Chapter 7 - Missing Brother

"Hey mama," Pippin called, looking up from her book. "Lasso's been gone for quite a while," she pointed out.

"I know, I'm sure he's okay," Mama reassured but continued to wonder where he was. It's not uncommon that he wanders off for long periods of time but it still worries her each time.

Shiny was playing cards with Bones and Xavier while he listened to the conversation. "He'll be fine mama; Bones that's not a full house, try again buddy," he spoke calmly, only glancing up from his cards to see what the others had placed down before looking back down at his own.

Mama let out a long sigh, "I know...but still he's been gone for awhile."

"He's like a stray cat mom...he's here, takes off for a little while, and comes back. I'm sure he can't get himself into too much trouble.." Xavier yawned, placing another card down and then his whole hand to show his cards.

Randy still slept and Lasso had gotten bored so he began to explore the house. He had already ventured into the kitchen so he went down the hallway of the one story house. Some of the wallpaper was peeling but otherwise the house seemed to be in good condition. The lights flickered so he found the light switch and shut them off. Darkness fell over him but he kept walking, feeling around the walls.

He finally found a door and felt around for the handle. Light came flooding in from a window inside the room once he had opened it. The cowboy blinked hard, trying to get his eyes adjusted to the new light. He poked his head in to a bedroom that had a barred window, a bed with messed up sheets, a dresser with one of the drawers wide open and it looked to be rummaged through. There was a large bookshelf in the corner and an old elephant stuffy that looked to be on it's last stitch.

Lasso walked over to the bed and carefully picked up the elephant. He curiously looked at it and noticed there was a name sewn in cursive into the arm.

"¿Cifrar?" He muttered. Lasso ran his thumb over the yellow thread before his attention was drawn to the sound of heavy footsteps rushing passed the room. He looked up just in time to see Randy zip by with a hand over her mouth. The lights were back on and flickering so he set down the elephant and poked his head back out into the hall and watched her run through another door. He stayed for a moment longer and could hear her hacking and coughing so Lasso slowly made his way down Randy who was in the bathroom. He poked his head in to see her bent over the sink, throwing up whatever she had drank earlier.

"Oh mother fuck...." She groaned, turning the water on and wiping her mouth with the back of her hand. Randy looked up in the mirror to see Lasso's reflection behind her. "What," she snapped, glaring at him in the mirror. Lasso stared back at her and shrugged, already coming to the terms that whatever he says, she wouldn't understand. He watched her closer now, studying the change of mood she had. Whatever happy, teasing asshole he had met before seemed to be gone now and was replaced with this sick, angry woman.

Randy turned the water off and pushed off the sink, turning and walking out of the bathroom. She nudged Lasso out of her way and walked right passed him. He watched for a moment and noticed she was hunched over and more of shambling instead of walking. The cowboy silently followed and saw her go into the kitchen. He could hear bottles rattling and he stepped into the kitchen to see her shaking a few of the bottles before setting them down again. She finally just slammed the last empty one down and cracks shot up the side of the bottle.

"Come on," Randy told him while walking out of the kitchen and to the front door. "And get off your fucking toes, you're not five." She scowled while opening the door. Light flooded in and she had to shield her eyes. Lasso begrudgingly lowered himself off the balls of his feet. He started walking after her, heard the wooden floors creaking under his footsteps, and began walking on his toes again to stay quiet before stepping outside with Randy.

"¿A dónde vamos?" Lasso asked but got no answer. Randy ran her hands through her choppy hair before pulling her hood over her head to shield some light from her eyes. They walked in silence for a few minutes before Randy stepped into what looked to be an old bar. People were inside talking with friends, laughing, playing cards. Lasso went to follow but Randy must've forgotten he was behind her and she ended up slamming the door in his face.

The cowboy jumped back and the door opened again. "Come on cowboy," Randy demanded and Lasso rushed in. In a far corner table, Lasso saw the twins and Cypher from earlier. The twins were playing cards while Cypher watched while munching on a bowl of fruit. Her gaze shot up from the game to Randy walking over.

"Randy!!" She smiled, setting her bowl down and getting up. She rushed over and hugged her with a big smile.

"Easy love, I ain't feeling the best," Randy warned while moving Cypher's arms from around her stomach to her neck. Cypher looked passed Randy to see the cowboy standing behind her.

"Hey, aren't those my clothes?" Cypher frowned, moving passed Randy to Lasso. The cowboy stepped away from her, and around Randy to avoid Cypher getting too close to him.

"His had a bunch of bullet holes, where's your dad?" Randy asked while patting Jet's shoulder before stealing his flask off of the table. Jet was too focused on his cards to really noticed so he just gave her a distracted wave.

Cypher went back over to her bowl of fruit and offering Randy a strawberry, who politely declined, "Outside somewhere, probably checking on some of the horses,"

Randy took a long drink of Jet's flask before nodding and ruffling her hair. "Thank you love, come on cowboy." She went to pat Lasso's shoulder but he stepped out of the way. She paid no mind to the fact that she missed, and walked out once more to find Tony. Lasso followed close behind, enjoying the feeling of the warm sun. He wasn't a fan of this AC. It was too cold for him.
