Chapter 55 - Chapter 55

Evie looked anywhere but Ezekiel. The awkward silence was also not helping.

"I asked you a question, wife," Ezekiel taunted knowingly.

Evie shut her eyes and pretended not to hear him.

"Should I repeat the question, Evelynn?" Ezekiel asked, using his palm to return her face to him.

Evie gulped looking him straight in the eyes. Those perfect ocean blue eyes were so captivating and alluring.

"No," Evie hurriedly said.

"Then answer me," Ezekiel demanded.

Evie swallowed. She did not know what Ezekiel was up to. Why was he suddenly so affectionate towards her? She didn't like it because him behaving this way made her feel things she did not want to.

"Yes, I do like what I see. You really have a muscular body and your beauty is top notch," Evie replied boldly, still holding his gaze.

Ezekiel's expression was unreadable for a few seconds until a smile appeared on his face. She indeed liked what she saw.

He straightened his position and walked away from her to stand by the window.

"Emm, who raised the alarm that I was drowning?" Evie asked, hoping to get a reply from Ezekiel.

Ezekiel did not reply and Evie decided to give up on the discussion, besides there were still a lot of people she could get the information from.

She shut her eyes and relaxed her head on the pillow humming a song.

"Juicy raised the alarm and I came to the rescue immediately. There were still important guests around that was why I had to bring you out of the bathroom myself," Ezekiel replied, earning a stunned look from Evie.

He saw her naked! Like completely naked!

Evie choked on her salvia making her cough. Ezekiel did not bother to look at her or try to soothe her, he was still by the window, backing her.

Evie kept on coughing causing Ezekiel to let out a sigh and left her room.

Soon he was back with a glass of water, he handed it over to her and she gulped the whole content in one drink.

"Okay now?" Ezekiel asked.

"Yes," came Evie's reply.

"I am sorry for the inconveniences I caused you," Evie apologized instantly.

"There is no need for the apology, it is not as if I haven't seen a woman completely naked before," Ezekiel said the last part to see her reaction. He bet she would look surprised and then jealous.

True to his words, there was a surprised look on Evie's face which later turned into an angry face.

Ezekiel stared at her with an amused smile on his face, the more he got closer to her, the more enticing she was.

Evie swallowed and looked away from Ezekiel, she knew he was still looking at her which she didn't know why.

"Did something affect my appearance?" Evie asked after Ezekiel refused to tear his gaze away from her.

At once Ezekiel returned to his normal expression, his gaze became unreadable and Evie regretted asking that question.

Only if Evie knew that Ezekiel was affected by her and did not know how to say it.

"The nurse said that you should rest for a long while," Ezekiel muttered.

"Lie down," he ordered and Evie obeyed without complaining.

"Sleep," came another order.

"I don't want to sleep," Evie complained.

Ezekiel heaved deeply before muttering something Evie could not hear, all she knew was that Ezekiel was saying something and surprisingly her eyelids became heavy and before she knew what was happening she slept off.

Ezekiel looked at the now sleeping Evie and shook his head, he steadily approached her and used the blanket to cover her up.

He shut the door behind him as he walked out of her room.

He sighed, running his hand through his head.

Evie was getting to him, she was affecting him the way he did not like, he was meant to stay far away from her but here he was getting more entangled with her.

She was one of a kind, she was different from others but yet his heart doesn't want to open up.

After everything was taken away from him, he changed, he was burnt in hell showing that there was no more redemption for him.

He had an ugly past and a past that would forever hunt him no matter what.

Prophecy? That was a cock and bull story, he did not believe in that, there was no way a woman would have her way in his life.

He was a mysterious man, he had mysteries surrounding him.

Ezekiel was so lost in his thoughts that he did not know when he got to his room, it was until Paul yelled his name that he had known that he was in his room.

He ignored his two friends and went to sit on the sofa, he threw his head backwards and shut his eyes.

"So how was it? Did you guys make out?" It was no other than Paul who asked. Who else was stupid enough to ask silly question apart from Paul?

"Are you dumb Paul? She is actually recovering from drowning herself and you expect Ezekiel to make out with her?" Xander asked.

"Anything is possible," Paul replied sheepishly.

"What is she doing now?" Paul asked again, earning a sigh from Xander.

Paul never changes.

"Sleeping," Ezekiel replied.

"You put her to sleep right? So tell me what lullaby you sang for her?" Paul asked again.

"I put her to sleep with a spell, hope you are satisfied with my reply," Ezekiel opened his eyes and glared at him.

"So if I may ask, why are the both of you here?" Ezekiel asked, his eyes glued on his two friends.

"Sonia is still alive," Xander wasted no time in replying.

"I know," Ezekiel answered, not looking surprised at all.

"You knew all along," Paul added.

"Yes I did, but she made a request to be silent and act as if she is dead. I know she is planning something against Richard and her mother Laura but it is none of my business as long as it doesn't affect my family," Ezekiel explained.

"So she asked you to lie to her daughter?" Xander asked, his voice changed a little bit due to anger.

Ezekiel did not reply and Xander took his silence for a yes.

"And you agreed. You see your wife everyday, crying out her eyes because her mother relayed a fake news that she is dead," Xander said with irritation in his voice.

"Sometimes, some things are not meant to be known. It is best for Evelynn that she does not know that her mother is still alive, at least until I know what she is up to," Ezekiel explained.

"You don't want anything bad to happen to your lovely wife right?" Paul asked, as usual making fun of every situation.

"Any more words from you then I would kick your ass out of my room," Ezekiel warned him.

Paul was playful but he knew his boundaries, so he shut up immediately.

"What about Laura Kings? Whatever she is here for must not be good," Xander stated.

"I haven't seen her as a threat yet, but I got my eyes on everyone related to Evelynn. Even if she commands respect, I know that she wouldn't be stupid enough to harm Evie, at least for now," Ezekiel replied.

"You must really care for Evie," Xander said, getting up from the bed where he had been sitting.

He walked up to Ezekiel and rested his hand on Ezekiel's shoulder.

"Zeke, Evie is the one for you, believe it or not but she would melt you, trust me when I say that. Leave it or take it," Xander told him and without waiting for a reply walked out of the room.
