"Oh, I see, if I may ask, what did you go there for? Cause I heard it's a death sentence if you go see the vice president without being called. This corporation has so many protocols." Sylvia said.
"How come I'm just knowing about it today? Thank God Cat was kind enough to let me know. If not, I would have been fired." Zain complained.
"That's because you never mingle with anyone. You always stick to yourself, and it's not good." Sylvia scolded
"Oh, I guess that's the problem," Zain said.
"I just hope you didn't get into any trouble?" she asked with concern. She wouldn't want him being laid off, especially now that they were just getting to know each other. And she was able to get close to him like this.
"No, I didn't, and even if I did, it would be worth it." Zain said as his mind drifted to Jane, and he smiled at the thought of her. Sylvia felt a bit curious. What could it be that would make him not even mind losing his job over it?
"And what's that if I may ask, not like I'm trying to pry or be nosy, I'm just curious to know what you wouldn't mind losing your job over. Not everyone is lucky to finish college at a very young age and still get a job at one of the most sought after company in the county. I was just wondering, you know." She said nonchalantly. She tried her best not to sound curious, even though she was dying to know.
"It's a who, not a what. Zain replied, smiling to his eyes, anytime he thinks or talks about Jane. He just couldn't help but be happy, and it always brings smiles to his face.
"What did you say?" Sylvia asked.' Did I just hear him say it's a who? ' she questioned herself.
"I said it's a who, I'm taking that risk for someone special." Zain said, still smiling.
"Your sibling?" Sylvia asked. She couldn't bring herself to think it was a girl. Zain didn't look like someone who had a girlfriend. Even if he was going to have a girlfriend, that person should be here.
"No, not my sibling. My sister is doing well she doesn't need a job. She just had a baby in fact." Zain replied
"Oh, you are trying to help the person get a job?" Sylvia asked.
"Well, yes," Zain replied.
"You should have just checked for any vacancy around and see if it's something she can fit into. Instead of going all the way to see the vice president and risking your head."
"Well, I checked, but there was no vacancy, and she really needs the job urgently." Zain interjected.
"Oh, I see, by the way, who is the person, your girlfriend?" Sylvia asked. She didn't know why she had asked that question. She suddenly regretted it, but she wanted to know. She swallowed the lump in her throat as she awaited his response.
"No, she's not my girlfriend," Zain replied to her
Sylvia finally let go of the breath she didn't know she had been holding. But she didn't expect what came next.
"But she will soon be, I'm going to make her mine very soon. That's why I am trying to get her this job, because it's going to mean a lot to her. And I can gain her heart that way, I really love her, and I can't stop thinking about her. I want to make her happy, and this is just the first step. That's why I didn't mind taking that risk." He explained to her.
Sylvia suddenly felt suffocated. She felt like the life out of her was all taken away in an instant. Her head was spinning. She felt dizzy, and her stomach was twisting. She suddenly stood up and dashed out of the cafeteria.
She badly wants to cry, and she can't afford for Zain to see her that way. She couldn't believe what she had just heard, the guy she had been crushing on. In fact, she was in love with him and is in love with someone else.
How is she supposed to live with this? She had never liked anyone before. She had dated some guys back in high school and college, but they were just flings. She never really liked them, at least not this much.
She made it to the bathroom right on time before slumping on the floor. The tears she had been keeping at bay just wouldn't stop coming. It was like a volcano erupted. She cried till she felt weak and numb. No one told her it usually hurt this much. If not, she would not have dared to love him this much.
She cried for almost an hour, and she stood up and wiped her tears. She looked at herself in the mirror, and she felt the urge to cry even more. She looked really pitiful right now. If anyone saw her now, they would think her husband just died, and she had been mourning for days.
Speaking of anyone seeing her, her mind drifted back to Zain. She can't allow him or anyone else to matter see her like this. It would raise so many suspicions and questions she's not willing and ready to answer.
I needed to go home immediately, she thought to herself. But her bag was not here with her, she thought again. There's no way she was going back to the office looking like this.
"How in the world am I going to get my bag out of there?" she muttered to herself. She became so confused. She didn't know what to do anymore, she really needed her bag, her house key was in her bag.
