Chapter 7 - Campus World

Xiao Weiwei knew that even though Hu Ying wanted to visit Ye Miaomiao, he always kept his distance in fear of Hu Lin. Well, not so much fear but more that he was aware of the current affairs. Since he was just a child, his parents had guardianship over him and could make decisions for him that he could not really fight against. And this worked perfectly for Xiao Weiwei because she felt she didn't really have to fight Hu Ying directly. So she first delayed his visit to Ye Miaomiao with all kinds of excuses related to her. If it was not "brother, l feel unwell since l take care of Ye Miaomiao so much" then it was "help me with homework, the high school entrance exam is coming soon". Xiao Weiwei took advantage of Hu Ying's gratitude towards her to block him in various ways and also speed up Ye Miaomiao's depression.

Ye Miaomiao believed that Hu Ying had abandoned her and Xiao Weiwei wanted to keep it that way.

Everytime Hu Ying asked: "Can you sneakily make an opportunity for me to go see Ye Miaomiao?", she would remind him of her poor speaking skills and how it was likely that their parents would misunderstand something. Hu Ying thought this excuse was reasonable so he stopped asking her to create opportunities after a while. Even during school time, Xiao Weiwei would make sure she inserted herself into his group of friends and soon, they were all calling her little sister as if her appearance there was normal.

This also drew a wave of hatred from some girls because Hu Ying's friends were all handsome and had backgrounds so they were very sought after but Xiao Weiwei didn't pay attention to them. 'What's the use of looking for boyfriends now? Are these girls serious? The high school entrance exam is so hard and the competition is so stiff! How do they think they'll move to better schools if they remain so fixated on background?' These thoughts were never vocalised but Xiao Weiwei couldn't help it - she felt as though the world had no logic or common sense. Because of this, she couldn't help but think back to her life before the system. She was also like this - chasing after idols, reading novels and worrying about how good she looked. All these trivial things were real worries for her but now she wants to laugh.

When there are no adversities to face, it's easy for people to have stupid worries.

But what came next really made Xiao Weiwei annoyed. One day, when she was at school doing practice papers for the entrance exam, the principle summoned both her and Hu Ying and asked them to go to his office.

Xiao Weiwei's heart skipped a beat and she felt that something bad was about to happen. This was her intuition which she trusted very much. Then she thought back to the diary that she'd locked in the safe and became nervous. She walked purposefully slowly to the office whilst thinking about how to overturn things if it was true that the diary was found by her mother. However, when she came in, she saw Hu Lin, her mother and Ye Miaomiao's mother Ye Lian and was taken aback. This development was unexpected and she rubbed her eyes twice to confirm that things were real and not hallucinations.

There was tension in the air and the principle had a frustrated expression on his face. Hu Lin didn't keep her guessing for too long. He immediately told both her and Hu Ying to kneel.

Xiao Weiwei didn't say anything and just knelt - she didn't want to speak rashly incase she exposed herself. She had some wild guesses in her heart but those couldn't be verified at the moment. She was smart but she forgot that Hu Ying was still arrogant in his bones - even if it was his parents, he would never want to take such a humiliating stance. People knelt to him not the other way round. So he just calmly asked: "Dad, what's the problem?"

Hu Lin gritted his teeth in anger: "You stupid boy! How could you spend 50,000 yuan of our families' money on this Ye Miaomiao? Are you mad?"

Xiao Weiwei's body tensed. She never knew how Hu Lin found out about this. She had always been extremely careful when using the money. She'd opened a new bank account and deposited the money in cash there under a different name. She did make regular payments to the hospital but it was all under different names so she was confused as to how this was exposed.

Xiao Weiwei had a loose expression on her and her facial control wasn't very good so she showed her confusion and slight anxiousness. Old fritters like Hu Lin who had been in business for very long could also read facial expressions and he knew that she'd been dragged into it. He was very disappointed that Ye Miaomiao seemed to have a devil's grip on his children. 'What kind of ecstacy soup did this girl give my children that they're treating her so wholeheartedly?' This kind of thinking was also normal - in high society, things were never given for free. Everything always exchanged out of interest and benefits so that all parties were satisfied. This system was also copied in Xinghua.

The system also felt that Xiao Weiwei was not feeling alright. She'd had too much success that this situation put her at a loss so he quickly spoke: "Why are you discouraged? Think it through slowly." The system said these vague words because it didn't want to become Xiao Weiwei's spiritual support. A tasker had to be strong on their own and not rely on the system. If it continued giving revelations to Xiao Weiwei like this, she would subconsciously rely it on more and more for strategies without developing her own way of thinking. If one day the system could not be accessed for some reason, she would be in a total mess.

Xiao Weiwei took a deep breath to calm down and thought through her situation. While Hu Lin and Hu Ying were having arguments about paying hospital fees, she was quickly analyzing where she went wrong. And finally, she comforted herself: 'I'm not God! There will be situations that l am unprepared for - l just have to react quickly and adapt.'

After sorting her momentary distress and self-doubt, Xiao Weiwei decided to use this opportunity to drag Ye Miaomiao's parents into the fight. She pouted and told Hu Lin: "Actually, it's just that mental illnesses are not so easy to treat - the patient has to be in a comfortable, relaxing environment to be able to let go of the shadows in her heart." Ye Miaomiao's mother blushed and lowered her head in shame. Hu Ying then scolded her for being heartless and ridiculing the Ye Miaomiao's house for being chaotic: "How can you say such things so casually?"

Xiao Weiwei placed her hand on her head and sighed helplessly: "It's not a lie though brother. Also, this background is what caused her depression in the first place." Not to mention Hu Lin, even the principle agreed with this logic. Do you think Xiao Weiwei was being nice? No way, she was just using the name of logic to stab Ye Miaomiao's mother for being a prositute and causing her daughter problems. She was very happy to see the villain index increasing. The system expressed disdain for this kind of method and tutted twice: "It's nice to be so eloquent but wait until you get to a martial arts world where fists are the law and words are air." Xiao Weiwei also didn't bother trying to fight with this cynical system and gave it the middle finger.

Ye Lian's eyes widened in surprised and her eyes watered. She never knew that her work would cause problems for her daughter.

Hu Lin also looked at Ye Lian sympathetically because he understood a parent's worries. But how much time did he have to worry about other people's families? His hard earned money was being spent on others and this money wasn't a small amount. So he needed an explanation today from all parties so he could recover it.

Hu Ying knew his father very well and knew that his father hated loss making businesses the most so he continued Xiao Weiwei's morality argument: "Dad, l'm just helping a classmate with medical bills sincerely. This is a donation!"

But Hu Ying didn't know he was being pitted by his family. Such an admission was spoken and it wasn't recorded? If it wasn't recorded, Xiao Weiwei would chop her leg off. There was no way this wouldn't come back to bite Hu Ying in the ass. She also saw some sneaky movement from Hu Lin and knew that her guess was right. Some confidence also came back and her IQ was very online. Hu Lin also asked again to confirm: "It's a donation and nothing to do with feelings for Ye Miaomiao?" Hu Ying nodded vigorously and even swore: "I have no feelings for Ye Miaomiao."

Ye Lian also looked at Hu Ying complicatedly. It's not as though she didn't know from Ye Miaomiao that there was a rich young master who she was friends with. But having seen the dark side of society, she knew that words were cheap and nothing could be trusted. So she'd counselled Ye Miaomiao to cautious and restrain herself. But she couldn't help but feel sad that her worries were confirmed.

If Xiao Weiwei knew this train of thought, she would've just laughed. What is love? What are feelings? Can you eat and drink emotions? In the face of rising house prices, high food prices and job scarcity, everyone wants to live well so there must be some sacrifice. Some people sacrifice their love and others sacrifice friends and family. Others sacrifice morality and do some shady background deals. All in all, these behaviours are done for people to live luxurious lifestyles. Just because Hu Ying sacrifices love, he's being judged by others? Is this fair?

Even though Xiao Weiwei knows that Hu Ying is arrogant and immature, if she was in the same position as him, she couldn't say for sure whether she would do the opposite. If you think about it from Hu Ying's perspective, he depends on Hu Lin for everything and is deeply aware that without Hu Lin, he is nothing. This kind of mentality makes him very clear headed when dealing with Ye Miaomiao whose background is lower than him. Xiao Weiwei also took advantage of this knowing that Hu Ying would choose Hu Lin and his future prospects to create a gap between Hu Ying and Ye Miaomiao.

If a small junior Xiao Weiwei can think about it, why couldn't Hu Lin?

Xiao Wieiwei dared to bet her life that if Ye Miaomiao was like Hong Lili with a strong military family behind her, Hu Ying would also have confidence that Hu Lin would never separate them. At most, he would just tell them to act restrained until college and then they would get married.

This small incident was solved very peacefully after Hu Ying separated himself from Ye Miaomiao and Hu Lin gave the recording to Hu Weiwei's mother. He couldn't come out directly because he was an elder and a man so Hu Weiwei's mother did it instead. She chose a weekend and went directly to the hospital where Ye Miaomiao was. Xiao Weiwei also clamoured to go but she wasn't allowed to so she decided to come with a strategy to finish the trial world. She checked the world completion and saw that it'd reached 70%. Only three major events needed to happen and then she would finish the task. What made her depressed was that her villain index was only 50 - she didn't really know how to increase it and the system never said anything so she could only take some rough guesses.

Hu Weiwei's mother Song Xia also got ready to see Ye Miaomiao. She put on very delicate makeup and dressed up in a very aristocratic style - all the clothes on her body were high end and luxury brands. Even her small purse alone was 100,000 yuan. These things wouldn't normally be worn but she just wanted Ye Miaomiao to understand the difference in power and standing.
