Chapter 33 - Mud Fight!

Mona's POV

---------------

Present day…

With a naughty smile, Mona snickered.

With a "THWOSH", Mona flung a clump of mud.

The ball of slosh came hurling down and "THWACK", hit her cousin right on its head.

"Hey!"

Trickles of thick, muddy water dribbled over its head and matted the white fur, turning it into a poop brown color, like the capuchin was munching down mouthfuls of poop.

But Mona didn't feel bad. Oooh, she loved it!

Wheezing between breaths, Mona laughed and hollered. Pointing to her cousin, she exclaimed, "That color looks amazing on you! Really fits you as an animal!"

A round of laughing echoed in the rainforest. Screeches, shrieks, a couple of whistles too.

Clenching its teeth, the capuchin leaped towards Mona with a war cry.

The troop of capuchins began their daily banters and fights.

Swinging away with all her other cousins, Mona howled, swinging up and down throughout the thickets. Bobbing up and down, changing between the emergent and canopy layers of the rainforest (the top two), the group of capuchins created havoc along the way.

Those capuchins were worth hundreds of noise complaints!

"Ha, try and catch me now Molly!"

"I'LL GET YOU!" Molly cried. She grabbed a pliant branch and swung like Tarzan, extending her paw to snatch another branch. She leapt into the air with great speed, bouncing between the trees, her mind focused on revenge.

But Mona wasn't any worse than Molly.

Mona slithered through the leaves, seemingly swimming through the branches. There seemed to be no obstacles in front of her at the speed she went.

"Haha, try and catch me Molly. Oh, I forgot, you can't!"

"Argh!"

A chorus of snickers and chattering followed Mona and Molly.

"Hey, do you think Molly will catch up to Mona?"

"Maybe."

"Ha, what are you guys even talking about. Molly? In her dreams!"

"Hey, be nice!"

"Why don't you stop talking? Don't forget that time Molly pranked you to steal your food."

"Wasn't that Mane?"

"I like trees."

"..."

---------------

All the capuchins raced and played to their heart's content. The bright morning started to dim to darkness.

"Uhm, hic-"

Molly sat there on the tree, huffing and puffing. Tears ran through her brown face as she whimpered pitifully.

The capuchins crowded over her. They all clamored to say something all at the same time.

"Hey Molly, don't cry!"

"Yeah, it was a prank, don't take it to heart."

"Besides, if it's anyone's fault, it is Mane's fault."

"WHO SAID THAT?!" Mane shouted. No answer.

"Everyone, skooch back," Mona said, pushing her cousins out of the way.

"What are you here for? Trying to pick on me again?" Molly pouted.

"Well, you should blame yourself for being such an easy target!"

"YOU!"

"Whatever! I, Mona, am the winner!!!" Mona gloated, patting her chest with a proud smile.

Molly's eyes started to water again.

Mona noticed Molly's little blinking eyes threatening to burst out in tears.

With an uncomfortable cough, Mona stopped patting her chest and carefully looked side to side.

"Hey Molly, stop crying like a baby! We capuchins don't cry, cause we're the strongest in the rainforest. I may have won you, but who knows, you might get a stroke of luck next time and win."

"..." Molly wiped her eyes viciously.

"And, um- I won't throw mud at you again!"

"...Really?"

"Yeah, totally…"

"I knew it! You don't mean that at all. Mona, you're such meanie!" Molly angrily pointed at Mona, her cheeks bulged in anger.

And with that, climbed down the tree, constantly touching her muddy face, peering to find a stream to clean her face.

"Humph!" Mona huffed.

-Trying to make you feel better, silly! Look at you, dull as ever!-

"Hey everyone, was I the winner or not?"

The rowdy audience bursted into noise.

"I think so."

"No, you're a bully."

"Nah, this was funny!"

"Absolutely!"

"I want to pee."

"Who said that?"

"Mane did."

"I DID NOT!"

"Look!" One of the capuchins shouted, pointing up.

But no one cared, or really, no one heard.

Wide eyes building out of its head, the only capuchin saw the disaster arriving.

With utter shock and disbelief, the capuchin froze on the spot, its eyes following the thing crashing down.

Down.

Down.

Down.

"PLOP!"

An ensemble of gasps filled the air. What followed was a frightening silence.

Mona slowly blinked.

She felt something steaming on her head.

She raised her paw and touched the thing on her head.

Soft, squishy, stinky?

She looked at her hand.

It was…

"HAHAHA! It's POOP!" Molly hollered. She came back at the right time. At a perfect time.

A little too perfect.
