regardless, my speed is pretty slow even with my fairly strong body from abusing healing magic and all the magic I am using.

Within an hour or so I was over ten kilometers away from the village where it should be safe from any damage or at the very least it will survive with minimal damage. Either way, the distance gives me time to hopefully stop whatever may go wrong.

[Are you ready?] Laplace questioned worriedly, his concerns leaking over. Normally such a spell would be painful to the point of torture without even considering my heightened sense of pain resulting from my heightened senses.

"Of course I am." I muttered to myself, an earthen wall completely made of a metal alloy comprising of dozens of different metals to ensure the best durability possible about five meters long on each side surrounding me.

Clapping my hands together I formed a small six sided die of hundreds of thousands of magic circles or hexagons I suppose all in order to house the soul of the Demon God within me. Closing my eyes in concentration I increased the size of the dice to encompass the entirety of the square.

In my Mana Sense, the box I was in seemed to be as bright as the sun with various wavelengths and shades of all colors creating a strange but beautiful rainbow. Ignoring the sound of my box cracking from the pure density of the mana stored in the container I pushed forward.

Finalizing the magic circle they all glowed brightly before once again shrinking down to the size of a normal dice floating in the air, the amount of mana in it creating a small gravitational field. Taking a deep breath to calm any nerves I may hold I grasped the dice in my hand.

"!!!" As soon as the dice touched my skin it vanished into my body to accomplish it's task however with that came pain, overwhelming pain. Spitting up a glob of blood from my blood flow being disturbed as my soul moved I fell to the ground in pure pain.

It was hell. I could barely think straight, even the grunts of pain from Laplace seemed distant. The constant buzz in my ear and the feeling of wind on my skin were overwhelmed by pure pain. Even my own heartbeat wasn't present.

It was as though I was dying.

Flinching Paul rapidly turned around, his sword in hand and poised to attack whatever caused that sensation. The sensation of pure dread that he only ever felt against the hardest of enemies back when he was an adventurer.

"Paul?" His companion Laws questioned him in a tone of worry, but he didn't have time for that. Whatever IT was, it was dangerous. So dangerous that he felt like he would die just by going near IT.

Despite his time as an adventurer Paul couldn't even begin to imagine what IT was, all that he knew was that it was bad news. His instincts were screaming at him to run but as bad a position it was right now, he was the lord of this place.

"Laws. Go get Roxy." Paul demanded seriously. He doubted it was necessary, the talented mage had definitely already noticed but on the infinitely small chance she hadn't Laws would be able to get her.

"Wha-? Paul?!" Law shouted as Paul ran through the forest, dodging all the foliage and roots and occasionally cutting a few trees that he couldn't dodge. Paul wasn't one for mindless destruction but he didn't have time to care for the specifics.

If he didn't get there in time he could tell that IT wasn't just a few trees that be destroyed, the entire nation might vanish. With every step he took the feeling of death breathing down his neck got stronger only enforcing the danger level in his mind.

Running at his top speed it only took ten minutes for him to arrive at where he assumed the source was. It was hard to tell since IT suddenly vanished on his way there even though it got stronger every second.

But when he arrived there was no scene of destruction, no overwhelming sense of fear, and no terrifying monster. Instead, there was only a small boy reading a book with traces of blood leaking from his nose.

It wasn't just any boy, it was his boy. Paul expected to see all sorts of things when he arrived. He was confident that even the Demon God Laplace wasn't out of the picture but he never once expected his son to be the one who made him feel such fear.

"Hi, dad." Rudy said without a change in emotion as blood trickled from his nose, a tone full of love and joy filling his voice as it usually did. Paul wanted to know what happened, desperately even, but…

"Hey, son. Does Zenith know you're here?" He asked with his usual smile as he took a seat beside his child. His own flesh and blood who he would never betray, never force his expectation on, or force to answer him by using his love for him as leverage. Rudy may be a monster way stronger than him, but he was still his son.

And nothing would change that.
