Chapter 33 - Chapter 33

"Hi," Paul waved his hand at Evie, the moment she opened the door.

"Hi," Evie threw him a knowing look.

"I am here to see Zeke," Paul said, his smile still on his face.

"If I may ask, who is Zeke?" Evie asked, looking confused.

"Zeke is your husband, it is the short form of his name Ezekiel," Paul explained elaborately.

"Oh, I see! He is not home," Evie stated.

"But can I come in?" He asked and Evie only nodded her head before ushering him in.

Silence reigned between the two in the sitting room until Paul broke the silence.

"How is Ezekiel treating you? I hope he isn't overbearing?" Paul suddenly asked.

Evie heaved remembering what transpired between her and Ezekiel the previous night.

"Everything is fine," she lied.

"I know that Zeke can be annoying sometimes but know that there is a valid reason for every one of his actions," Paul stated.

"He has some ugly past that haunts him now, things that have changed him and turned him like this. Believe me when I say that Zeke had once been a happy and jovial man but after what happened, he drastically changed into someone that was quite opposite of his true personality," Paul continued with a sigh,

"Kiel! Once a funny man, living his life to the fullest, until...…" Paul trailed off realizing that he was talking too much.

"Until what happened?" The curious Evie asked.

Paul exhaled deeply, feeling pity for Ezekiel

"Never mind," he flashed her a sad smile.

"Why are you keeping me in suspense? Let me know what happened," Evie demanded.

"Sorry Evie but your husband has to let you know besides I do not know what happened in detail, but I want you to help me… no, us change him back to who he was, we need you to teach him about love, that is why you are his wife," Paul said.

Evie shifted her gaze from Paul to the television, though she pretended to be watching tv, she kept on thinking about what Paul said.

"Can you just explain a little? So that I can have an idea," Evie pleaded.

Paul sighed as he scratched the back of his head. He stood up and headed for the garden with Evie trailing behind him.

"Evie I am sorry to disappoint you but I can't let you know a thing if your husband does not want to open up to you," Paul said.

"Maybe you can ask me any other question," Paul suggested to keep her mind occupied.

"Fine. What do you do for a living?" Evie asked.

"I work with Zeke in his company,"

"How are you related to Ezekiel and Xander?"

"Those two are my besties, while Xander and Ezekiel are cousins,"

The duo kept on discussing that they did not know that it was already evening.

"So are you single?" Evie asked out of nowhere.

Paul chuckled before replying, "no, why do you ask?"

"Well you are so homely and welcoming, and also fun to be with, I wish Ezekiel had a tiny bit of your personality," she hissed at the end of her statement.

"Zeke is just like that, just leave to coexist with him," Paul was still talking when the computerized gates opened with a vehicle driving in.

Footsteps were heard approaching the garden. In his mighty glory stood Ezekiel Owens at the entrance of the garden.

His gaze first landed on Paul who sat comfortably on the chair with a glass of wine in his hands, then Evie who was swirling the glass of wine in her hand.

"Zeke! I came to visit you but your beautiful wife here told me that you were not home, and come to think of it, you have such a funny wife," Paul said shaking his head.

Ezekiel did not say anything, he just turned and left.

"I guess I have to follow him, besides I came here to visit him," Paul flashed Evie a smile before leaving for the main building.

Paul followed Ezekiel into his room. He watched Ezekiel pull off his hoodie, and toss it on the bed.

The flames of fire tattoo on his back made Paul stiffen, he remembered that day that changed Ezekiel.

"Zeke..." Ezekiel cut him off.

"What were you doing in my house and why were you with my wife?" Ezekiel asked, facing him.

"Wait! Can't I visit my bestie again?" Paul asked faking his sadness.

"You haven't answered my question, Paul" Zeke said warningly.

"Fine, I came to visit you…" Ezekiel cut him off again.

"Save yourself that bullshit of an excuse, you know where to find me," Zeke stated, his eyes warning him to say the truth.

"Fine I agree, I came to meet your wife," Paul told him flatly.

"Why?" Zeke asked.

"Just want to know her," Paul shrugged at the end of his statement.

"Next time you have to inform me before you pay my wife a visit," Ezekiel commanded.

"Why do I get a feeling that you are being possessive?" Paul asked tauntingly, a smirk on his face.

Ezekiel did not bother to reply, besides Paul had always been playful so there was no need to reply to him.

"I guess I have to leave now, bye Zeke," Paul said before engulfing him into a warm hug, though Ezekiel did not return the gesture he still hugged him tightly.

Paul left but not without biding Evie goodbye. He breathed heavily as he got into his car.

"Phase one of my plans is complete," Paul said with a smile.

After Paul left, Evie freshened up, she came downstairs to eat.

Ezekiel was already seated on the dining chair, his gaze fixed on his phone.

Instantly, she remembered what happened between them and she felt cold chills run down her spine.

She silently sat on the chair and began to eat quietly, she had no plans of talking to him.

"What were you doing with Paul?" Came Ezekiel's questions.

"Just discussing with him" Evie answered honestly.

"Before you hang out with him, you have to inform me," it was more of a command than a plea.

"I should inform you?" Evie scoffed "you go about hanging out with any woman of your choice and you expect me to inform you whenever I want to hang out with Paul?" Evie asked angrily.

"I have lost my appetite" she added as she stood up from her seat and left the dining room abruptly.
