Adeline POV
It was strange having to leave my mother’s bedside at the hospital to get ready for a birthday party. I felt as though my priorities were skewed beyond repair. But both the twins and my mother insisted that I go.
“You’ve been at my bedside almost every night, Addie,” she said with a weak smile, trying her best to look strong. “You deserve a night off.”
“I’ve been having nights off for the past few months that I’ve been a student at Canary,” I said to her. “I should have been there for you the moment you fell ill.”
“And miss out on your life? No, Addie that would torture me more that whatever this sickness is,” she insisted. “You, Emily, Allen, your father…You all are my life and all I want is to see you grow and be happy. No go and plan the party before I call security on you.”
I knew my mother well enough to know that she was not bluffing about calling security and having me kicked out.
