Chapter 45 - Training Camp

Immediately the cadets alighted the spaceship, they felt the steady drain on their spirit sea. It might be minuscule and could be easily ignored now but as time went on... They didn't dare imagine the outcome.

The amount of hex stones required to fight the natural atmosphere of Planet Dongwu wasn't small.

The elites had good quality hex stones that could last them a while but the commoner kids didn't, even the ones that did had only the low quality brown ones.

All the same, every pre-enrolled cadet, elite and commoner alike, clenched their fists in fear and repressed anger. If they were going to stay here for a while as was the plan of Lingxiu Academy, then their hex stones wouldn't be enough!

Some of them inadvertently looked over to Wen Yu and his group and then to the Academy pack in their hands. The Academy was naturally aware of this situation and must have made adequate preparations in those backpacks.

That Wen kid must have had information beforehand! How else would you explain the fact that only his group went out to take the backpacks hmm?

The nature of humans was like this. If they all rejected the backpacks, then that could be described as their loss but now that some of them had sufficient supplies, how could the other kids be satisfied?

They didn't even care to know if the so called Academy backpacks they were eyeing so greedily contained everything they needed to survive or not. They just knew a select few had them whilst the rest didn't.

As Wen Yu peacefully alighted the spaceship, he had no idea that he was already the target of public disdain.

The pre-enrolled cadets were taken to a clearing that was surrounded by a strong metal fence and filled with blue and white tents.

The boys were directly grouped together in a tent at the rear of the camp whilst Wen Lin shared a tent not far away from theirs with two other girls.

After the kids had settled in, they were all lined up in the middle of the camp to receive instructions. At this point they were all bursting with curiosity. What really was the second assessment about?

The Spirit master raised his chin high as he peppered them with information he deemed adequate for the kids to know. Not bothering to answer any questions.

It was a well known fact that Planet Dongwu had abundant high leveled spirit beasts. While that wouldn't be a problem as there was no human civilization to suffer harm, it was discovered that people would sneak into the Planet from time to time to smuggle these overpowered beasts to beast dens in other Planets or to directly use them to intimidate people.

This carried on for a while before the Federation decided to send a group of Mecha operators to serve as custom officers to safeguard the Planet and punish smugglers.

Calm came to the Planet once more before it was invaded by Xochs some years back and large amounts of Advance level beasts were captured and used to reign terror and despair on various human Planets.

The Federation curbed the situation but soon came to the realization that just guarding the beasts wouldn't be enough. These beasts were well bred by the natural occuring dead cores on the Planet and had insanely large numbers.

So not only were they overpowered, their population was also fear inspiring. Leaving them to continue breeding and multiplying would just be equivalent to sleeping on a ticking time bomb.

The Yang Federation soon came to a consensus with the other Federations and they would all constantly lease out Mecha operators or Spirit masters to cut down the number of spirit beasts at regular intervals.

In recent years, the amount of high leveled spirit beasts had dwindled a lot and it became a form of training site for the younger generation of the various Federations.

Even though the pre-enrolled cadets were only five, it was no problem for them to handle a few spirit beasts at their assimilation level.

They might be kids but their tenacity and vitality were similar to fully grown adult Earthlings in their prime thousand of years ago.

That being said, the kids' training involved them going out each morning to hunt spirit beasts. In order to test their efficiency and strategic minds, the number of spirit beasts available to them were quite small.

The kids were all pondering over this information when, a short while later, a different news made them burst into exclamations.

The second assessment training was going to last for a week.

This was very different from the other times. Some kids had more or less gotten clues from their seniors about the second assessment training. Nothing has been going as they were informed!

First, they were taken to Planet Dongwu and now this. If anyone should tell them that Lingxiu Academy wasn't after their lives, they would confidently spit in their eyes since they were blind!

They soon found out the reason for this development. The Fang Federation happened to also choose this time to train some of their young ones but realized the Yang Federation also wanted to test their pre-enrolled cadets.

Neither side was willing to give in to the other and it soon turned into a challenge. The younger generation from the two Federations would both compete in the planet and whichever side captured the most spirit beasts under one week would have autonomy to train in the planet for the following three turns.

Even if there were other convenient planets for each side to train, they all remained adamant. The situation had already escalated into a matter involving National pride!

There were currently two training camps. In the East was Lingxiu Academy with their blue and gold flag and in the West was Fang Federation's Feng Academy with their green and white flag.

Now some kids were truly confused. If such a thing was going to happen was Lingxiu Academy not supposed to make sure their cadets were in the best state?

The hex stones they had with them for fighting the energy drain of Planet Dongwu was so small ah.

What the kids did not know was that the Academy had already put into consideration the stubborn behaviours of the kids and were certain the supplies on each kid was definitely going to last at least a week.

Anything after that and that was the cadets' businesses. It was a good thing the challenge they hoped to win would last for just one week. If these bunch could not win such a simple challenge then they might as well just return to their homes.

They better not dare lose face for Lingxiu Academy or else...
