This was the first time I had heard her use this tone, so I abruptly turned my gaze at her.
"Excuse me?" Did I hear her right? Did she tell me not to provoke the Elders? I was the one they insulted that I had no right to be an Alpha, and this is what I will hear from her? I couldn't help but get angry. Claw was also infuriated.
"You should have restrained yourself earlier and didn't retaliate. You don't know what they can do to our pack and all the pack members," he said, looking straight into my eyes.
She received a dangerous growl from me. Claw was also suppressing herself, so she did not reach her limit. Although she was startled, she immediately smiled as if she had heard nothing.
"Relax, Raven, I know you can protect and defend our pack, but my point is you also have to be alert. Now that they know your identity, every Alpha from another pack will challenge your position and snatch it from you. Worst it, they will plan to kill you," she said placidly.
"Let them come! As if I'm afraid of them. I earned my name Alpha Claw from nothing. I can still keep my throne and protect all of you. You know me so well, Blanch. I'm not that delicate and frail that they can easily kick me out of my position, "I said firmly, and she nodded, a broad smile on her lips.
"That's what I respect about you, Raven," she said, content with my answer. She blew me a kiss before she stormed out of my office.
"Kaydon," I called my Beta through our mind link.
"Yes, Alpha?"
"Instruct all of our warriors to be alert twenty-four seven. Divide them into two groups; one is for the night shift, and the other is for the day shift. You'll be the one to lead the group day shift, and I'll be leading the night shift. Secure all the areas. Sphere's still not in good shape, so I can replace him first to patrol," I instructed.
"Roger that, Alpha," he replied before ending our mind link.
I entered my room and went straight to the bathroom to shower. I also removed the lipstick and makeup from my face. Then afterward, I changed into black sleeveless and rubber shoes before going out and facing the warriors. They are the night shift group that I will lead to patrol tonight. I want to keep the pack I'm leading safe. I can sacrifice what I have to take good care of them. I want to dedicate my whole life to them; I can die for them. This is my third pack, and I don't want to lose them again. They're my family. Besides, the previous Alpha entrusted me with the pack, so I don't want to disappoint him. They treated me like their daughter and showered me love so I won't neglect this pack.
"Everything is quiet, Alpha; nothing is suspicious around us," Lombard spoke when we reached our territory boundary.
"Do not be deceived by the silence of the night, Lom. The crows wake up to hunt for their prey at night," I whispered. "Sharpen your eyes and hearing. The opponent may just be hiding and waiting for an opportunity to attack us, "I said as I also felt the quietness of the night. Then I heard an unfamiliar heartbeat. This strange heartbeat is not coming from one of my warriors. A kind of nervous rhythm; they're a heartbeat of our enemy.
Fuck!
"Everyone! Prepare for a fight," I said through our mind link.
As I expected, many wolves emerged from the abandoned area previously owned by the Blue Crescent pack, but now it's in my hand. I want to build houses on half of the land for our new members.
And when my force and the enemy's force collided, fallen leaves and dust flew everywhere.
I didn't bother to shift and fight them with my human form. The only difference was my eyes glowed and turned sapphire blue, indicating that I was in my vampire mode. Using my speed, I agilely snapped my enemy's head. I jump from one enemy to the other, not even without pausing.
"Find their leader! Bring him to me, alive or dead," I commanded my warriors using our mind link.
My warriors are all well trained and can still fight even in their human form. That is something I'm proud of. So far, no one is dead.
I snapped the head of the one I was holding, but as I threw his body away, he still tried to scratch me using his deadly paw, but I swiftly dodged him.
My hand paused when a foul and stinky scent hit my nose. Something so familiar. I instantly looked where that smell was coming from.
Shit! Rogues!
Behind them, my sharp eyes caught someone. It was wearing a hooded cloak and was holding something pointing at me.
I felt a sting in my head.
Did the two groups talk and have a plan to attack us? Are they trying to ambush us? Two attacks in one night?
I ignored the stinging pain in my head and proceeded to fight. My instinct is telling me to hunt the one behind that hooded cloak. But before I ran toward that stranger, two rouges plunged at me. One of them bit my arm but shrugged him off and reached his neck, severing his head. Blood splattered on me, but I ignored it.
The ones who are attacking us now are Rouges. Why didn't I smell them earlier? I can discern that their scents are the same as the King, but what is this? Are they using this scent to hide? But that person wearing that cloak?
Who might that be? Then an idea instantly flashed in my head. I captured one rogue and commanded my warrior to imprison him in our pack's jail. Jorie carried the rogue and lifted his feet to leave when I felt something approaching us. I immediately sidestepped and caught the thing swiftly.
What—dart??
I looked closely at the dart, and there was gray liquid at its tip.
Silver!
Whoever tried to shoot this wants to kill one of us.
I desperately scanned the whole area, especially where this dart came from, but I found no one to my dismay.
"Return to the packhouse, now!" I told them in our mind link.
I watched my warriors run back to the packhouse. Afterward, I searched for the person responsible for shooting the dart I was still holding.
Suddenly, my nose smelled a scent that should not be there.
A human scent? What the hell is a human doing in here?
My ears twitch when I heard his footsteps trying to get away from here. I speedily ran towards him and caught him.
"P-Please! S-Spare me!" he pleaded while trembling. "I don't want to do this, but she asked me to do it," he exclaimed; fear was evident on his face. Maybe because he was terrified, he fainted.
I'm puzzled about who this 'she' is referring to. I decided to take him to my packhouse to interrogate him when he woke up.
