Chapter 29 - The Cave (2)

"Alright! Calm down" Connor's hand shifted to his sword as he said. "I'll find him"

"Now that's a lot better" Brog smiled before sitting back down. This man is the leader of the Fighters. If Connor somehow managed to get his hands on a Void Tablet and learned one Skill in Swordsmanship, then Brog has most likely mastered a style already with enough Stars in strength to rip someone's head off empty handed.

The Cave exploration isn't something Connor can avoid. 'I hope if I die and I revive again!' He thought, feeling some worry. He did not know if what happened that day with Clay was a one time thing or something he could exploit. Unfortunately, Connor isn't willing to test it. Who would jump off a roof just to see if he could fly? Only fools!

'With this equipment I won't even survive a single minute in there!' Connor thought. He looked at his old and badly made Leather Armor and his Broad Sword that could barely handle the force of his swings and sighed.

'Alright, so a new Sword and Armor is needed… I could sell the Crossbow since I won't be using it anytime soon and learning by myself will take too long to master.. Sell the Sword as well and get another.. Hopefully an enchanted one this time or one made from the Ruin minerals.

With his 900 GC and the extra Coins he got after selling what he needed to, Connor got his hands on a One-Handed Sword with a dark blade. It was made out of a mineral called Obisan, which was found in bulk inside the Ruins… The Armor though was tougher to find then he thought, so without any other choice he handed the Leather Armor he had on to be reinforced by Oscor.

[452 GC]

Connor looked at the Gold he had left and sighed. "So much to do but I lack funds!" He muttered. "I need to go hunting.. I can't go into that damn Cave without the Second Swordsmanship Skill!"

To earn Gold Connor did not have a lot of options. It was either to steal from the houses or Hunt, since he had the Gutting Skill why not make use of it, he got it for this purpose anyways and the Soul Energy would be useful as well.

The rest of the day was spent with Connor hunting outside. With his new Superhuman body and skills none of the Animals he used to fear before managed to do anything to him.

Night fell, the stars and moons were back to their spot as Connor walked to Sam, starting to negotiate. With Connor's Inventory full of Beast materials and meat he managed to get himself quite the hefty sum.

[1255 GC]

'With this I can upgrade my Swordsmanship and get myself a Bow' Connor thought. He took care of the Bow part pretty easily as a short wooden bow hugged him from the back, right after, he walked to Craig, upgrading his Swordsmanship.

Connor's legs felt sore but had the substance of steel, a set of Footwork was infused into his brain forcefully. He knew how to perfectly perform the Skill masterfully, now that he has it he couldn't be more surprised by it, unfortunately he couldn't try it out just yet as exhaustion washed over him.

"Good morning Connor!" Lisa smiled as she saw Connor sit up. She was just done washing some clothes and preparing breakfast. Although she was a woman of science and a future Doctor, seeing how Connor has been taking care of mostly everything himself, including killing those things and exploring, she felt like she needed to do something as well.

"Good morning Lisa!" Although he was still angry at her he couldn't help but feel a warmth in his heart whenever they interacted. She changed him to a better person and will always love her for it.

"The others are already awake" Lisa said. "They're outside trying to remember the Hotel's property, to see if there's any other way to leave than the two options we have"

"They wouldn't find anything that easily" Connor continued. "New York isn't really the safest place, fancy hotels and other similar facilities are not easy to break into and therefore break out other of without using the normal exits… But let them be, something like this will keep them busy and get their minds off of things"

"True" Lisa said with a sad expression.

"Don't worry… We won't stay here long!"

Lisa nodded with a smile and got back to what she was doing. Connor stood up, clenching his fists to test something and a smile quickly appeared and disappeared. He walked outside, greeted Maggy and Earl before heading behind one of the Bungalows. No one minded what he was doing so it was easy to get away.

"I feel the terrifying Strength in my body" Connor chuckled. "Alongside it the powers of the Axe Ring are working as well.. I now have basic mastery over it" He said, grabbing the Axe he brought with him and started moving.

The Axe is a lot simpler than a Sword. With only one sharpened end, so even without Axemanship and Skills there was not much needed as just swinging with it using enough Strength would have enough satisfying results.

Connor's movements were smoother, he remembered that the same thing changed when he learned the Basics of the Sword the first time. 'I wonder if there is anyone at the Camp that teaches Axe Skills..' Connor thought. 'The only one I know that uses the Axes is Brog' Connor sighed, remembering the intolerable man that always sat doing nothing but give orders. 'forget about it then.. For now'

The rest of the day passed without much going on. Connor wasn't about to fight the Giant Creature Variant at the Hotel just because he has some strength now. Looking at the thing his current Level of Skill is definitely not enough, especially with the size difference.
