Chapter 9 - Chapter 8

"Where the hell were you?"

Is there still time to go back? I turned around and wistfully looked at the black lambo driving off. Cora also looked behind me and grimaced, "You were with him?"

"Yeah, I had some things to discuss with him."

"What kind of things?" She further probed.

I sighed, entering the house, "Nothing just some stuff about my dad."

"Why didn't come back after? You could've slept here." She said as she followed me up to her room.

I rummaged through my clothes and pulled out a simple white shirt and black pants.

"I was too tired, Cora. It doesn't matter, I have slept over there like a million times." I threw her clothes at her. "Come on, change, we're gonna be late."

"Fine."

"Hey, by the way, guess who I met today?"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"So....the presentation went well ?" I meant to say it as a statement but it came out as a question, making me cringe on the inside.

"Yeah, it was great when I stuttered like a hundred times after every sentence." Chase's voice dripped with sarcasm as he speed-walked past us.

"Stop smiling, you're annoying him." I gave Hunter a dirty look and rushed to catch up with Chase.

"Hey, he should be glad I'm not beating the shit out of him for ruining our project." he yelled behind us, to which Chase held up his middle finger in response without looking back.

"You could've told us you have stage fright."

"Why? Was the 'I would look like a moron' not enough for you." he sulked.

I grabbed his hand pulling him to stop. When he opened his mouth, I held up a finger stopping him.

"Let....me.." I huffed, "Catch my...breath."

"You've like the worst stamina."

"You've long legs and you were practically running." I countered.

Chase smiled, looking down, "You're so short"

I scowled at him. Suddenly a thought appeared in my head, making me smirk. I stood on my toes and reached up to ruffle his hair, "You are not scared of guns, but you're scared of speaking in front of people."

He swatted at my hand and quickly fixed his hair, "You're a jerk. And I'm never going to that class again. I will probably change my major."

"Don't be dramatic, aren't you here to take care of me? Do your job properly and attend all classes."

I just wish he graduates and gets an actual job.

"Yes ma'am." He mock saluted me, then his expression turned serious.

"What is it?"

"I actually have to leave for a few days, there's some.." he paused, looking for a word, "..work to be taken care of. Take care of yourself, alright?"

"Where are you going?"

"Work." He placed his hand on the side of my head, "Don't do anything stupid."

"So basically anything you would do."

He laughed, but his smile soon faded when his gaze fell on something behind. I was about to turn when he pulled me in a hug, catching me off guard. I tried pulling back but he resisted.

"Take care, Violet." I stilled hearing his voice, the playfulness earlier was gone. I nodded into his chest. Suddenly his body was ripped away, making him stagger. It took me a while to register the scene in front of me.

"Hunter!"

The guy towered over Chase, who was now on the floor, and started pelting punches. A hand grabbed me and pulled me aside.

Cora.

"What are you doing?" I shouted at her.

"Don't go there, you could get hurt."

I stared at her with disbelief, "Are you fucking serious right now?" I didn't hear her response as my eyes were now on the new figure, Dylan, whose right hand was on his waistband and his eyes were trained on Chase who had now started fighting back. My eyes widened on the realization that he was ready to pull out his gun if needed. I pushed Cora back and rushed towards Chase.

"Chase." My voice was calm and authoritative, which on instinct made him back away from Hunter. He looked at me a bit surprised.

"Don't."

He bowed his head slightly and pushed through the crowd that had now gathered.
