Chapter 8 - Buying Armor Part 1

"Yes!" Millie smiled brightly as she answered Alissia's declaration.

"First things first, we need clothes…. And a big bag to hold things. Let's go shopping for now. Millie, you will be in charge of the money. Later on, I will have you go over what is worth what." Alissia had no idea what the value of money was in this world, so it would be easier to let Millie deal with things for the short term until she got a grasp on things.

"I will teach you everything I know, Young Miss!" Millie did a weird salute causing Alissia to chuckle.

The two walked down the street with Millie in the lead. She still had a hold of the books, but Alissia took hold of the money since she was stronger and also did not wish for anyone to try to take it from Millie. Luckily from what Alissia could see, there were mainly rich looking people walking around on the streets, and nothing even close to a street rat. She wondered if this was because they were in the higher end of the city, close to the castle. She was not dumb enough to think there were no poor people in this world. That would not make sense. At least this was what she assumed anyway.

"Millie, I have been meaning to ask, but what are those giant canisters on the sides of the buildings with the bluish liquid inside?" Alissia had been trying to figure this out for a while now, and it never came up in Millie's explanation earlier.

"Ah, those are magicule batteries. They are what we use to give power to our daily lives, like the lights in the houses or even the cold box we store food in. It all uses these magicule batteries as its power source. Even the toilets run off them. Otherwise, the disintegration inscriptions on the toilets would not work." Millie's words caused Alissia to freeze. She wondered who in the right mind would give people that could disintegrate things. But when she thought about how this world was a world of magic where anything was possible with a single thought, she decided to forget about it. However, she made note to be more careful when using the toilet. She did not wish to lose her little sister by accident.

One would ask how Alissia was able to walk around so freely as a girl even though a few hours ago, she was a man, but this was because she had always had to adapt to the situation when she was living on the streets. She was not someone who cared too much about such things as the opposite sex in the first place, so mixing these two together, she was perfectly fine walking around as a woman. Plus, with a new world around her and a new life, she took it as starting off as something anew.

The two walked the streets, and Alissia once again bombarded Millie with questions about different things she saw. Millie did not seem to mind one bit as she happily answered any and all of Alissia's questions. However, they did get quite a few glances as they walked around due to their ratty clothing. But they did not seem to care in the least.

They walked for almost half an hour before they came to a clothing store, but when Alissia saw the store that was full of dresses, she immediately turned around and pulled Millie away. "Millie, what are we going to do with a bunch of dresses? First off, we are two girls who will be on their own. We can not be wearing frilly clothes. We need to dress like boys."

"Ah! Sorry, Young Miss, I did not think of that." Millie really was not thinking of such things. She only wanted her Young Miss, who was so beautiful, to wear a beautiful dress to match her appearance.

"It's fine, but let's look for a place where we can buy some clothing that will be more…. Over there!" Alissia saw a store where people wearing leather armor were coming and going. She figured such clothing would be perfect for the two of them as they would be on their own, and it could also be used for defense as well.

Millie pursed her lips as she gazed back at the dress store but only for a few seconds before following her Young Miss. When the two arrived at the store, Alissia walked in to see lots of armor displayed here and there, from leather to metal plate style. Something she had not noticed until now and that she found very strange was that she was able to read everything there. She had just arrived in this world and never studied its language, so being able to read everything with ease really surprised her, but now that she was thinking about it, she could understand this world's language and speak it as well as if it was natural. She did not know if she was speaking her original language or her own because of this feeling that told her it was normal.

"Hmm, let's find something that will protect us since we will be leaving the city soon." Alissia said as she walked towards the leather section.

"We are leaving the city!?" Millie asked in surprise.

"Mmm…. Millie, we can not survive in this city at this time. We have no way of making money. So unless we are able to find a job we know how to do or do side jobs for people, there is no way to make actual money for us." Alissia answered as she bent over and looked at a set of armor.

"Ummm… Young Miss, I did not mention it before, but there is a way to make money without needing to find a job in the city." Millie's words caught Alissia's attention.

"Oh? And what is that?" Alissia asked with interest.

"We can sign up to the adventurers guild in the lower city and then take on requests there. It will allow us to make money so we can just rent an inn room to stay in while we are in the city. Some requests will require us to leave the city to hunt monsters and stuff, but I think with Young Miss's strength, we will be fine. I also know a little bit of combat magic as well."
