In the dead of night, Abigail stirred from her slumber, her movements slow and deliberate as she slipped out of bed. With utmost care, she wrapped a short towel around her petite, curvaceous frame, the soft fabric embracing her like a second skin. Casting a fleeting glance at Lucky, his breathing steady in the stillness of sleep, she ensured he remained undisturbed.
Stepping with silent grace, she navigated the dimly lit room, her footsteps muffled against the carpeted floor. Clutching her phone tightly, its glow a beacon in the darkness, she ventured toward the veranda, a sanctuary beckoning her with promises of solitude.
Placing her hand on the iron rim, she dialed a number on her phone, the sound of each digit echoing in the quiet night. After two rings, a voice answered on the other end.
"Hello Velverosa, how are you doing?" the voice greeted warmly.
"There's no time for greetings. You said what I am here for is a key, but it's not. It's something else," she whispered urgently, glancing back to check if Lucky was still asleep.
"If it not a key, then what is it?"
"It's something much bigger, something powerful. I happened to find out that it's a pearl, a very powerful one to be precise, and it's in him," she replied, her voice low and urgent.
"What do you mean 'in him'? How will the pearl be in him, and how is it a pearl?" The man at the other end was puzzled as he asked those questions.
"How will I know how it turns out to be a pearl? You guys gave me wrong information. What am I going to do when the pearl is in him? Do you think what I am facing here is something easy? Is putting up with all this facade easy to you? You better think of what to do fast and tell everyone what the problem here is."
"Calm down Rosa, there's no need to be so serious about this... How do you know the pearl is in him?"
She actually found out when both of them got intimate last night. At that moment, she could sense all forms of energy in him. Noticing a strange energy, she decided to delve deeper. That's how she found out that what they are looking for is actually a pearl, and not a key. And it's in him. That's what made the matter worse.
"That's not what you should be asking me now. How I know is none of your business. Just tell me what the next move is."
"Okay, fine. You will have to bring him here. That's the only way to remove it and complete our mission."
"What! Bring him where? Do you think we're dealing with some kind of fool? He is Damon, have you forgotten? A guy who could eradicate you guys with just a blink of an eye. He's more powerful than you think, very powerful. I think you know that," she warned proudly.
"You're talking as if you're warning us about your powerful husband. I hope it's not what I am thinking," he responded cautiously.
"Think whatever you want, I don't care, but bringing him over there is not a good idea. How will I even do it? I don't have enough power to hallucinate him, so don't talk about that," she retorted firmly.
"Don't worry about that. I'm going to send you something. You just have to kiss him with it, that's all," he assured her confidently.
"Okay, I will be expecting that. Bye, I have to go before he notices I am not in bed," she hastily whispered into her phone. Just as she ended the call, she froze, hearing a voice behind her.
As Abigail ended the call, she felt someone wrap his arm around her waist and rest his jaw on her shoulder, sending a shiver down her spine.
"Who are you speaking with?" His question hung in the air, making her heart race as she scrambled to come up with a believable response.
" You are awake?" she asked, attempting to divert his attention.
"Yes, I am. I woke up when I couldn't find you in bed anymore. What are you doing at this hour and who were you speaking with?" his voice was calm but curious.
"Um... ah, about who I was speaking with, I was talking to Betty, my friend who called me last night. I received a call from a bar saying she's drunk, so I called her boyfriend to pick her up," she lied, hoping he wouldn't press for more details.
"Oh, but by this time, I hope she's alright?" he asked in a hoarse voice.
"Yeah, she is... she's alright, everything's fine now," she replied, her voice slightly stammering.
"Then let's go back to sleep. It's just 2 am, and I am very sleepy," he complained, turning her around gently and pushing her back onto the bed.
He lay down and spread out one of his hands for her to rest on. After making sure she was well tucked in bed, he covered her with the duvet and went to sleep. Abi, on the other hand, could still feel her heart thumping hard, too scared that he might have found out about her secret. Pushing all thoughts away, she snuggled close to him and eventually fell asleep, finding comfort in his warmth and presence.
