Chapter 5 - Chapter 4

The cold water washed away the sand stuck in my toenails. I wrapped a towel around myself and stared into the mirror. I looked nothing like my father. Many questions about my mother were stuck in my head but I never got an answer to any of them. Anytime I asked anything about her it would anger him.

My questions were always left unanswered. Today also, millions of questions were etched into my brain but Chase kept quite the whole ride way back.

My thoughts were interrupted when I felt someone watching. My head immediately whipped towards the open window. Grabbing my knife from the pocket of my jacket ,which hung over the hook on the door, I cautiously walked over to the window. I peeked over.

Nothing.

I shrugged off the weird feeling and put on my clothes at top speed. Even if I'm dying, one thing's for sure, I'm not dying in a towel.

"Fuck!" I screamed at the top of my lungs as I opened the door.

"What happened? Are you okay?" Cora's voice came from the darkness. She was the silhouette sitting on the bed.

"You scared me. When did you wake up? At least switch on some damn light, you gave me a heart attack."

I took a deep breath trying to calm down my heart.

I heard a click and the bedside lamp threw light over her face, showing her worried expression.

"Where did you go?"

"Out. Just for a walk." I had no idea why I lied.

She smiled at me and patted the space beside her, "Let's sleep."

Chase's voice rang in my ears.

'You can't trust anyone.'

"I will sleep on the couch, I'm sure you need your space."

"What? No. Come one. We have slept on the same bed before, what's wrong?"

I hesitated for a moment before climbing onto the bed, and lying beside her. She lightly stroked my hair, "Goodnight Violet. Don't think too much."

I scraped the vegetables to one side of the plate. Heavy silence hung on our table while the rest of the cafeteria was the poster of chaos.

"So we got assigned to the same group, huh? " Cora was the one to break the silence.

I kept looking down at my plate. After our conversation last night I was too afraid to make eye contact with Chase. Well not afraid. Just not looking forward to it.

"Who can work on the report?" I asked.

"I can."

"I could."

Chase and Hunter spoke in unison. I swallowed a bite while nodding.

"That settles it, you both work on that. Cora and I will make the presentation and Dylan could present it."

"I'm not working with him." Hunter scrunched his nose looking at Chase with disgust.

"Acting like you're quite fun to work with." Chase looked at me, "I don't wanna work with him either."

"It's just project. Will you two get over it? Geez."

Hunter shrugged, "I could work with Dylan. He lives with me anyways."

We all turned towards Dylan, who was munching on a sandwich. He was a pretty adorable guy.

He was also Hunter's bodyguard.

"Anything works for me, Sir." he replied with his mouthful.

Cora stared at him, "I have never seen something so cute yet so disgusting at the same time."

Agreed.

"I don't want to present, I would look like a moron." Chase complained.

"Don't worry, you already are one."

Before Chase could say something back Hunter had already walked out with Dylan hot on his heels.

I stifled a laugh while Chase scowled at me.

"I don't like him."

"Do you even like anyone?" Cora remarked taking a sip from her juice.

For a moment his eyes flickered to mine before he stood up as well and walked out. Ignoring his actions, Cora turned to me and began rambling about some alien movie she recently watched.
