"Okay thank you, sir" Ignoring the pain in her arm from the drip, Arianna gathered her bags and her medicine in her hand. She opened the door to the car. She set her feet on the floor and immediately felt a tremendous pain erupt in her ankle, knee, and lap, but she didn't want to worry Mr. Miller anymore than she already had so she faked a smile and waved at him.
Placing one foot after the other, she limped carefully and slowly, hoping he wouldn't notice the pain she felt.
His heart broke to see the state of the woman before him. She looked so fragile walking across the road, each step harder than the last. Could he have prevented her pain?
Maybe not, but he could help now. Slamming the car door shut, he walked around and hooked his arms beneath her back and knees. She flinched at the sudden touch and began to protest.
"Allow me," he said both as an apology and a request. Instinctively, she melted into his strong arms.
