Lucas and I walked to together to our next period: Gym. I cleaned myself up a bit before we walked through the doors and stepped onto the basketball courts. However, we were greeted with a rapid fire of dodge balls flying left, right, up, down. Just EVERYWHERE. We covered ourselves and ran over to the coach, who was watching this school war from the sidelines. He didn't ask why we were late, what happened to my face, nothing. This guy didn't even bat an eye at us. "Both of you, head on over to the Blue Team." He commanded as he pointed towards the right side of the gym. My eyes landed on the Blue Team and my, my how we got screwed! Already more than half of the Blue Team was knocked out and sitting on the sidelines while the remaining players were desperately avoiding the flying balls of death coming from the Red Team.
"Wow... we're on the losing side of this game." Lucas whispered in my ear. I didn't ignore how his lips brushed past my ear, but it happened quite often so it wasn't completely out of the ordinary. I smirked and grabbed his shoulder, pulling him down to my level and whispered back, "I guess it's up to us to turn this game around." We smiled at each other and jumped into action. We launched ourselves onto the court and grabbed the red bouncy balls that were closest to us. Lucas was first to throw, however he missed. He grabbed another ball and threw it at a guy that was too busy trying to take out a small girl on our side. Lucas made a direct hit, sending the guy he hit to the sidelines and allowing one of our own teammates to come back in. On and on it went like this: Blue hit, Red side. Red hit, Blue side. On and on until finally, I knock out a guy that was aiming for a boy on my side. Lucas cheered me on and when I made contact, he ran to me and swept me up into a hug. Overall, the Blue Team won the game today. 'Talk about going from zeros to heroes!' I thought to myself. The tiny voice didn't have any snarky remarks, which was unusual.
After we put away the dodgeballs, Lucas was going on about how we should be called a Dynamic Duo or something because of our "awesome" skills. We packed up our stuff and began to leave when some football players stopped us dead in our tracks. They were about Lucas' height, maybe a little taller, which made me a bit over six inches shorter than them. They glared at Lucas before looking down at me.
"We heard about your little fight with our queen." One of them said, which caused all 3 of them to smirk at us. I did not wanna talk about her again. I stepped in-between Lucas and the guy who just talked. I maintained eye contact with him as I said, "It's none of your business, Meat Brick. Now move." I glared at them, but with them being taller and more intimidating than me, it was hard to try and scare them with me being scared. I rolled my eyes, giving up on the glare, and shouldered my way through the towering morons with Lucas on my tail. He placed his hand on my backpack, and it offered me a little comfort. A second later, however, I no longer felt his hand.
I whipped my head around to see my best friend being thrown to the ground. When he slammed into the gym floor, a sickening CRACK echoed throughout the gym. The remaining students in the gym stopped and watched us with horror. That crack was still going through my mind, replaying on a loop. It was enough to make me lose it. In the blink of an eye, I had tackled and pinned all three of the players to the ground. They groaned in pain and I sat on top of them and growled. Lucas was struggling to get up. 'They better not have hurt him!' I yelled in my mind. My three victims looked me in the eye. 'If they did, then you know what we have to do~' The voice cooed to me, and I liked the idea it had.
"Do you really want to fight me?~" I threatened to my prey. My coolness and dark tone made something inside of them snap. "Is this a joke? What makes you think you can beat us?" I felt them trying to move and flip me off of them, but I held them down with my wolf strength. I guess my strength caught them off guard because they began to struggle. I felt my eyes burn as I stared at them. Looking into the reflection of one of their eyes, I saw that they were glowing a brilliant, vibrant violet. "I've already won." Was my reply to them. Were they going to give up? No, they're not. 'Of course it's not that easy!' The voice in my had sounded annoyed, honestly I was too. The three of them managed to shove me off of them and I went tumbling to the side. I scrambled to my feet as one of them came sprinting towards me. I was seconds away from releasing the wolf inside, and it was howling for it's freedom.
Just when I was about to begin my transformation, Lucas came up from behind my attacker and swooped in front of me. He punched the oncoming attacker square in the cheek and completely knocked him off his feet. I held back the wolf once again as I stared at Lucas in amazement. 'He come to my help so fast! He managed to outrun a football player.' I awed in my head, but then a certain voice had to chime in as well. 'For a human swimmer, he's not bad on his feet. How are you two not dating yet?' I could hear the amusement in it's tone. 'Shut up.' I commanded as I punched another one of the football players. I made a solid contact with his eye and sent him flying into the wall. I heard a satisfying CRACK as he hit it, which earned a cringed sound from the little audience we had. The third player somehow managed to grab me from behind and refused to let me go. I was about to call for Lucas, but the moron put his hand over my mouth. I couldn't move. Lucas tried his best to loosen the grip, but the muscle-head elbowed him roughly and sent my best friend to the ground once again.
'I'm so fed up with this!' I thought to myself. "We already told you that you can't beat us." Muscle-Head #3 whispered harshly into my ear. I flinched away from his voice, but he roughly kept me in place. I let my wolf come out a little bit, enough to where my normal teeth turned into sharp ones. Once the change was complete, I bit into the hand covering my mouth, causing very heavy amounts of blood to come gushing out. His blood got into my mouth, but I didn't let go. He screamed and threw me around until I couldn't hold on anymore. I was sent flying into some bystanders, hitting them in the legs and causing them to crash onto me. Their weights landing on my side cause an incredible amount of pain to flare up.
I sprang back up and Lucas was already on another one of the guys when the coach stormed back into the gym, raging, "All five of you! Principal's office! Now!!" The three jerks were broken, bruised, and bleeding. I was bruised with very little blood and a slight limp. Lucas on the other hand, took heavier damage than me. His limp was worse than mine, I saw red near his eye and I knew he was going to get a black eye in a few hours. His lip was bleeding and his mouth was dripping blood while his nose had the beginnings of a nose bleed coming on. Then a thought hit me, 'That crack...'
"Lucas, did you break anything?! A bone or something?!" I was freaking out. He smiled warmly at me and calmly said, "I'm fine. The crack you heard was the school's tablet meeting it's death in my backpack." I sighed in relief and he took my hand. "Come on, Ms. Jacobs, we have to go to the Principal's office." He teased me. I grimace as I remembered who was in front of us. "Yeah, with the three morons." Lucas chuckled a little as we walked out of the gym
We waited for the Three Stooges to get out of the office. Lucas and I sat in the chairs outside by the door, side by side in dead silence. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Lucas' hands shaking and him trying to stop them by holding them together. I reached over and grabbed them, wrapping them into my own and I looked at him.
"Are you scared, Mr. Hunter?" I cautiously asked him. He caught onto the sarcastic note at the end and smiled for me a little, but it didn't reach his eyes. I don't like it when his smiles don't reach his eyes. He looked down at our hands and said, "Not as much." He said it so quietly, but with me being me, I heard him loud and clear. 'I'm glad I made him feel better,' I thought as I smiled. 'How long will it last, Adelina?' the voice asked me. It had a good question, but I chose to ignore it. Lucas moved his hands so that way our fingers were intertwined. We stayed like that for 10 minutes when the door finally opened. The football players walked out, saw us, and smirked. I stomped my foot at them, causing them to jump back and run away into the halls.
"Weaklings." I smiled. "Don't you think you've done enough today, Ms. Jacobs?" Our principal had his arms crossed over his chest and stood with a straight posture in his doorway. He stared at me with cold, dark brown eyes. 'I used to have brown eyes,' I thought sadly. "Hey, Mr. Seabourge..." Lucas was trembling slightly, so I gave his hands a reassuring squeeze. I know why he's shaking. "Follow me." Mr. Seabourge demanded as he uncrossed his arms and walked back into his office. Lucas and I got up and followed him inside, completely synchronized. I let go of his hand and closed the door behind us. After making sure it closed, I returned to Lucas' side as we stood in front of Mr. Seabourge's desk.
"I hope you know why you're both in my office." He said with a stern tone. "I defended myself and Lucas because those guys threw Lucas to the ground and tossed me into another student's legs, sir! It was all self-defense." I'm trying to resolve this and get us out of here quickly, for Lucas' sake, "Maybe it was self-defense, Ms. Jacobs. But, you bit into one of those player's hands so hard that he lost about 2 pints of blood and broke another one of the player's ribs." That crack I heard from him, I tried not to smile at the memory.
"How do you explain the damage you've cause to three male football players?" I looked away from him and said, "I can't sir." I looked back at him, but he had focused his attention on Lucas. "Mr. Hunter, your actions were not as serious as Ms. Jacob's. However, actions are actions. She broke their ribs while you knocked out two teeth, which makes this severe." Mr. Seabourge didn't even blink when he said that to Lucas. I take a chance and look at Lucas to see him not breathing, I think he's going to pass out.
He snapped himself out of his state and said, "Mr. Seabourge, sir, I only fought back because they were attacking Adelina, who - might I add - is a lot smaller than them and not as physically strong as them. They were attacking a girl, three on one. I could not stand idly by as my best friend fought off three of the school's renowned football players." Wow, Lucas actually sounded calm as he said that. "They were also the ones who provoked the fight and were witness to the one earlier today." Wait, what? Lucas reached into his bag and pulled out his broken tablet. He handed the tablet to Mr. Seabourge and began to tell him about the fight between me and Ginger. 'Oh my God Lucas, why? Why tell him about my fight with the queen?!' I cried in my head as the voice laughed at me. How much of that fight did Lucas actually see? Apparently a lot of it because he is able to tell Mr. Seabourge the events after Ginger's slap.
"If that's the case, then I'll have to look into these fights a bit more. Thank you for telling me about the fight with Ginger, Mr. Hunter. You are both free to go, so head on over to your last period of the day." With that, Lucas and I basically ran out of the office. Relief washed over me and I can tell Lucas was finally relaxing after getting out of the office. We continued to walk, Lucas held my hand and I held his.
