"Oh shut up Jet." One of the twins groaned while pushing the other. He laughed but almost fell so he gripped onto the woman's shoulder.
"I can't catch you! You'd drag me down with you!" The woman still grabbed his wrist to try to keep Jet on his feet. As Jet and the woman bickered back and forth, the first twin stopped walking.
"What is it Ret?" The woman asked but he covered her mouth quickly. He turned to the line of trees to their left, trying to listen for something.
Bones was crouched behind a bush right in his line of sight. He stared through the leaves at the man who stared back without knowing.
"What are you looking at?" Jet asked.
"For Christ sake can both of you shut the fuck up." Ret growled, letting the woman go and slowly walked up the to bush. He gripped the tapped handle of his metal bat tighter.
Bones froze, seeing him walk closer. His eyes darted everywhere for anything to help him but he could feel his own heart drop the moment he realized the cowboy was no longer by his side. Now he was alone as the man with a spiked bat slowly stepped closer.
"Who's there." Ret snapped while starting to push some of the branches around with his bat. Before he could investigate further, the woman's yelp of pain caught his attention.
"Ow!-" she winced after a small stone had hit the back of her head. She spun around, searching for the one who did it but the tree line on the right was still.
"For fucks sake. What Cypher?" Ret growled while turning towards her.
"I don't know! Something just chucked a stone at me!" She jogged over to edge of the road, holding the metal pole with both hands. Her knuckles now white from gripping it so tightly as she swung at a bush but hit nothing.
"I don't think anything hit you. Could just be another hallucination of yours." Jet suggested but Cypher wasn't buying it.
"No. That was a whole ass stone that hit me. It's right there see!" She pointed to a small stone that was right where she initially stood. Cypher batted around a few more bushes before calling quits and walking back to the twins.
"Let's just get out of here." She grumbled, slinging her metal pole over her shoulder. Jet nodded in agreement and shambled alongside her while Ret followed behind the two of them. He occasionally looked back to the bushes he was searching but nothing popped up. Eventually they had walked too far to see the spot anymore.
Once they got far enough, Bones slowly rose from his hiding spot. His legs were shaking and sore from being crouched for so long but he slowly stepped out onto the street. He looked to the other side of the road just in time to see the cowboy drop down from a tree. He jogged over to the tall teen that was standing nervously at the edge of the road.
They stared at each other momentarily before just turning and walking back to camp. No words were exchanged between the two of them.
"The hell did you see?" Cypher asked Ret who had finally caught up to them.
"Thought I heard somebody." He shrugged, taking his cigarette out of his mouth to talk. Cypher rubbed the back of her head, slightly wincing.
"And somebody chucked a stone at me. Fucking hurt." She grumbled. Jet playfully poked at her back while snickering.
"Aw did a little stone hurt?" He teased. Cypher swatted at his hand then turned and shoved him.
"Oh shut up!"
"Shit!-" Jet exclaimed, falling back from being shoved. "Ow-.." he groaned, just laying down on the road instead of trying to get back up.
"You two are so loud. Jet get up, Cypher stop being a brat, we have to get back or else Tony is going to lock us out again." Ret snapped, putting his cigarette back in his mouth before grabbing Jet by the arm and yanking him back to his feet.
"Ow ow ow- Ret- that hurts- a lot." Jet hissed while a burning pain shot through his knees as he was forced back on his feet. His brother simply scoffed and let him go once he managed to stay up on his own.
"You two are going to attract zoms and I will shoot both of your legs on each of you and let them feast if you don't shut the fuck up." Ret growled which silenced both Cypher and Jet. The limping man gripped onto Cypher's shoulder for support until the pain in his knees subsided to a dull ache.
"Jesus Christ Ret, don't gotta be so violent," Cypher sighed, holding onto Jet's arm so he has support, "not like zoms can do much, they just shamble. Shit we can probably walk faster than most of em." She rambled on as they walked. Jet limped next to her, doing his best to keep up as he watched his brother get farther ahead of him. They were forced to walk for another long hour to get to their destination.
The empty road slowly turned into a town. A large wall made of scrap metal and wood surrounded the town and they could hear people talking and joking on the other side. Two people were up in watch towers, also constructed with wood and metal.
"Aye! Mike! Open the gate!!" Cypher shouted up to one of the men in the watch tower. He turned away for a moment, shouting something down to the people inside of the walls. After a moment of waiting the heavy gate was pushed open. It creaked and groaned from the years of rust that covered it's hinges.
Cypher rushed in quickly while Ret sighed and followed her. Jet shambled along behind them, starting to give up on trying to keep up. Once they both got inside the walls, the gate was pulled closed and they were home.
