Chapter 5 - A Rat Can’t Get Support

[Congratulations, you have killed a slime!]

[Skills: Burrow and Eagle Eye have all leveled up!]

… No level up?

The rat, extremely disappointed by this development, sat around in depression for two minutes. It then got up and went to eat the rest of the slime. The slime had no flavor, but was an excellent source of water and had a fun texture. After gobbling up the rest of the slime, the rat looked over its [Status].

The rat was surprised to see the increase in both Hp and St. these were lower before so what happened. The rat already knew of the passive regeneration rate of Hp and St, but the rate at which it regenerated was lower than the amount it had received. Then it remembered eating the slime. Could the act of eating be a way to regenerate lost Hp and St? There was only one way to find out!

The rat set off once more in search of prey. During the search, it regained all of its lost Hp and St. It finally came across a Small Spider. It did the usual of sneaking up and using [Vitality Check] when within a 1 meter distance. Its previous hypothesis was confirmed correct after seeing it could understand the anatomy of the Small Spider to an extent. The rat still couldn't fully understand the monster's biology, but knew enough for it to be useful. The rat did the usual leaping at the spider, but this time remembering the boosted speed. It instead of latching on with [Bite] used [Scratch] in unison with [Shadow Strength] and [Body Strengthening] to slice off the spider's legs. This worked beautifully and the rat toppled over, unable to balance with only its left legs. The rat calmly walked up and used the strategy learned from fighting the slime and dug through the spider. It avoided the venom sack, and tore the spider up. A flawless victory.

The rat ignored this surprisingly different status, and then threw itself at the wall to lose health.

[You have suffered blunt damage -6 Hp]

Then the rat walked up and devoured the rest of the spider, making sure to leave that damn venom alone. Looking back at its status and seeing its health was back at full, the rat was satisfied and began to look over it. The monster rat made note of two things: all of the rat's stats have risen by 1 and Mp only rose by 2. The rat noticed simply how slowly its Mp rose, and did another experiment. It put one point into Int and looked back at its Mp. It rose by 1. From this it deduced Mp rose by 1 per 1 in Int, and 1 per level. Then it looked back at its other stats: Hp and St. Both have risen abnormally. Based from the past level up, each rose by 10 per level, but this time they each got additional points. Thinking about how the both of them are physical, it looked back at its physical stats: Str, Agi, Dex, and Con. Judging by the amount risen in St, each point in the physical stats have increased St by 1. One of these however, is responsible for Hp. It really had no way to determine which was which, so it added 1 point into each stat. Finally, when it had increased Con, it saw both St and Hp rise by 1. The rat proceeded to add the rest into luck.

The rat looked over to its skills. It could finally get [Support Magic]! The Mp requirement was only 5 Mp, and it had 8! Now, time to get it!

[Unable to purchase skill: Support Magic]

[Reason: lack of Sp]

[Support Magic]

[Requirements: 5 Mp or more]

[The use of magic to buff either an ally or oneself.]

[Cost: 3 Sp]

… FUCK! After all the effort added into it, I still can't get it!

The rat thought over this and how unfair it had felt, but it calmed down after a while and looked back at the screens. It then thought that maybe not using its Sp now, and using it in the future might be better. It directed its attention away from the skills, and back to its status.

Done!

[Finalizing Process]

The rat looks over this screen until it disappears. Once it did it looked over its body with [Vitality Check], and with the increase of a level it was able to fully understand its own body. It also became more aware of the increasingly tight muscles. They had become slightly bigger but also denser. This must have been the effect of raising Str but also from [Shadow Strength]. Its other physical abilities have also risen: it became slightly bigger with tougher skin, it somehow appeared to be slim and also flexible, and its hand… paw… things have become easier to move with a lot more freedom. Its brain also appeared to have grown which increased its ability to absorb knowledge.

The rat then looked forward, deeper into the tunnel and decided it was time to hunt. This was not because it was hungry, but instead to increase its level so it may finally get that damned [Support Magic].
