Chapter 42 - Duyi's Memories II

Duyi's abuse started from when he was two and up till now, when the kid was almost six years, it hadn't ended. Wen Yu stumbled upon a particular memory that made his stomach churn.

Duyi was four and finally accepting the awful reality of his little life when a couple of kids decided to trick him by saying there was a way to fix his spirit sea and make him capable of advancing.

He was hesitant and distrustful at first but when he thought of the fact that he could become strong and have the other kids treat him better and maybe make his adopted mother look at him with an expression other than disdain, he agreed.

They all crowded around him and he thought maybe it wasn't so bad. He was in the middle of these kids but for once, they didn't try to harm him and even wanted to help him advance.

Maybe he could actually forgive them. No, he would definitely forgive them if they helped him. He never really had friends and really wanted to know what it felt like to have people make jokes with him and not at him.

He smiled happily and gave the kids full access. The kid who orchestrated the plan was around eight and was a student of Lingxiu Academy so the other kids naturally looked up to him.

Even Han Zihao was especially close to this kid so even if the kid was quite average amongst the gloriousness of the other Lingxiu cadets, the kids had no idea.

Whilst at Lingxiu, the kid had stumbled upon a few seniors talking about how absorbing another's spirit core, no matter how weak, could improve a person's spirit potential and natural talent.

And even though half of what was said was probably bullsh*t, the kid decided to try anyways. There was a kid in their Han family home who was basically trash. Even if he had a spirit core and C rank potential, he could hardly assimilate.

Grabbing the kid's spirit core wouldn't cause much waves and he wouldn't be punished if what the seniors said turned out to be true as he would have potential so explosive even the elders would be unconditionally doting, just like they were with his cousin, Han Zihao.

The orchestrator went on to trick Duyi with a few kids acting as lookout and proceeded to remove his spirit core according to the method he overheard.

Wen Yu wanted to die. Not counting the fact if the method the kid overheard was actually feasible, how could a kid so wet behind the ears know how to put it to good use?

The pain was so intense. Even Duyi who had gone through a lot and had gotten used to pain burst out crying. Wen Yu who was residing in Duyi's body was not much better either.

He had never felt pain so strong before. He felt his soul weep. This was too much! Duyi's skin was tearing and he was coughing up large globs of blood.

Wen Yu forgot where he was and screamed in his heart. The kid was going to die! His spirit sea was tearing apart and his core was crumbling!

The other kids were terrified of this scene and left the place one after the other. Even if they had tormented Duyi to blood before, this time he was bleeding from all seven orifices and the sight was so gruesome some kids directly puked.

The orchestrator saw that Duyi's core wasn't forthcoming and increased the pressure of his spirit energy. Whether the entire sky came down today, he was going to grab Duyi's spirit core and become stronger!

This went on for so long Duyi was almost bleeding to death when a passing attendant saw the scene and screamed but instead of rushing over to help the kid, the stupid woman went over to inform her superior.

The superior came over and also saw this scene and instead of rushing over to help the kid, the stupid man went over to inform the family head.

If Wen Yu wasn't already bleeding alongside Duyi, he would have directly puked blood from their atrocious behaviours!

The family head finally sent someone over to put an end to Duyi's torture. The other kid was reprimanded fiercely but no real punishment was carried out.

Why would they place an adopted son over a legitimate member of the Han family? The said adopted son was even assimilation trash to boot. He should be grateful they took him in ah.

Who knew what would have become of him if he remained in the orphanage? They used this skewered logic of theirs to pat the wrinkly butts of their conscience and sighed in satisfaction.

Wen Yu spent months in the healing pod accompanying Duyi. His spirit core was faulty and it was only due to extreme luck that it managed to be repaired to a passable state but this meant that his heat episodes that weren't much of a hassle before, became unbearable for the kid.

Subjecting him to immense pain at really short intervals. Duyi felt hot resentment for the orchestrator and even the Han family at large but what could he do?

He wasn't an adult and even if he was, he would still be assimilation trash doomed to never advance in his entire life. He sometimes asked the heavens why he was given C rank potential.

Why not directly make him a D rank commoner so he wouldn't have hope at all? At this point, Wen Yu sympathized with the kid deeply. He felt exactly the same way.

Why give them spirit potential if they couldn't do anything with it and could only watch as other people trampled them and danced wantonly on top their graves?

Wen Yu soon opened his eyes and stared at the underside of the bunk bed above him. He checked his bracelet. Almost midnight. It was as if time hadn't moved at all.

He got out of his covers and slowly climbed to the top bunk. He stared at the sleeping Duyi who had his eyebrows furrowed and sighed in pity.

The kid's hair was disheveled and Wen Yu felt tears in his eyes. Just a kid. Who knew he had endured so much.

He reached out his finger to ease the kid's creased brows and went back to his own bed. This world was really too cruel, he thought as he finally drifted to sleep for real this time.

In the dark room, Duyi's eyes opened and he placed a palm where Wen Yu had previously placed his little finger.

The Wen kid was really weird.
