Hu Ying's scalp was numb and he felt scared when he read the diary. His hands couldn't stop shaking and he leaned against a chair because his legs were also shaking. Don't think he was being cowardly - reading a book that recorded all his daily movements for years made Hu Ying think Xiao Weiwei was a pervert through and through. 'How could my kind sister be a stalker?!' was the thought that ran through his mind many times. He never understood his sister much but this incident made him very confused and he felt repulsed being related to such a sick person.
'Maybe she has some kind of mental illness?'
But this thought was dismissed because if Xiao Weiwei was truly mentally ill, that would be even more scary. This is because if a mentally ill person could act normal and deceive others, then who knows how many bad things they've done in secret that are yet to be uncovered.
This line of thinking threatened Xiao Weiwei's white lotus character and the system was also watching in apprehension, hoping the character settings wouldn't collapse. It had its own reasons as to why it wanted Xiao Weiwei to act pure and innocent but the main task of being a villain had to be done. Seeing that Hu Ying could easily connect all those villainous actions back to Xiao Weiwei, the system was nervous since this would mean his experiment failed. It's not that Xiao Weiwei would fail the task if she was exposed because she wouldn't BUT it would mean its plans couldn't be followed and it could only think of other ways.
Hu Ying quickly looked left, then right to check if there was anyone staring at him then he took the diary back upstairs to his own. He refused to see Xiao Weiwei and give her back the diary - that would be directly admitting that he knew all the things that she'd done. Still, he could never treat her as lightly as before and he really didn't want to see her. So for the rest of the week, he intentionally avoided her and also made his friends take alternative routes to school and the cafeteria so none of them could talk to her.
Xiao Weiwei couldn't care less since she knew that Hu Ying found the diary. She went to school anyway to have fun seeing Ye Miaomiao and Hu Ying interact. It was very entertaining to see Hu Ying being ignored and rejected all the time. Ye Miaomiao never gave him the time of day as if she had no eyes or ears - whatever he said or did was ignored. This made Hu Ying very frustrated because he didn't understand what had happened in between. For him, he hadn't spoken to Ye Miaomiao for a week and now she was acting cold and unfamiliar. To understand why this happened, he could only bite the bullet and approach Xiao Weiwei. But Xiao Weiwei didn't want to tell him the answer too easily. When he came to her the first time, she said: "I like you so much but you're still mention Ye Miaomiao! You're so cruel!" then she ran away crying. Hu Ying just frowned at her and felt disgusted but he didn't continue asking her anything about it.
What made Hu Ying even more crazy was that those rich young masters also started approaching Ye Miaomiao again since she had some support from a hidden rich grandpa and they all wanted that connection. So, Ye Miaomiao was surrounded by boys all the time and she was both delighted and sad. Delighted because she was not being as bullied as before but sad because she knew that she could never be the same as before when treating money as air. She took advantage of all this to squeeze as many benefits as possible from these boys since she knew they were not sincere to her.
Xiao Weiwei now saw a different part of the system's interface. In addition to the villain index and the plot completion bars, she saw character deviation bars for all the main characters in the story. She was shocked to see that Ye Miaomiao's character bar moved from 0 to 30% in one go and she had many questions: "Hey system! What does this character deviation mean? Is this Ye Miaomiao's true character or is this just her reaction to a change in plot?"
The system was silent for a bit and then said the truth: "This is a bit early to say but this is Ye Miaomiao's true character. How do l put this? The male and female protagonists are all favoured by the heavens so they have high luck - this luck means that no matter what they do, they'll benefit from it and reach the pinnacle of life. However, when this luck is stolen, they also gradually lose favour and their true self is revealed. For example, if the female protagonist originally worships money, with the favour of heaven, this characteristic is seen by others as being realistic. In short, the shortcomings of the person become strengths because of high luck..."
Xiao Weiwei also wanted this kind of God level luck: "Hey, what are the odds of the heavens favouring me?"
The system couldn't help but poke at her: "And what benefit do you bring the heavens? You're just a soul - you don't even have a real body! And you have no skills! Don't think l don't remember all your history of being lazy and being pampered by others in your original world."
Embarrassed, Xiao Weiwei rubbed her nose and then stopped talking. She didn't want anymore abuse from the system and its jokes were always at her expense. Her mind moved to other more important matters and she wanted to finish the task quickly. She wanted to expose herself as the mastermind of all the plots or at least give Hu Ying some sort of hint for plot progression. However, Xiao Weiwei didn't know that she didn't have to worry since others were more anxious than her.
Speaking of that old hidden grandpa, he was also surprised to see that when he was being mistreated by some random people on the roadside, a kind school student stood up for him and argued with them eloquently. She not only solved the problem at hand but also made sure everyone reconciled. He appreciated her gentle and elegant personality so he asked: "Young girl, why are you here alone? Where are your parents?'
Ye Miaomiao was also sad and her eyes reddened showing she'd suffered grievances: "Actually, l barely have parents. My father abandoned me when l was in my mother's womb and my mother is too busy making money to care about me." She said things very vaguely and told half-truths. It was true that her mother Ye Lian was busy sleeping with men to maintain the family and her father didn't claim her when she was born so she was abandoned. But she avoided mentioning the prostitution - that may lower his appreciation of her.
If Xiao Weiwei was there, she would have laughed knowing that Hu Ying and Ye Miaomiao were really too similar. They both could tell lies and do all kinds of things in order to progress in society. This wasn't necessarily a bad thing now but it could be a dangerous trait to have in the future. Instead of simple white lies and manipulation, they could get involved in murder, framing and blackmail. Some people call this ambition but it's actually called unscrupulousness.
The old hidden grandpa sighed feeling that Ye Miaomiao had gone through so much at a young age. He introduced himself as 'Wang Xi' and asked about the other difficulties she was facing. Ye Miaomiao also had a sense of measure so she replied: "There's nothing else that is too difficult for me to handle."
"Since this is the case, then l will leave and whether we meet again is up to fate." Wang Xi thanked her for helping and then left. Ye Miaomiao regretted that she couldn't keep him and could only walk back to her house gloomily. But she didn't know that not saying anything made Wang Xi think she was embarrassed and that she didn't want to burden him with her problems. So he paid some private detectives to investigate her thoroughly and all her troubles were shaken out - everything from the bullying at school, to her family background and her relationship with Hu Ying were presented neatly on an A4 sheet of paper on Wang Xi's desk.
Ye Miaomiao had nowhere to hide. Wang Xi furrowed his eyebrows reading all this information and then he slowly played with the walking stick beside his chair. This was what he normally did when he was thinking deeply.
After a long while, he pressed a button under his desk and his butler came in. He gave some instructions and then let him go out. Wang Xi knew that there were too many culprits that were all responsible for these events but he wasn't in a rush. Since they wanted to play with his saviour, he would play with them slowly until they all smashed to death.
The first thing he dealt with was naturally the thug incident that happened at the school.
On Hu Ying's side, after school ended, he went back home and then went to read Xiao Weiwei's diary even though it gave him chills. Speaking of that diary, even though Xiao Weiwei never wrote in it, words still appeared at the end of every day and she applauded the tenacity of the plot. So when Hu Ying was finally focused enough to read some of the latest entries of the diary, he was surprised to see that somethings were suspicious. For starters, it was true that Xiao Weiwei never had any friends so why did she suddenly write about Chen Jiayin in her diary? Also why did she give Ye Miaomiao her spare uniform and help her after she was bullied? These were suspicious to him because at this point, Xiao Weiwei was very much in love with him. How could someone help their own rival in love? It's impossible for help to be given unless the person has already given up: 'But Hu Weiwei never gave up! Until about a week ago, she was still acting as a cute and sweet younger sister and l had a very good impression of her before.'
Hu Ying scratched his head in irritation but he really couldn't figure it out. Then suddenly, an idea came to him: 'Since l can't think about it myself, why not bring my friends to brainstorm with me? Someone must have enough brain to understand what's going on!' After the plan was made, Hu Ying hid the diary in a small space behind his wardrobe and then went to eat food. Xiao Weiwei was very thin-skinned that such a matter had been revealed even though it wasn't her own feelings and for a while. She didn't have the courage to eat with the entire family. She avoided everyone except Hu Ying but because Hu Ying avoided her, she was basically alone most of the time.
Because it was a rare peace of time where all she had to do was study, Xiao Weiwei thought about her previous world a lot more. Even though she tried to avoid it, she kept thinking about her elder sister a lot.
In fact, her own story was just as sad as Hu Weiwei's and very similar too. She was the youngest and her sister Xiao Tingting was the eldest. Originally her mother couldn't conceive so both her and Xiao Weiwei's father adopted Xiao Tingting from the orphanage as their first child. They never intended to have another child and they treated Xiao Tingting very wholeheartedly. This went on for 10 years until Xiao Tingting was 16 and then everyone got shocked when Xiao Weiwei's mother got pregnant by mistake. Not to mention, at this point, Xiao Weiwei's mother had already reached age 40 so this was quite a miracle. But faced with the possibility of having her own flesh and blood, Xiao Weiwei's mother persevered and gave birth to Xiao Weiwei. This pregnancy and birth almost took her life so her body was injured and her vitality hit. But still, Xiao Weiwei was treated very enthusiastically by her parents. They gave her the stars, moon and the sun and if she wanted the earth, they would've tried to give it to her too. But this pampering and coddling also caused a lot of friction between Xiao Weiwei's parents and Xiao Tingting.
Xiao Tingting had hit puberty and became very rebellious because she thought that her parents were deliberating neglecting her and were biased towards Xiao Weiwei. So she continued acting outrageously, hanging out with bad characters and skipping classes. Because Xiao Weiwei's parents felt guilty, they let her act more and more wildly while indulging Xiao Weiwei and this led Xiao Tingting to mistakenly think that her parents gave up on her.
The system interrupted Xiao Weiwei's recounting of the past to stop her from being too emotional: "If you have time to reminisce, you might as well do something more useful to the task such as researching which mental hospital you want to live in for a while."
Xiao Weiwei rolled her eyes at the shamelessness of the system: "Even the mental hospital has to be researched? Can mentally ill people choose which hospital they're put in? If they could, they wouldn't be going there in the first place."
"Oh- your IQ is finally online again? Good! I was getting tired of listening to your sob stories. Who hasn't suffered losses in life? Just move on." The system also brought up the system interface for her to see so Xiao Weiwei was brought back to the task easily.
