I sat upright in my bed, breaths coming in short and fear through the roof. 'God... Another nightmare.' I began to rub the sleep from my eyes but stopped when I felt that my cheeks were wet. I quickly wiped away my tears and looked around my room. Everything was the same, my nightstand was where it was, my TV was off, and more importantly: there weren't any blood or body parts on my walls. I felt something shift next to me, so I looked over and as soon as I did I felt the heat rush to my cheeks. Lucas was sound asleep under my covers, nuzzling into my pillow and his arms now empty. 'He looks so peaceful.' I couldn't help but admire my boyfriend's perfect features as he slept. 'How long will this last, Adelina? You forget that you're not a normal girl.' I wish I could find a way to make this voice stop, but I don't know how. It is right, however I'm not normal and I never will be normal. I will never have a normal life, a normal family, nothing. I'll forever be a Lycanthrope. As my mood changed from afraid to dejected, I lay back down next to Lucas and hid my face into his chest. He moved again and his arms were around me once more. I smiled a bit and nuzzled into Lucas more.
Just then-
I hear someone singing outside. Shouldn't be strange right, in a world like this? My eyes were suddenly wide and unfocused. I got out of bed and climbed out my window. 'Adelina, what the hell are you doing?' The voice was so close but so distant. 'Where are we going?' I wasn't in control of my movements. I wasn't in control of my mind. I wasn't in control of anything.
'Adelina?'
'Adelina! Answer me!'
I walked into the woods, everything was still and quiet. The forest got denser, and denser, and denser. I kept following the mysterious singing. 'Don't listen to her! We don't know who it is!' The voice sounded like it was underwater. My mind was wandering through a fog while I continued walking through the dead of night. Eventually, I arrive at a clearing. Just as suddenly as it came, the feeling of not being in control left me and now I can finally focus on everything around me. Tall trees. Starless sky. Bright waning crescent moon. Ten people standing in front of me. Wait- 'Who are they??' I wish I could tell the voice an answer but I didn't know. I walked closer to the figures and saw a face I never want to see in a forest at night: Ginger. 'Why are her eyes glowing like that and... Are their eyes glowing too?' So many questions raced through my head as Ginger stepped forward. She made no subtle movements and no sound, but instead nodded towards me.
Just like that, the other nine that were with her came rushing at me with blazing speed. 'Those aren't humans! They're Vampires!' The voice in my head screamed. With no other choice, I finally let my inner wolf out of its cage and ran towards the vampires head on, clawing and biting, tearing and ripping my way through them. Their blood soaked into the grass and onto my fur. Soon, it was just me and Ginger in the field.
"I knew it," she scoffed, "you really are a mutt." I shifted back and stood in front of her. "You're a Nao." Ginger said it so calmly it gave me chills. "There's no way you're not a Nao too." I glared at her. She smirked and bared her fangs. My eyes widened. "Those aren't normal Vampire fangs." She smiled evilly. "No, they're not. You see only Vampires of royal blood get these fangs." She said as she licked her lips. 'Royal blood...?' I shook my head, "But you're an orphan!" She glared at me and her eyes glowed brighter. "That wasn't my choice! But having this blood, this ability.. Makes me a queen!"
"Adelina?" I whipped around and saw Lucas' terrified face. His eyes tell me he saw it all. He saw everything: my wolf, the vampires, her fangs, the massacre. 'He saw everything~' The voice in my head taunted. I felt the tears starting to form and took a step towards him. "Lucas-" I tried to reach for him but he stepped away from me. I can see his heart breaking.
"Why...? Why did you hide this? Didn't you trust me? Weren't we friends for 5 years?!" The tears flowed freely down his cheeks. "Lucas... I'm so sorry." My voice was shaky and breaking into pieces but I didn't care. "I didn't want you to hate me for something I couldn't control." Lucas balled up his fists, "You still could've told me! I've been hanging out with a werewolf and she never trusted me as much as I trusted her!" I don't blame him for yelling at me. My tears streamed faster and I repeatedly wiped my cheeks, my sobs getting louder and louder by the minute.
"Oh wow!" Ginger was bouncing around me, happy as can be. "This is better than I could ever hope for! The Mutt of the school lost her only friend and now she has no one by her side. Just like I said~" She said sing song like. My heart was breaking more and more, my tears grew heavier, and I was sinking into darkness. Then, I feel a pair of arms wrap around me. I hide my face into Lucas' neck as he held me tighter. "I'm so sorry for yelling and for making you cry... I just didn't know. I'm sorry Adelina." Why was he here? Why is he holding me?
Lucas kissed my head and said, "I forgive you for keeping secrets... I know now that you had your reasons." Ginger screamed in rage and pushed Lucas away from me. "You're supposed to hate her! She lied to you and manipulated you! Yet, you stay with her?!" She yelled and she yelled, but I knew Lucas didn't listen to a word she said. He walks past Ginger and pulled me to him. "You're my heart and joy, Adelina. I don't ever want to lose you." He then looked at Ginger with a cold stare. "You may think you're some hotshot just because you have special blood in you, but that doesn't mean shit to me. We already know that I'll gladly fight you and its obvious a Queen Vampire is nothing against a Lycanthrope." He held my waist and started to lead us to the edge of the clearing. But, Ginger ran up to Lucas and pulled him back. "Looks like I'll have to make myself a new loyal subject." She exposed Lucas' neck and bared her fangs.
'She's gonna turn him.' Everything started moving slowly around me. I watched as Ginger's fangs slowly got closer to Lucas' neck. I can see Lucas trying to pull away from her. 'Adelina! Do something!' I obeyed the voice in my head and shifted into a wolf. I sprinted towards them and jumped at Ginger, opening my muzzle and aiming for her neck. She must've seen me coming because the next thing I knew, she threw Lucas in front of her. I bite into Lucas' shoulder as his eyes grew wide and slowly went dull.
'What have I done...?'
