Chapter 52 - Chapter 52

"Drive," Evie commanded the driver even without Ezekiel not been in the car with her.

The driver looked at her through the rear mirror, still unsure of what to do.

He was contemplating whether to obey her and take her without her husband. He needed a confirmation from her first before he does anything but what he got shocked him.

"Are deaf or something? Didn't you hear when I asked you to drive away, or do you want to lose your job?" Evie roared in anger.

"No ma'am, I am sorry, I just wanted to know if master was no longer following us, I mean…"

"Enough! Drive!" Evie yelled as she interrupted him.

Immediately, the driver roared the engine to life and drove away.

Evie looked at the beautiful yet busy city. Sometimes she just wished that she would live a normal life of any girl out there.

Life free of worries and pain, that was what she wanted.

Evie heaved deeply as she shut her eyes and rested her head on the head rest.

"We are home ma'am," the driver slightly tapped Evie who was so immersed in her thoughts.

"Oh, thanks," Evie flashed the driver a smile which got him confused.

What was wrong with her and her crazy mood swing? One minute she is angry and the next she is kind.

Evie halted in her tracks as she turned to see the driver still standing in his position staring at her.

"I am sorry for what happened earlier, I was freaking out then but I promise to try to manage my emotions," Evie said as she flashed him a smile.

The driver couldn't not bring himself to say anything when Evie apologized to him.

Normally, rich kids are spoilt and one thing they hate doing was apologising. They feel utterly embarrassed when they apologized to low life like them.

"Madam Evelynn," the driver called out causing Evie to halt in her steps and turn to face him.

"You are a good woman. A woman with a kind heart, please don't let anything or anyone change the real you," the driver said earning a sad smile from Evie.

After a while of holding his gaze, Evie asked, "what is your name?"

"I am Luke," he replied with a bow.

"Thank you Luke, I definitely heed to your advice. I hope to see you again," Evie told him before leaving.

Evie was surprised when she saw Eric sitting on the sofa with his legs crossed and his head down.

"Eric," Evie yelled happily as she advanced towards him.

"Evelynn dear," he uttered as he outstretched his hands for a hug.

The duo stayed in the position for quite a long while, Evie did not know that she was silently crying in his arms.

"I missed you Eric, I sincerely missed you," Evie told him in tears.

Eric wiped away her tears with his hand and caressed her back, trying to soothe her.

"I haven't heard from you lately," Evie told him.

"I quit my job," Eric said earning a gasp from Evie.

"Why?" She asked.

"Well, your father was slowly yet steadily turning into a monster after your mother divorced him. No matter the level of suffering I am in, I can never work for a monster, I love my life and I need to be alive for my family," Eric explained while Evie it nodded her head.

"You came for mom's burial," Evie stated though she did not see him there.

"Yes I did and it was quite funny when they won't let anyone near you nor your husband, you know low lives like us can never have a stand against you multi billionaires," Eric said with a chuckle.

"You are no low life, you are a family now Eric and I can't let you call yourself low life when we are related," Evie retorted calmly.

Eric laughed at her statement but Evie was not joking neither did she say anything funny.

"I agree we are family but there are limits for us, you know…" Eric trailed off seeing the figure he only had the opportunity to see on television.

Ezekiel Kai Owens.

His hands were in his pockets as he stared at his wife and then shifted his gaze to Eric.

Eric felt uncomfortable under his scrutinizing gaze but there was literally nothing he could do.

"I am…" Eric was about to say something when Evie interrupted him.

"Hi Kiel, you are home," Evie stood up and approached Ezekiel who was leaning on the door.

"Eric, meet my husband, Ezekiel," Evie said facing Eric and then she turned to face Ezekiel.

"Ezekiel darling, meet my friend and former worker of my parents Eric," Evie introduced them.

Ezekiel stiffened when she called him darling, he looked at her closely to see if it was exactly his wife.

Why was he liking the the way she called him darling?

'Stop overthinking Ezekiel,' he reprimanded himself before turning his attention to his wife.

"He came over to visit me today," Evie added.

Ezekiel didn't say anything, he just walked up to Eric and outstretched his hand for a handshake which Eric returned the gesture.

"Why don't you join us for lunch, my family would be coming over," Ezekiel said politely much to Evie's surprise.

Her husband was gradually changing or maybe she was getting to know more about this husband of hers.

"It would be my pleasure sir," Eric said with a smile.

"If you do not mind, I would like to have a word with my wife privately," Ezekiel told Eric who nodded his head in agreement.

Without looking at her, he left for the garden. Evie flashed a soft smile at Eric before following her husband.

"Why did you call me out?" Evie asked immediately she arrived the garden.

"You left without me," Ezekiel pointed out.

"I am sorry if I did, and please do not punish the innocent driver, I was the one who forced him to leave without you," Evie explained.

"Why?" Came Ezekiel's question. It was quite stunning that Ezekiel was asking her questions, come to think of it, this was their first time of having a conversation without fighting.

"Because of someone," Evie muttered.

"Laura Kings?" His question made Evie look at him in disbelief.

"How did you know?" Evie asked.

"I knew she was your grandmother for a long time now, even before we got married. I know her because my company had a business with hers and I usually do a background check on all my business partners that was how I found out that she was related to you," Ezekiel explained.

"You knew all these yet you didn't tell me?" Evie yelled.

"Must I tell you everything?" Ezekiel asked.

"We are married," Evie retorted.

"It seems like you have forgotten that this marriage happened because of our parents," Ezekiel reminded her.

Evie fell silent as she held Ezekiel's gaze. Somehow she felt hurt.

"I haven't forgotten," Evie muttered before she walked past him, heading to the main building.

Ezekiel watched her little figure walk past him. He noticed the hurt in her tone.

He had made known to her from the very beginning that he doesn't do love. He had never and would never love anyone not even her.

Just because he had been lenient with her doesn't mean he had changed. He can't change, that was the bitter truth.

But maybe, she was a little different from other women he had been with. He liked her innocence, her bravery, and sometimes her stubbornness.

He liked the way she challenged him and stand up to him, he remembered how madly possessive he was when he caught her in the club with another guy.

"Earth to Zeke," Paul's voice echoed loudly.

"What the hell where you thinking? Is it Evie?" Paul taunted as usual.

Zeke glared at him before turning to leave but what Paul said made his blood boil.

"You know if you eventually divorce Evelynn, I would like to marry her, since you don't know the value of what you have," Paul said with all seriousness.
