I scowled at the thought of getting caught on just my first night. Moving further away from the animals, I waved both hands to silence the lights. The voices grew in volume and in participants.
The door cracked open. I covered my mouth and lifted my head up to see the ceiling. The door swiftly opened, slamming it to the other side.
Four elves, one goblin, and two demons walked through. Commander Usha and her two elven guards. Flynn. An officer in Theo's Order. His sigil matching my attire. Another officer in the Assassin's Order. The last officer in the Hunter's Order.
The two guards walked around before the Commander fully walked in. Nothing was completely out of the ordinary.
Widening my eyes, I thought to myself. Seriously, you ignorant elves. I cut myself off, and thought of something else: phew, I'm not caught, at least not yet. Her guards are too arrogant. I know they are sensitive to others, besides elves. Thank goodness.
Commander Usha's braided hair nearly strolled on the floor, and she moved it to the front of her body. "Where is that mutt? That graceless human muttonhead Taariq, he wants it back."
The demoness hunter fought back, "Commander, we were able secure Seirios out of the Union. How could you be so easily swayed to give him back. Especially after my master lost her life to bring him here." Her threatening voice riled the animals around her. The canines stayed with Seirios, but the ones in cages were roaring with excitement. The hunter's horns curled to the back.
The Commander glowered and raised her arm to the front of her guards, who were preparing to remove their weapons.
I moved my hands to my chest and stayed in silence.
This time Flynn spoke, "I understand a wave of emotions are happening here. Queen Usha, Commander of the Myriads, excuse me." He darted his eyes at the huntress and quickly covered her, "I doubt that we want to –."
She harshly responded, "Flynn, do not intervene." She glanced at both the goblin and other demon officer, "you as well, do not interfere."
The hunter kneed down and quickly rephrased, "my queen, I only ask that you do not waste my master's sacrifice for a dog."
"Huntress. Do not lessen your master's death. This dog has lesser value than the real assignment. Your master gave his life for the mission." Her eyes glowed vividly, "Do not take me lightly."
Still kneeing and lowering her proud head, she sighed, "I do not mean to insult. It took many resources and personnel to get this mutt, but regardless of that, we were successful in both the mission and retrieval."
The warrior blade shone this way. He interrupted the hunter, "Excuse me. This assignment took more than two guilds to complete. With that, it created a stronger relationship between us. I understand that the beast was a side benefit but is it really necessary to release him back to the humans and deter our bond." He bowed down respectfully. Eyeing the goblin, the warrior grumbled.
The goblin flattened her smile and looked away.
"We are at war. Taariq has accepted our request in the use of all the Union's resources for assistance with one condition. And that is with that animal." She pointed him out. "I understand that it's a ridiculous condition. We cannot increase our fronts." Her eyes dimmed to her natural coral color. "Do not undermine the bond between guilds."
She glanced at the animal's treatment and questioned the hunter about the care being given.
She stood up, shrugged her shoulders, "It's only right to take care of animals. He could have been ours, or anyone of us. I hope that if I'm wounded, someone will come to help me."
One of her guards noticed Seirios looking away from them. She nudged her partner and moved away from the group. Squinting at her sigil, I tried harder to not move. Four triangles in the spaces of the letter X. Going clockwise: air, fire, earth, water. The ends of the letter were arrows. I shut my eyes. Seriously, an elementalist.
As soon as I recognized her sigil, a bright, white static bolt appeared in front of me.
I protected my eyes with my arm.
The goblin ran to the wall to ensure the validity of the structure, "what do you think you are doing? Do you comprehend that water vessels are fragile? What is wrong with…" She trailed off as soon as she saw me. Pointing and screaming, "intruder".
Every single one of them, in a matter of seconds, shifted to an attack stance. Another lightning bolt barley grazed my forearm.
I dropped that arm and moved my other hand up in the air. "Hello. Technically, I guess I am an intruder. But not an intruder on the ship." I sprinted to the goblin and grabbed her hand, "My name is Sapphire. I hope you can teach me your love for this ship."
She hesitated. Therefore, I continued, "I don't want to stereotype you into obsessing over creating things. You just seemed a bit worried for the ship. I hope I can pick your mature brain on this."
I quickly moved away from her and smiled at the group. Placing my hand on my chest, and slightly bowing, "Again, my name is Sapphire. I'm sorry that I ventured outside my lodging. I also didn't mean to listen to your -." I looked up and froze.
Queen Usha's eyes blazed. Her smiled stayed intact. "Sapphire, yes. I remember you."
Flynn moved between us. In a draconian tone, he demanded my reason for being there. "I recognize that the officers are arrogant and are allowed to have a discussion with the Commander. But, what makes you think you can be arrogant youngin?" He repeated thumped his foot on the ground.
I lifted my head, and pointed out, "it's confidence. Not arrogance."
"Silence!"
