Chapter 24 - Primal Instincts

Narrator's POV

There's an instinct in all of us.

Our primal instinct is what helps animals survive in precarious situations.

Drilled and branded into the brain, animals don't simply activate the sixth sense, survival instinct, on a whim.

They erupt out at the right time, when Death looms right behind, its cold breath sends shivers up the spine.

Hair rising, goosebumps, waves of nauseous, chills, trembling, dry mouth…

The sixth sense activates to protect us, protect us from danger, the strong.

In response to the strong, what would you do?

Stand tall and fight till bruises and blood, to flesh and bones?

Or freeze on the spot, unable to move an inch as you internally scream to do anything else besides staying frozen on the spot?

Perhaps flee, the adrenaline pumping the body as the wind whooshes past you as the legs don't ever feel tired?

Maybe the brain numbs up, thoughts flee the brain like your courage, leaving the mind blank?

Or hide, cowering as your body shakes uncontrollably, squeezing your eyes shut till the blackness fills your eyes, your mind?

Do you rise to the occasion, or crouch to the depths?

No action is wrong, after all, it's to survive, no?

Just as the wind blows quickly, so too does our soul get whisked away by Death's scythe.

So, what is your choice?
