Sal's POV
---------------
-I see her.-
-But…-
With Sal's small beady eyes gazing toward Rosa, his body shivered.
-I should shout to her, let her know where I am!-
But his mouth dried up just as he wanted to call out to her.
-I need to let Rosa know!-
But his body froze up, more solid than any stone from any mountain.
Sal gazed towards Rosa.
With the night already out, the shadows casted by the layered leaves shrouded Sal in darkness.
Rosa, sat atop, high up on the tree branch, the silvery glow of the moon shone behind her, the soft luminance mixed with the dark tone of the night wrapped around her body. She shined, her green skin seemed deep like smooth jade, sparkle like cut emerald.
There she was, perched above.
Her ruby eyes darted rapidly.
With so much concern…
And…
-Why can't I call out to her!?"
Only to clutch the tree pitifully, Sal couldn't muster a bit of his strength to speak, much less move.
Like a small, weak animal.
"Sal!" Rosa called out, jumping around the trees frantically.
-Rosa, I'm here!- Sal wanted to say, but not a squeak escaped.
Sal helplessly saw Rosa leap from one tree to another, calling out his name, getting farther and farther away, a bright gem shrinking and dimming…
And she was gone.
-And here I am.-
"Plop."
"Drop."
"Huh?"
Confused, Sal looked down.
His gray and brown fur, a little green from living in the rainforest so long, had a couple wet patches.
Trembling, his hand reached to touch his face.
From his small beady eyes, tears dribbled out of the corner of his eye, sliding down and wetting his face.
-Am I…crying?-
"Plop."
"Drop."
"Plop…splat…plop…drop."
More and more tears rolled down his face, yet the more and more tears coming out, the more confused Sal felt.
-Why am I crying?-
-I'm just hiding like I usually do when there's danger.-
-When predators are around, I hide.-
-Yet, why am I crying? Aren't I just trying to live?-
-So why…-
Churning inside of his stomach, Sal felt more tangled than creeping vines. He felt sad, angry, confused, and…
The familiar feeling of emptiness made Sal feel hollow. The same emptiness that Sal didn't feel for such a seemingly long yet also short amount of time.
"I-" Hiding his hiccups between his breaths, his body heaved up and down heavily.
"Why-"
"Sal!"
With a sudden shout, Sal jerked his head.
And there he saw…
Such a small creature, with little to no muscle or sharp teeth, yet that creature stood so tall, so big. With no fear in her blood red eyes, she was so brave and courageous.
While Sal shrunk in the darkness.
-I need to grab her attention, but if I risk to alert where the predator I am…-
-Forget it!-
With all the strength he had, from the bottom of his lungs, inhaling deeply…
"Rosa!" A small squeak escaped his mouth, his voice cracking like a shrill whistle calling from a distance.
But it was enough sound to catch Rosa's attention.
"Sal?"
"There you are!"
