Chapter 6 - MEETING NEW YORK

|One month later|

After taking her bath, Angie settled on a casual dress of faded blue jeans and a white tank top to match. She heard her name being called downstairs and hurriedly picked up her small handbag and headed out not after giving her room one more glance.

The family stood outside staring at the place they'd lived in their entire lives. They couldn't imagine they'd have to leave their most precious and beautiful place to somewhere else.

"Let's go." Mr Thompson said to his children.

"You guys should go on, I'll meet you at the airport." Angie announced as she strode to her car, "I have something I want to get done".

She opened and entered her car and ignited her key.

"Don't be late." Mr Thompson said after and beckoned Dennis to get into the car.

She zoomed off.

As she rode, she couldn't hold her tears as she took the route to Mrs Hudson's house.

"Mrs Hudson!" She shouted on getting into her building.

Mrs Hudson heard her voice and ran outside. She has been waiting for her. They hugged each other while Angie cried out her eyes.

"Don't cry, baby girl. Don't make this beautiful face get swollen." Mrs Hudson consoled.

She used her finger to wipe away the tears dropping off.

"I'll miss you a lot." Angie kept on saying.

"Come on you'll be late for your flight and don't keep your Dad waiting." Mrs Hudson told her and pulled away from the hug.

"One more time Mrs Hudson," Angie said, spreading out her hands.

"No. Start going now as soon as possible." Mrs Hudson said, turning her toward her car.

"Don't forget to visit when you've come of age." She said solely.

"I will, thanks for being their ma'am," Angie mumbled and gave her another hug before she entered her car and rode out not until she waved at her teacher.

"You're here." Jane waved to her friend when she saw her entering the airport waiting area.

Mr Thompson, Dennis, Jane, and little Zee sat down waiting for Angie.

"Hope I'm not late?" Angie asked her father who shook his head.

"Will you miss me?" Dennis asked the beautiful girl sitting next to him.

"Yes." Zee nodded, sadly.

"Keep this with you then." He said to her and bestowed her with his favourite wristwatch.

"I thought someone once said, I can't give anybody this wristwatch, it's special." Angie mimics and waves her hand across her head.

"You don't know what I mean when I say it's special, dummy."

"Dummy? Is that me?" She asked moving close to him but stopped a meter when she heard the announcement.

"Good afternoon passengers!" A lady greeted the entire airport from the announcement board.

"This is the pre-boarding announcement for flight k2.1 New York. We are now inviting those passengers with small children, and any passengers requiring special assistance, to begin boarding at this time. Please have your boarding pass and identification ready. Regular boarding will begin in approximately ten minutes. Thank you".

They all stood up on hearing the announcement and hugged each other.

Angie looked everywhere searching for Ben but could not get a glimpse of him.

"Maybe he's busy." She thought and faced Jane, "Make sure you guys get things on the safer side and take good care of him for me, friend." Angie pleaded.

"I will," Jane promised.

Jane and Zee waved them goodbye as everyone tried to clench their cries. They would miss each other.

Angie knew it was a long time before the plane landed because she slept for a long time.

She stepped out of the plane and met New York for the first time. Just looking at the view made her worried. She has heard a lot about New York and it's said to be one of the best cities in the United States of America. What will the journey be like for her?

Meeting new people that she doesn't know. Attending school with new faces of students. Will New York be the same as California?

She kept pounding on these questions as she watched the view.

"Are you okay Angel?" Mr Thompson inquired

"Yeah, I'm fine dad, just trying to have a picture of this place".

"Okay, let's get our luggage, the chauffeur will be waiting." He said as we walked into the airport.

"Chauffeur? What about the cars?". She asked, worriedly.

"The station officers will take it for us. We don't know the route to our house yet." Her dad explained and I heaved a sigh of relief.

"Where in New York City are we going to live?" Dennis asked as we headed to carry our luggage.

"When we get there you'll know". Dad answered.

"But we don't know New York yet," Angie said.

"You'll know when you get there."

As they walked through the airport highway, Angie couldn't help but cherish the territory. She still felt anger but they were starting to drop down little by little.

Mr Thompson finished paying off some men who helped in uploading their luggage into a truck car and they all headed to the car where the chauffeur was waiting for them.

Angie hoped she would find the place more interesting because she didn't want to live her life with regrets.

As they rode to their new house she found the whole place fascinating.

She was baffled at New York's beauty and colour. She couldn't help but smile as the chauffeur kept pointing and describing beautiful places.

"I'm hungry." Dennis suddenly announced and that was when it dawned on them that they haven't had anything after the whole journey except for some snacks they took along with them.

"Can you please stop us at any comfortable restaurant?" Dad pleaded with the chauffeur who agreed immediately and drove us to a restaurant.

We had lunch and stayed a little longer because I heard the chauffeur telling Dad that our journey was close to three hours.

It gave her a chance to watch the way the people in New York behave. She concluded that they were beautiful people. She couldn't help but feel excited as she was already enjoying the city of New York.

Her thinking began to change from the one she had prior. Maybe, she wouldn't miss California for too long as she had expected.
