Chapter 7 - A Rat Being a Mole

[Due to Mp levels reaching 10, you have gained skill: Mana Detection.]

[Mana Detection]

[Detect Mana around you]

… Neat! If other monsters also gained Mp through level ups not only could it detect them in an area, but also see how strong they were through the amount of Mp they had. This was a huge bonus. Very, very neat.

The rat refocused its attention to reality, all of its teeth had been regrown and its leg went back to normal. There was blood and gore splattered all over the walls of the tunnel from the monsters' vicious battle. The rat used [Vitality Check] on its body; its understanding of its body hadn't improved because it was already at the max at the previous level. The rat noticed it had gotten even stronger from the increase in level for [Shadow Strength]. Now it was time to test out one of its new skills, [Support Magic]. Now… how would one use it?

[Support Magic]

[The use of magic to buff either an ally or oneself.]

[Spell list:]

[Strength Enhance]

[Duration: 1 minute]

[Effect: Strengthens the target]

[Cost: 5 Mp]

… Okay, but how?

[Magic]

[One must have an image of the effect of the magic in their mind, they would then have to say it out loud.]

… Okay then! The rat proceeded to imagine how [Strength Enhance] would grow and then compact its muscles. Then it opened its mouth and made an odd combination of noises.

"Kregth Enhanheec"

It worked. The intent of the user is more important than the actual words. If it relied solely on the chant then those who spoke another language or had an accent would be screwed. The rat felt its muscles suddenly grow and compress down. The rat then tried moving. It sprinted around at high speeds. The rat stopped before it crashed and had an idea. What would happen if it used [Body Strengthening] at the same time. It quickly activated and started sprinting. The rate at which it moved was alarming. No one between the ranks of copper and black iron could make out its movement. The rat still sprinting suddenly ran right through something. It stopped and went back to check what it had decimated. In the tunnel, bits of a spider were covering the walls, roof, and floor. It was truly gruesome. Time to eat.

The rat deactivated [Body Strengthening] and went around eating up the bits of spider, and then.

[You have come into contact with paralysis venom and have ingested it.]

[Your movements become dull and slow]

The rat suddenly felt it harder to move its limbs. When it ran through the spider, the spider's venom sack must've popped; this meant paralysis venom was covering all the walls too. Because of the effects of the rat's skills, the venom really didn't make a difference and could still move at incredible speeds. The rat decided it would be best if it could find something to wash off the venom with. Just then, the rat detected something around the corner with [Magic Detection]. It was slow moving and was weak, but the rat still activated [Stealth]. What it saw was some random slime. Lucky it! The rat pounced upon the slime and viscously ripped it apart. It scooped up the core in its mouth and crunched down. The rat then started rolling in the slime to wash out the venom; it then ate some of the untouched slime just because it was refreshing.

The rat took note of how weak all the monsters in these sewers were. It either needed to find a new more powerful monster to hunt or escape to the surface. It noticed that both the spell had worn off and it regained 1 Mp. It proceeded to use [Strength Enhancement] again, but then felt mentally drained. Was this because it only had 1 Mp left? If stamina was the body's power and it would feel tired when most of it was used, then mana could be said to be the same thing but for the mind. It was of no matter, Mp existed to be used. The rat began sprinting throughout the sewer killing monsters on the way. The entire time it only kept finding the same monsters or new ones but equally as weak. The rat remembered it said Stone Snakes were one of the dominant species, one of. It held out hope there might be something equally as strong or stronger. It did run across a few Stone Snakes, but got used to their attacks. While the rat was fighting one of them it heard a notice in its head.

[Due to raised Con and constant inflictions of petrification, you have gained the skill: Petrification Resistance]

The rat also managed to raise the level of [Blunt Damage Resistance] by constantly crashing through enemies; the rat had also leveled up [Support Magic] twice. Suddenly while running it slowed down, the rat looked at its status and saw why; the effects of [Strength Enhancement] had run out, and the rat did not possess enough Mp to cast it again. The rat decided to wait to cast it until it had at least 6 Mp; the rat did not want to find out what would happen if it ran out of Mp. The rat wanted to keep itself busy while waiting, and decided to start digging at the walls. Why? Because why not. It used [Burrow] and began making a cave for itself. In the very first swipe of the rat's claws, it demolished the area it scratched at. This must have been the effects of all its skills and the accomplishment [Stone Breaker]. The walls of the tunnel were made out of stone brick. That was when the rat realized something, it looked back to where it came from and there it was. Crushed stone from when it was running. Neat. The rat decided it didn't matter and went back to digging; it had successfully after 2 hours made a home. It was then the rat realized how tired it had been. It did from the moment it was born, battled and did its damned best to murder everything in front of it. The rat decided now was a good time to rest and layed down. It then promptly went to sleep.

The rat woke with a stur. There was this sloshing sound coming from outside, and something had popped up on its [Mana Detection]. It was something big, and quite strong. The rat peeked from outside and saw something from nightmares. It was a slime, but fleshy and dark purple. Even from a distance the rat could smell it. The smell was awful and that of death and rot. It was fighting with a Small Spider, and when it went to attack it opened up a large mouth with many mismatched fangs and teeth. It went and consumed the Small Spider in one bite. It was large, half the size of a human, and when the rat was inside the slime's body, it began to dissolve. The rate at which it dissolved slower, but the slime used its fangs to chew up the spider. This was a Fanged Slime, an evolved version of a slime. The teeth of the slime victims would be used as the slime's fangs. It repelled other monsters through the awful scent of flesh. Then the rat sensed it. Its focus had shifted onto it.

… Shit.
