Chapter 53 - Chapter 53

"Stay away from my wife, Paul!" Ezekiel said with venom lacing in his voice.

Paul chuckled silently as he watched the way Ezekiel reacted.

He wanted to find out Evie's worth and value in his life and he proved that she really affected him.

If Evie had such worth in his life, then their plan would be a success. All they needed to do was to use her against him.

"I mean everything I said Paul, I am dead serious. I don't want to see you anywhere near Evelynn," Ezekiel warned him before he left for the main building.

Paul smiled immediately Ezekiel was out of sight, their plan was gradually working out.

"Phase two of my plan is complete," Paul said devilishly.

"Ezekiel better watch out because what is coming your way is bigger than you," Paul added loudly before adjusting his blazer and walking into the main building.

"Evie," Paul called out when he reached the living room. Evie turned her attention from Eric to him and then a smile appeared on her face.

"Paul, what a pleasant surprise," she said as she advanced towards him and engulfed him in a warm hug.

Paul stiffened at first but later got to relax while hugging Evie. She was so kind and as free as the air.

"I am so sorry for your loss," Paul consoled her, still hugging her.

"Thank you," Evie managed to mutter.

The footsteps of someone walking in made them break away from their embrace.

"It is time for lunch ma'am, it will be held at the garden," Alexa announced and Evie gestured to Eric and Paul to follow her.

Alexa led the way into the garden. Evie looked around, examining this part of the garden, she had never walked deep into the garden or rather she did not know that the garden was this deep.

The soft music playing in the background made Evie smile, she loved music.

There was a large table that could contain about seventy people placed at the center of the garden as trees were used as shades to prevent the harsh sun.

The chairs were decorated with flowers as flowers also filled the table. She liked the arrangement of the garden.

Some workers were still working on the seats as well as the delicious meals being brought in.

As usual Alexa was their director, giving out instructions to the workers.

"Beautiful as always," Juicy's voice echoed behind Evie.

Evie turned around only to see her friend with Xander. A smile appeared on Evie's face as she went for a hug.

After the duo broke away from their never ending embrace, they discussed a lot of things while the men also had their conversation.

"Eric, right?" Paul asked as he shoved his hands into his pocket.

Eric smiled beforehand replying, "yes."

"If I am not mistaking, you are one of us, right?" Xander was the one who asked.

Eric fell silent, holding Xander's gaze for quite a long while.

"Yes I am," came Eric's reply.

"I left our world to search for greener pastures and I must say that humans are really a genius for all that they have created," Eric added.

"Sometimes, I just wonder what would happen if the humans find out about us," Paul stated.

"They would definitely turn us into objects of experiments," Eric replied.

"Come to think of it, it would be hard for our kind to take down the humans due to their large number on earth," Xander chipped in.

"That is the more reason why critical discussions like this aren't meant to be said in public especially in a gathering where humans are in attendance," Ezekiel's deep voice was heard.

"There is a law for us to abide by, and if broken, it would cause war. This discussion should never be had again," Ezekiel ordered while everyone remained silent.

There were many people in attendance for the lunch and one of them happened to be Laura Kings.

There was a name tag on the chair identifying where you are meant to seat.

Everyone settled comfortably in their seats as the servants dished their food according to their choices.

"Why is Laura Kings staring at you?" Juicy who was beside Evie asked.

"You know her?" Evie asked.

"Who doesn't know Laura Kings? If you are into the business world then you must know Laura Kings. She is the CEO of the world's famous automobile company, she commands respect and low lives are nothing to her. She is the true definition of rude, arrogant and prideful. Well anyone who had achieved her height of success would be prideful," Juicy explained.

Wow! What a wonderful granddaughter she was~ note the heavy sarcasm. Everyone else knew Laura Kings except her.

"Compare her wealth with Ezekiel's?" Evie asked.

"Truth be told, Ezekiel is wealthier than her and he definitely has more influence than her," Juicy replied.

Her response seemed to have made Evie happy, at least she knows that she has more power than Laura Kings.

"But the Owens Enterprise is a family business that had been established years ago. Owens Enterprise should be around sixty years of age. The Kings Empire is just a seven year establishment. Laura Kings husband; late chairman Daniel Kings grandfather started the company and trust me when I say that their company is competing with Ezekiel's," Juicy explained.

"How did you know all of these?" Evie asked, surprised.

"Have you suddenly forgotten that I am a businesswoman? I have to know the history of every big company out there," Juicy replied proudly.

"So tell me, why do I feel like Laura Kings has something to do with you?" Juicy asked.

"She is my grandmother," Evie replied bluntly, causing Juicy's fork to drop on her plate causing a loud noise.

"Sorry, the hot food hurt my tongue," Juicy lied through her teeth.

Everyone resumed eating and did not ponder too much about it.

"Did I hear you say?" Juicy asked, her friend's life was getting complicated by the day.

"Table manners please!" Alice yelled at the ladies who were too engrossed in their conversation that they did not know that others were actually staring at them.

Also, they should not forget that there are important dignitaries and personalities in attendance. They should behave well.

"Sorry mother," Evie apologized and resumed eating.

"I have an important announcement to make," Laura Kings broke the silence that reigned in the garden.

"I lost my mother at the age of thirty and I know how it feels so I want my granddaughter to spend a month holiday with me, so she won't feel the loss of her mother," Laura added and all smiles on Evie's face vanished.

Who was this woman kidding, there was no way she would follow this woman anywhere.
