Chereads / In A Game As A Blood Mage / Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

Alex is on the front door of his house, with a backpack on, while saying goodbye to his mother.

"Are you sure you have everything ready. Did you also take extra clothes, did you pack the blanket, do you need some food for the road." Says Gona worriedly...

Alex just smiles at her.

"No need to worry mother. I got everything I will need. And like always, you are worrying too much. Maybe I am not suited to become neither a soldier or a magician." Says Alex while smiling, to reassure her that everything is okay.

He waves at her while he starts walking away.

Gona just sighs at this... She can't help but be worried about him. She has raised him ever since he was a kid. Alex is the most important thing in the world for her.

Of course only after Goddess Ariel. But gods don't count. She truly wished that he would be able to go to the Holy Union. They will definitely treat him good. Not like some Magic school where the death rate of students is over 50%, plus she had heard the horrific stories from it. But Alex was very insistent that he wanted to go, so she gave in to his demands.

Though she doesn't have hopes for Alex to become a Magician after all his biological parents are both normal people. His father was a lumberjack that got killed by goblins before Alex was born and his mother worked on the farm and died of childbirth. She just hopes that Alex won't be sad when he hears the bad news.

She should be there comforting her son when he fails... but Goddess Ariels teachings say that I need to help those in need. So I will stay here and help the lumberjacks or hunters that will inevitably be hurt by goblins... though lately there seem to be less goblins sighted in the forest. That is truly weird, but she is sure that this is all thanks to Goddess Ariel, she doesn't want the people in this village to suffer anymore.

....

After Alex arrives just outside of the village, he notices that it is cold and the sun hasn't even risen yet. But after waiting for a while he sees three carriages with some dinosaur like creatures dragging them.

'They are Lizard Horses... they look nothing like horses and more like a mini t-rex at the size of a horse.' -Thinks Alex, he is a little annoyed, from them having him wait in the cold. This child body that he currently has is very fragile so he doesn't want to hurt it in any way.

..

Then as they arrive at Alex's location... a knight in full armour is up on the carriage next to a normal looking driver with a cowboy hat on. The knight turns to look at Alex, his helmet shining like it is made of pure silver, and the holes on the helmet where the knight uses to see from, the only thing that Alex can see from them is that they look like two holes made out of darkness.

"Are you Alex of the Yellow Grass Village." Says the knight in his voice.

Alex looks at his eyes and answers him calmly with a resounding. "Yes."

The knight just nods at this and replies with a simple… "Get in."

Alex does so. When he got inside the carriage he saw eight other children, six girls and two boys.

They are all the same age as him and some of them seem tired.

'Probably they were from a village further away so they had to sleep in the carriages some for a couple of days. For a six year old kid that is kind

of hard to do.' Thinks Alex, feeling lucky that he at least didn't have to travel for so long as some of the kids seem to have.

The kids all seemed tired except for some polite greetings and introductions. They don't communicate much more. Some even go to sleep while sitting…

Then as the carriage picks up some speed.

'Damn this travelling method sucks.' Alex can't help but think back on his life where even though most of the time over seated even the buses were nicer than this...

..

Soon he sees the River where he got the Fire Boar Egg he thinks back on the time that he got Pork from this. Alex can't wait until he can find some hidden items that haven't been discovered yet.

The carriages go on the bridge and pass the river.

....

It took seven hours to reach Gungai City, and as soon as he saw the giant walls with towers surrounding the city Alex couldn't help but be excited… he knew this city like the back of his hand.

The city is big and it has around 500.000 as a population. That is a lot for a medieval level city. When they arrive at the gate there is a long line but their carriages pass them all, and the guards as soon as they see the carriage they let them pass. Only someone mentally challenged would try to question Magic Academy's authority. After all a king and his whole family were killed just because one night the king drunkenly said something stupid, what would happen, to them who were normal people… and that they didn't want to find out. So they easily let the carriage enter the city.

After Alex and the others entered the city they immediately started gazing from the window of their carriages. The people were mingling around with each other. Endless ins and stalls. Even the other tired kids are amazed by the sights of this city, it seems that they became revitalised as if they weren't even tired to begin. They even start excitedly talking between each other but Alex just stayed there quietly. After all… he is already reviewing his plans that he has thought off.

...

Gungai City truly has everything. Buildings that have different shops from potion and armor shops… to bird poop shops. But the most amazing structure is the castle in the middle of the city where the mayor lives.

Alex can't help but feel a sense of nostalgia... this used to be one of the cities where he earned a LOT of money... he used to have a lot of connections from the mayor which is a partner with the Merchant Guild. Also he even had a personal secret base in here... it was where the Thieves Guild used to be…

'Well I guess they are still here now…' Thinks Alex while planning to take over HIS base.

The base had an underground entrance that can only be accessed by the sewer system.

This City is truly a treasure trove for Alex... from hidden passages to different treasures... he knows every knot and cranny of this place. Even better than most residents who have lived here their whole lives.

....

After some time the horses finally stop. Then as Alex and the other children get out they can see a cleaned and well maintained mansion in front of them.

All of the other carriages also drop the kids in here. Alex can finally see how many other kids there were and it seems like they were twenty seven kids all together. Though this was only one batch of them, there are thousands of children every year who attempt this, but usually 99% of them fail.

"This way." Says one of the knights wearing full armor.

Since they are from the Magic Academy, Alex would bet his pants that the armor is enchanted.

Alex together with the other kids followed the knights. The carriage drivers are still in the carriages. They are thinking how much gold they will get after this job is over. After all... the Magic Academy is known to be very generous.

As soon as the gates are open two rows of young beautiful maids are there to greet us.

"""Welcome.""" Say the maids together, all of them talking in unison.

Some kids blush at this, embarrassed at the attention they are getting.

'Well I don't really blame them... some of them are very beautiful, they could be models if they were in my last world.' Thought Alex as he analysed the different maids, his gamer instincts kicked in, trying to see if any of them is some hidden or important character. Sadly he couldn't determine anything with just a first look, since he didn't have the appraise skill. So he just looked towards the mansion, contemplating how good it would be to have one of these buildings for himself.

When the Knight sees the children's reactions, he doesn't think anything of it, after all this isn't the first batch of children he has escorted. So he just ushers them to follow him. And they do so.

When Alex and the others enter the big mansion they see other children inside.

They are all the same age as Alex. They seemed to be chatting between each other and generally having fun. As soon as they see the knights they immediately stop what they were doing, and they bow down. After all, though these knights were the bottom rung of the Magic Academy Personnel, they still demanded a lot of respect.

Inside the mansion there were a lot of different paintings, depicting magicians and knights fighting different monsters. The paintings also seemed to be moving, and it reminded Alex of TV's in his first life. These paintings all had an illusion spell cast on them, to make them seem like the depicted event was really happening.

But what caught Alex's attention was the things in the middle of the hall, there were two yellow spheres and one green in an altar like set, with pillars coming up to the average adult's knees holding the spheres inside of them.

The Knights stop walking and order the kids to do the same and pay attention to them, because they will be explaining this only once. They go towards the altars as the kids look at the knights intently.

When the three knights saw this, they nodded and started explaining.

"The yellow spheres are used to test your magical talent. And the green one detects and awakens detects your warrior talent. If you are unsuccessful in the Magician department but successful in the Warrior department you could still come to Magic City. There is the Warriors Guild there that will teach you the ways of a knight. Who knows someday you might even make a general of your own country. For mages you need to get a number from 1-10 to appear in the sphere to pass. For Warriors you need to make your sphere shine at least a little to show that you have strong Ki."

Then as the kids that came in the same carriages as Alex started getting ready to put their hands in the spheres by wiping them on their clothes to clean them… thinking that might make their chances higher… which it won't, but they don't know that.

The other kids who were already there, they were the ones from the other sides of the kingdom so they came here earlier than them and are the ones who got accepted. They are just looking at the newcomers.

"Abot..." Then the Knights start calling names. Alex just waited there until he heard his name being called.

"Alex." As soon as he heard this he went up there and touched the sphere as soon as he did so… a notification appeared in front of him.

[NEW CLASS AVAILABLE]

[Mage]

Y/N

As soon as Alex sees this he immediately pressed [Yes].

[YOU GOT A NEW CLASS]

He looked at the sphere and the number 2 appeared.

"You pass... Next... Bumi." Says the Knight.

Alex just goes to the side that has passed the exam like him. They are talking excitedly about something. But Alex doesn't pay attention to their useless banter.

'Status.' Alex uses a little concentration to summon his stats page.

Alex sees his stats and a look of excitement appears on his face. Though no one pays attention to him, since they thought that he was simply just like the other excited kids.

'I better wait for some time before I put all of my Exp in something.' Contemplates Alex, as he reviews his plans and tries to see if there is any better way, on where to put his EXP other than the one he has already figured out.

....

After some time after they were all done testing. Some didn't have talents as any class so they went back to the carriages to be sent back home. Well even though a lot of the kids during this age group in the kingdom apply, only a handful of them get accepted out of each batch.

As some kids are crying as they are escorted outside by the maids.

Another knight comes out from the building and he has a tall stack of books on his hands. But somehow he seems to be able to easily equilibrise them for none of them seem to be falling.

He comes towards the handful of children who passed from Alex's group and says.

"The blue books are for mana meditation techniques and some basic knowledge that a mage needs to have. As for the brown books they are for KI cultivation methods. Get one of them and go to your rooms to study. You have one month before the air ships come to take us to Magic City." Says the knight as he then mentioned towards the books. "You can take as many as you want, if you damage or lose your book, just come and take from this stack again, this applies for all of you here."

Alex is first to go and take his book, and then he goes back to his group. After that, one of his knights just mentioned forward and told Alex. "Come get your key and you can go to your room. If you feel hungry, just ask someone here and they will guide you towards the kitchens, in there you can get whatever you want to eat."

Alex nodded in appreciation, even though he already knew this. There was no need to not be polite. Plus this might give me some advantage, after all currently the only people overlooking the kids are the knights, so I better not be on their bad side.

After Alex grabbed the book, he immediately went to his designated room.

Room number 403. When he went inside it looked like a normal room with a shelf for books. A wardrobe for clothes and a desk to study. Alex put his bag on the desk and lied on the clean looking bed.

As soon as he sat down he opened his Status Page.
