Zale’s POV
The sound of my suitcase wheels dragging along the cement driveway is the only thing filling the air between Leona and me. I have been eager to get home from the two-day trip because of the detour from the original with Adeline. I need to get everything back ready for the ritual coming up. I’m desperate for this plan to work.
The front door swings open to reveal Johnny. He leans his right shoulder against the doorframe and watches the two of us approach. I catch a glimpse of a smirk on his lips, so I roll my eyes in response. He’s such a tosser.
“I’m glad the two of you returned safely,” Johnny said as we drag our suitcases up the three steps to the veranda.
“Where is everyone?” I ask, looking past him into the house.
