Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: The Showdown

Our class and Class F went to our sides on the field. Cicadas buzzed as the sun's heat enveloped the field.

Asahi Tanaka was the goalie. He was also the one who refused to help others with their speech. He will do what I say now since I proved myself to him and the class.

The two defenders were Touma Sakamoto and Masashi Nishimura. Sakamoto was 6'2 had straight long blonde hair.

Nishimura 6'1, pale and had short straight black hair.

Tanaka was 6'3, tan, and had short curly black hair

I was nothing compared to them being only 5'7. My skin was slightly tan and my hair was straight short black hair.

Everyone who wasn't a defender or a goalie had to try to eliminate the enemies or knock down the pin.

The school coach walked onto the field wearing a plain grey t-shirt with blue shorts. He was also bald which quickly earned him the nickname, "The boiled egg."

The whistle was in the coach's hand and then he blew it. The sound the whistle made was loud it made my ears ring for a few seconds.

After the whistle was blown everyone went into their positions. The enemy team had a wall of seven people out of their total twenty-four players protecting their pin while we had one person out of our twenty-four players defending the pin while two other players assist them.

They had the advantage since we had two balls out of the six and they had four. Members of Class F threw their dodgeballs at our goalie however our defenders easily protected Tanaka with ease.

Three of the balls that the defenders deflected went back to the other side while we managed to gain another ball making our total three.

Abiko quickly ran and picked up the ball. She trusted herself forward as she threw the ball. She hit one of the seven players who were creating a wall in front of the pin.

The three other players of Class F threw their dodge balls again however, this time they hit three of our players. None of them were defenders or the goalie but Abiko was hit.

When the ball hit Abiko it hit her in the arm and the impact made a loud sound. Her arm immediately became a bright red. She quickly left the playing area shortly after she had got eliminated.

Class F still had twenty-three players while we only had twenty-one players.

We had all six balls on our side now. Four of our players threw their balls and got two players out however, none of them were guarding the pin and one of class F's players caught a ball which got another one of our players out.

I told everyone on our team to hold our balls until we had all six.

Class F threw all four of their balls all at once and three more of our players were eliminated.

The silver lining was that we had all six balls now.

I gathered all of our class and we huddled up.

"At this rate, we're going to lose. Instead of getting rid of the wall first maybe we should go for individual players. It would be easier to target the ones who are alone. Aim at their legs so they are forced to jump which would make them unable to catch the ball. If any of you see a player jump over a ball hit them because they are vulnerable. Everyone who has a ball pick one partner and plays with them one will throw the ball at a player's legs and if the player avoids the ball then one of you will throw the other ball while they're vulnerable. If we get two dodgeballs besides the ones our defenders have then whichever of you guys have the dodgeballs will play together instead of waiting for all six of the balls to be on our side again."

Those who had their balls got a partner and followed the strategy. It worked because we had gotten three people out. Two of the Class F players were hit in the leg however, one of them jumped over the ball but they were hit in the air by another ball.

The strategy was followed and worked because we managed to eliminate everyone who wasn't defending the pin. Some of our players were eliminated but we had the advantage of having twelve players while Class F had seven.

When all of the balls were on our side I gathered everyone together again.

"We are going to make a risky play here. Everyone throws a ball including the defenders. four of you hit everyone but the one directly in the front of the pin. The two defenders will play together and one of them will aim for the legs and when they jump and avoid the ball instead of hitting the player in the air hit the pin."

Everyone nodded and understood their plan. Three of the players who threw the balls got eliminated since the team had caught the ball however, we eliminated one member of the wall.

We had nine players left.

Our classmates who were eliminated started cheering and saying words of encouragement.

"Class F- for the win!"

"Don't let them win."

Nishimura and Sakamoto were still the defenders because they could easily deflect the balls. Sakamoto threw the dodge ball at the girl who was directly in front of the pin and she jumped which revealed the pin.

Nishimura then quickly threw the ball however the 5'5 girl with blonde hair in a ponytail to her right selected the ball with her foot.

She got out but she protected the pin and the ball was still on their side. Everyone who was left in class F immediately ran to get a ball.

Nishimura and Sakamoto tried to run to defend Tanaka however, both Tanaka and Sakamoto got hit. Three other of our players got out as well.

We had a total of four players.

Nishimura became the goalie, I became a defender and so did Takayama. I and Takayama grabbed and ran to grab two balls however, Takayama was hit by a dodgeball since the team had only thrown five at once.

We had a total of three players.

All of the balls were on our side.

Everyone grabbed a dodge ball however I grabbed two. I knew that leaving my position as the defender was risky however, I had to take a chance. I went back to the pin and became the goalie. I put the two balls on my back inside of my jersey which canceled them.

I told the other two players left to gather the remaining balls and have one ball in each of their hands and to throw it at the enemy team but miss on purpose.

The two players who were left were Muraoka Toshiaki and Horiuchi Katsu.

Both of them were 5'9 and were pale with slightly long black hair.

They looked confused at first but then trusted my word. They tried both of their balls at once and they missed all of their shots.

As the enemy team scattered for a ball only one of them was in front of the pin. It was a girl with dyed purple hair who had skin as pale as paper and she was 5'2.

I then dived onto the ground and threw the ball at an angle in which the pin was visible and their goalie blocked it. Shortly after their goalie left the field and went on the sidelines with the rest of the players who were eliminated.

I quickly took out the other ball that was hidden on my back and I knocked over the pin.

Everyone in my class roared screams of excitement. We won.

Class F looked disappointed that they lost. I do not feel bad for them because our class needed to win this game. I do not doubt that we will get our class rank higher soon which will save us from expulsion.

Abiko walked up to me.

"You finally won at something."

"Yeah, I guess. Also thank you for the points for food and water.

"I only gave you those points out of pity. I also gave Takayama the same amount so don't get excited."

"Thanks anyway, I guess?

She pointed at my right arm.

"You should probably treat your sunburn before it gets worse."

I then poked my arm and it was indeed sunburn. It stung once I touched it and I ran into the gymnasium and poured water onto it. Our teacher followed me into the gymnasium and congratulated me.

"Nice job, also you get match MVP since you hit the pin. Getting match MVP of course will give you an extra point bonus so you should look for that."

After a few minutes, everyone entered the gymnasium and the teacher told us that school was ending early today.

Everyone in our class trusts me fully except for Abiko.

"I know she doesn't see through me. She must have been betrayed by someone close or maybe she is smart enough to know that no one in this school should be trusted."
