Once again standing in the field he first tried out his magic, Mason was thinking.
'I can create skills myself, and get them from the shop or the Wheel of Fortune. Right now, I only have 5 skills. Well, I have tons of ideas for skills so that isn't a problem. The problem is how to make them work.' Mason thought with a pondering look on his face.
'Firstly, I have to make a skill that does high single-target damage. Last time, the Wolf almost killed me because Ice Bullet doesn't do enough damage.'
After thinking for a while, Mason knew just the right thing to do. He decided to make a big lance out of ice, with an extra sharp tip. Yes, it was basic. But it is a good skill against beast, since they have large bodies. After pondering on how to shape it exactly, Mason started trying it out.
A large lance made out of ice started appearing, it was at least 2 meters long. The spell wasn't exactly good looking, but Mason knew that it could kill. He deemed damage more important than looks.

Mason nodded, showing he was happy with his new creation. He decided to try out the skill on a large tree, testing damage was important. And he also just wanted to see the level of destruction from his new stats.
He just had to think about using the skill, and the system took only 2 seconds to form the giant lance. After that, it shot out with a speed that even the agile Wolf species would have trouble dodging. When it hit the tree Mason aimed it at, it didn't just ravage that tree. The lance kept going and only stopped after deleting at least 4 trees from existence.
'Damn, i definitely shouldn't use on a human. Unless they're trying to kill me.' Mason knew he wouldn't only kill the human he was aiming at, but also the objects behind the living beings.
After testing his single-target skill, he now wanted to make an AOE-skill. Mason had heard about monsters that hunted in packs, and he didn't want to die because of them. Luckily, he had once seen an anime where someone used both fire and ice. He started trying to imitate the skill, and after a couple of times trying. He got a message once again.

Mason decided not to test this skill, he didn't want to cause a ruckus since he wasn't that far outside of the village. This skill would probably freeze a 20 meter area in front of him after all.
After creating 2 attacking skills, his only weak point was defence. So he decided it was time to create a defensive skill aswell. He had already tried to learn this skill when he had only 1 year of Mana Practice, but he couldn't since it was too hard for him. The system is truly magical though, as it granted him 10 years of Practice in the blink of an eye.
The reason he failed was that it had too many little details for him last time. He couldn't guide the ice well enough to perfectly do what he wanted. Now, he started trying again. What he was trying to do was create an armour of ice over his body, so anytime someone tried to attack him, he would take less damage.
And sure enough after trying for about an hour and almost depleting his Mana, he finally did it.

'It's getting kind of late, I should head back' Mason thought as he started walking through the forest as a shortcut.
He didn't know if he was lucky or unlucky, but he didn't meet any beasts on his way through the forest. After getting out of the forest, Mason decided to ask the details of his new skills.
[Ice Lance: Create a grand lance of ice that does 1000-3000 damage to a single target, depending on the level of that target.]
"Damn! 3000 damage? Even that big ass wolf only had 1500 HP, does that mean i can one-shot level 10 beasts now? That's overpowered!" Mason yelled out in excitement.
[Ice Wave: A wave of ice destroys everything in sight, as it does 750-1500 damage to all target in a 20 meter range in front of the caster.]
[Ice Armour: An armour made of ice appears around the caster, this armour negates 50% of the damage done by creatures under level 5. Negates 20% of the damage done by creatures under level 25, and negates 10% of the damage done by creatures under level 50!]
Mason was truly happy with his newly created skills, his Ice Armour would be effective even if a level 49 Mage attacked him! Even though he himself is only level 9. You wouldn't see this sort of skill anywhere on the continent.
Mason was walking back home with a smile that one would have if he won the lottery. After reaching his house, he said hello to his mom. Elena had already prepared dinner, so they started eating together.
"What were you doing outside just now? You usually don't go outside even if I force you to." Elena asked
"I created some new spells, mom. I want to make sure that i become the number 1 student in the academy!" Mason answered
"It's good to be ambitious, but don't be let down if some crazy genius pops up from God knows where." Elena sighed, she knew there were always stronger people in the world.
Mason just nodded as he knew that he was going to be the crazy genius this time. Unless somebody else also got a System even better than his. But Mason wasn't worried, as an avid novel reader he knew that there was always only 1 guy with a system per world! At least usually...
After finishing dinner, Mason helped Elena do the dishes. For the rest of the day, he stayed with his mother. And when he got tired he went to bed.
'Next week on sunday, I'll show those capital bastards who's boss!' Mason thought as he was once again back in his old habit of being delusional.
He didn't know that in the capital, a girl with long blond hair and the same colour eyes as Mason was also getting ready for the try-outs.
