Her words vibrated in my mind.
I quickly lowered my body to the floor, "Queen Usha."
All the words froze over me, "what have you been doing?"
I glanced up, still kneeing, and lightly spoke, "Queen Usha, I was only planning on going to the top deck and look at the sea. I haven't been this far out before. Nor have I been on this kind of vessel." I quickly locked eyes with the goblin, "this ship."
"That does not explain your presence here, nor the reason why you stayed quiet when we arrived." Her words short, curt, and cold. Her smile was terrifyingly beautiful, but her words were angry.
"I wasn't trying to offend. I wasn't sure if I was allowed to go up there, so when others passed," I noted quietly. I shook my head and whispered lighter, "I went the other way."
"Stand up."
I listened and faced all of them.
The elf in the matching robe spoke, "I have heard about you." He dragged his finger underneath his eye to his temple and continued, "Your name is Sapphire, correct? Officer Theodoric's ward?"
I slightly lowered my overcoat off my left shoulder. Just enough to hide the sigil. "I was."
I glanced back at Queen Usha, and her piercing eyes darted to my lower body.
Switching positions to knee down, I whispered, "I beg for your forgiveness, Queen Usha. Regardless of what I thought, I should have never hidden away."
"Get out." Her words were clear and dark. "Now." This time she flung her long finger toward the door.
I stepped up and started walking towards the entrance. Keeping my head down, I thanked her. Holding my hands to my chest, I walked out and quickly shut the door. I made it to the stairs and sat down, releasing my breath and fists. Grabbing the front of my hair, I combed it out through my fingers fervently. I need to get back to my room. I got up and walked upstairs. I closed my eyes and repeated spoke aloud, "don't listen. Don't listen." Regardless of what I desired; the wind brought me their words. I rushed to the level of my lodging and quickly ran in, delicately slamming the door.
Pushing my back on the door, I fell to my bottom. Pushing the back of my head to the door, I push down the palm of my hands to cover my ears. I don't want to listen. Sylphs, please stop. I don't want to hear it. Bits and pieces came though.
* Flynn, keep an eye on that young elf. *
* I understand the sacrifice, the bond, that was created from this mission, between Orders and with Seirios. I have read countless reports, including the report about your master's death. I understand the reason why she retrieved him, ignoring the time sensitivity of the mission. *
* That mutt was a small detail to the assignment. *
* I can wait until after the war to give Seirios back. But, if you truly desire to keep him by then, I'll need a better reason, besides their brutality. *
* Yes Commander. *
I moved to the desk and digressed. You were right Sylphs. You always know what I want. I did leave this room to eavesdrop, especially on the Queen. I must thank you for sending it my way. I was honestly uneasy about their sudden arrival. But, regardless, you knew what I wanted. Thank you, Sylphs.
I removed Theo's clothing and placed it where I found it. Grabbing my linen shawl, I reminisced about my children. The triplets were the ones who made this. Many holes shaped this into a strange half circle.
I know why I am here. I chose this. I left my children for this. It's literally my only first night. I'm not so weak willed. Putting pressure on both my hands, a ball of wind stirred and on the other hand, fire spark. I'm not here for nothing. I have a use, and its not only to be a mother. The spark exhausted at the thought.
Shutting my eyes, I repeated thought again. I am a mother. I may not be their mother, but I am their mother. I don't have to be just a mother. I can do it all. The rotating ball expanded and dispersed. The wave of air woke my uncle.
He looked down and half asleep grunted, "why are you still awake? Do you have something on your mind?"
I glanced up and rolled my eyes. "I'm fine uncle."
"Then go to bed." He laid back down, and he quickly went back to snoring.
I looked toward the door. Flattening my uneasiness, I pinch the bridge of my nose. It was a rendezvous. Barley anyone attended. They won't tell him. They won't kick me off. I just need to prove myself.
Putting my head to my pillow, I waited until morning with my eyes closed. I hoped I would fall asleep now, rather than later.
