Evie was enjoying tormenting her father but she should have thought about what she was about to say before speaking.
Come to think of it, the way she said it made it seem like she was about to have kids with Ezekiel.
Evie ignored Alice's question but Alice being Alice, she kept on pestering.
"So tell me, when am I expecting kids running around in this house, or do you like the house to be so boring?" Alice asked.
Evie gulped. She looked over at Ezekiel who seemed less bothered, he acted like this matter was none of his concern.
"We are taking our time," Evie had to say something to ease the tension.
"For how long? You know that there is no need for using protection when having sex," Alice added while Evie turned red like tomatoes.
"Alice, I think you need to stop prying into someone's business, at their own will, they will have kids," Alaska had to save Evie from his wife's embarrassing questions.
Alice kept mute but not for long, she was the curious type and she could not stay without talking.
"So Evie's friend, may I know your name?" She asked while her husband rolled his eyes, he glared at her though she wasn't bothered.
"Juicy"
"When did you become Evie's friend?" She asked.
"Back then in college," Evie was the one who replied. Both Juicy and Evie glanced at each other and smiled.
"Wow, that is so heartwarming," Alice said referring to the smiles that the duo exchanged.
"How did you guys meet?" She asked again.
"Well, let us say she helped me," Evie's response made Sonia look at her, she was sure that he daughter had everything she wanted during high school and college.
"Back then in college, Evie was a quiet girl who loved music so much that she was even the head of the school choir. Evie was too quiet and gentle for my liking and she was prone to bullies. You know she had everything a guy could ask for; the brain, the beauty and the money so you can say that the female bullies were envious of her. Thanks to her quietness and gentleness, made it easy for them to bully her. On this fateful day, she was bullied right in front of me and I just couldn't take it, I had to fight for her and suddenly we became friends. It was more of a responsibility for me to protect her back then in college. In the eyes of the teachers, she was a good and quiet student while I was the troublesome and rebellious yet brainy student," Juicy narrated.
"Thank you for protecting her," Alice appreciated with a smile.
"That explains why the duo are so close," Sonia chipped in, she was still baffled that her daughter passed through all this in college yet she did not complain to her.
"Remember that day that you fought Nana because she slapped me," the ladies chuckled remembering that event.
"And how I went in suspension for a whole week for fighting, it is quite funny now that I remember everything. How time flies!" Juicy said with a broad smile on her face.
Alice kept on asking questions upon questions till everyone finished eating.
Juicy and Paul were the first to leave before Evie's parents. Her father was still upset due to what happened during the family dinner so he did not talk to her.
Her mother was the one who hugged her and bid her goodbye before they left.
"Evie, I hope Ezekiel is not troubling you that much?" Alice asked as they made their way to the living room
"Not really, it is just that he rarely talks," Evie replied.
"Yes, he does not talk that much but just try to understand him, he might be horny and authoritative but he has a reason for every he does," Alice's expression became serious and Evie knew that Alice was about to share something bothering her.
"Ever since that day, I lost my sons, I lost Ezekiel and Elijah. I lost Elijah physically while I lost Ezekiel, socially, emotionally and even mentally. It was hard for me, it is still hard for me. Ezekiel is going through a lot of pains, and regrets. The point is that I want him to forgive himself, I want him to realize that dwelling in the past would never allow him to view the beauty of life, I need you to help in redeeming him," Alice looked at her pleadingly.
"Can you explain in detail what happened and why do I feel like Ezekiel had an ugly past?" Evie asked.
"I wished it is something that I can explain but I can't, it is something very sacred," Alice walked past her, staring at the wall.
"I am doing everything to redeem my son" Alice heaved deeply as she sighed, she then turned to view Evie.
"Please Evie help me" Alice cupped Evie's face with her palms.
"I will!" Evie agreed, she suddenly became interested in redeeming Ezekiel.
********************************
Sonia could tell from her husband's tightened grip on the steering wheel that he was angry, angry was an understatement, he was mad!
She kept shut as she prayed silently for them to arrive safely at home, she did not bother talking to him because she didn't want him to transfer his aggression to her.
Her husband had anger issues and she usually tries to avoid him when he is angry.
Finally, they got home safe and sound, she heaved in relief as sue entered inside.
"It is all your fault!" Richard yelled. Sonia halted in her tracks, as she turned to look at him.
"What do you mean?" She asked trying to act oblivious.
"Drop the pretence woman! What is the point of getting her married to Ezekiel if the companies are not merged? All my years of hard work are just thrown away in a twinkle of an eye?!" He fired.
"She made it clear that she would appoint someone to be the acting CEO, and the person reports to her everything that happens in the company," Sonia tried to make him reason with her.
"Was that what I asked for? Was that why I got her married to Ezekiel?" Richard yelled as he approached his wife dangerously.
"Answer me!" He yelled as he slapped her across her face.
Tears filled Sonia's eyes as she watched her husband leave, he hit her! Well this wasn't the first time such a thing was happening.
She had been covering up all these years, enduring all the pain, yet whatever that goes wrong is her fault
For how long would she continue to endure this man? Twenty-six good years of her being married to this man, yet he had never for one day appreciated her.
She stood up from the ground and wiped her tears away.
Enough is enough!
She can't take it anymore!
