Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Election

The deadline had finally arrived. We submitted our speeches and the class went to the auditorium. I was not worried but I could see that my classmates were.

I feel as if some of them do not belong in this school but I think some of them do belong here. Not everyone is born a genius but even so, those who aren't can still become one.

I was once considered an idiot. I felt terrible and I would shed tears knowing that I wasn't special. I wasn't good at most of the things I did and I wanted to change that.

Once I started to increase my knowledge and intelligence it made me feel more confident. I deserve to be in this school I earned it.

That is why I will not hesitate to do what I have to do to graduate from this school even if it means hurting people. I have come too far. My family is depending on me.

The lights in the auditorium turned off except for the stage lights. Those who submitted their speeches started presenting one after another.

When it was my turn to deliver my speech I walked onto the wooden stage. I spoke in a confident tone.

"My name is Takeo and I am running for the Student Body President. Today is our first day at MAPO High. It has been a very interesting first day so far. We were given an hour to write a speech that will influence the school in such a drastic way. Now to get right to the point. I am risking my points not because I believe I will win but rather because I believe do my best as president. I will listen to all of you and I will do my best to change the school with all of your feedback. Of course, this applies only if it is my power to change it. To those who are stressed about the school year do not be. It is already a great achievement to be accepted into this school so try your best, to show the world what you can do. To those who are sad about having a lower class ranking stop feeling sad because you can always improve. I am risking my points not because I believe I will win but rather because I believe do my best as president. The interests of the students will always be first. If you want a president who cares and will do something for the students then vote for me Takeo ."

If I'm being honest my speech was mediocre at best. Speeches were never my strong suit and the suggestions that the other students gave me were horrible. I still had confidence that my speech was superior to the other speeches.

After I finished my speech I sat in a seat in the auditorium and watched the rest of the students present. Once everyone finished their speeches we were told to download an app that the school owned to vote for who we wanted. I voted for myself and my classmates. It wouldn't be that surprising if I was the only one who got on the council for our class.

Ten minutes have passed and the results were in.

I wasn't elected and it wasn't close either. The girl with black hair from my class did get the position she ran for however, the girl with blonde hair did not. It turns out the name of the girl with black hair is Akari Abiko and the girl with blonde hair's name is Nagisa Takayama.

Even though I haven't won the position as president I still have become a leading figure in my class.

The class's total points have only gone down 100 points and one of our classmates has gotten the second most powerful position in the student council. The loss of points is a sacrifice that we can make.

The principal then went on the stage. He had short black hair and was wearing an leather black suit with gold highlights and plain leather black pants. He then asked everyone who had won a position on the council to go onto the stage.

He then congratulated all of them and explained what the positions would do and the bonuses that each position granted.

The part that I paid attention to the most was the bonuses

The secretary position gives thirty percent more bonus points every week to only the person who is the secretary.

The treasurer gives their class the ability to see the total of the other classes' points as well as giving a ten percent discount on all items for their class.

The Vice President also gets the ability to see the total as well as giving their class both five percent more points every week and a five percent discount off of items that students can buy with points.

The president gets the ability to see other classes' total points and their class's total points are hidden from other classes including classes with other council members. The president's class also gets their class both seven percent more points every week and a seven percent discount off of items that students can buy with points.

On the same app that we voted on our points were shown as well as our class's total points however if some classes didn't have a student with a certain role on the council then they would be unable to see the total class points of other classes.

I could see all of the other classes' point totals except for class S+ because the president is in their class.

"Alright, students be sure to make the best of this year!"

The principal then told everyone to go back to their class. When we got back to our class Abiko was surrounded by our classmates congratulating her. I also got some credit for her win.

I believe that Abiko will prove useful to me. She has already achieved a council position and I believe her exam scores will be high and she seems to be athletic.

"Why is she in class F-? Was she late like me on the first day of exams? Something is off about her."

I don't trust anybody in this class but they trust me. As long as they do what I say we will all graduate.

The teacher then went to the monitor at the front of the class and turned it off.

"Alright, class today we have nothing else to do so I suggest start making friends with each other. Tomorrow we have a physical exam and points will be awarded even if you do poorly. Also as many of you know this school has dorms and are of differing quality based on your class rank so don't expect much when you all go to your dorms. There are taxes each student needs to pay as well for the water bill, electric bill, and rent. At the end of every week, fifty points will be spent on those things. There is not much room for space so don't spend your money carelessly. Food and water are not free and will be paid with points. If you guys want to pay for someone else's expenses or donate to someone you can do it on the app. Also, don't ask other classes for points because you are unable to give or receive points from other classes."

I wasn't shocked at this news because I knew about this beforehand. After all, this information was on the school website. It would have been nice if I knew about the election beforehand too.

Since only two people in this class lost fifty points most people are comfortable.

The teacher then sat at his desk and went to his computer. Our classmates approached Takayama and me and they offered to pay for expenses if we had trouble paying them.

This was confirmation that I was trusted and it also seems that Takayama is someone who is trusted as well. Our class is working as a team and every team needs a leader. I will be that leader.

I walked over to Takayama and talked to her.

"Nagisa Takayama is it?"

"Yeah, that's my name. What's up?"

"I thought your speech was good and it's a shame you didn't win."

"Oh really? Thanks, I liked your speech as well. Also, your name is Takeo Suzuki right?"

"Yeah, that's my name."

I made sure to come off as friendly as I could and it worked. I could tell that she trusts me and thinks of me as a potential friend.

I then walked over to Abiko. I attempted to talk with her however my voice was drowned out by everyone else talking to her.

I walked back to my desk and I and Takayama talked a little more until school ended.

Once the bell rang the two men who were outside the school entrance in the morning were at the entrance of the dorms and gave us directions based on our class and room number.

This information was on the app that we downloaded so I just navigated my way through the building until I found my room. I opened the worn-down brown door and saw that my room was dirty. It was a reminder of my class rank.

I went into the bedroom and saw there was a bunk bed. I went onto the bottom bunk and began to read books on my phone.

I heard the door open. I got off the bed and saw it was Abiko. She is my roommate.

"Don't you try anything on me?"

"What? I wouldn't do something like that."

"Good."

"Also Abiko congrats on getting a position on the student council."

"Thanks"

At that moment I wanted to ask her why her class rank is so low but then I decided not to. I decided to ask her later on when I get her to trust me.
