Chapter 142 - Escaping

Her eyes shot open and Eva instantly sat up noticing that her surroundings were not the same as before.

'The last thing I remember, I was grabbing Kai's pants as if my life depended on it...'

Her eyes darted around hurriedly, the first thought in her mind being if she was kidnapped again.

'Really? Again? It's the third time for fuck's sake!'

'Try something new...'

The area was dark and she wandered around, feeling as if she was looking for something aimlessly without making an outcome. The side effects of the fever seemed to have vanished as she walked around and raised her hand to touch a wall.

The rock was grimy and rough and she moved her hand away, turning around to find her way out as she wondered where she was.

'Isabella's doing?'

But something didn't feel right... Out of nowhere fog suddenly rose out from everywhere blurring her sight as she waved her hands around to clear her vision. 'Is this Asher's pathetic way of taking revenge knowing Theo wasn't around?'

'People like Isabella and Asher deserve special curse words made just for them...'

Missing her step, she stumbled through the haze and her eyes caught sight of a silhouette in the farthest corner of the massive chamber. Brows narrowing down, Eva slowly approached the figure, her curiosity taking over that small shiver of fear that ran down her spine.

The figure reminded her of somebody in particular but Eva shrugged that thought away. He was out of the question.

'Right?'

Her breath got caught in her throat as she saw the shadow turning his neck around but just then she gasped out and straightened up in her bed.

Darkness clouded her vision as she looked around, panting heavily as if she had run a mile or two. 'Another dream huh?'

However, this time Eva crossed her legs and lowered her eyes wondering whether this was actually a dream or not. The possibility was low since it felt too real unlike any of the other visions which she had formerly. In the previous ones she had always felt as if she wasn't where she was supposed to be, along with the indescribable urge to wake up or run away as far as she could.

This one was different...

Shaking her head, she got up from her bed and felt pain arise all over her body. Groaning lightly, Eva once again stood thinking whether she should train without anyone knowing or go back to resting.

The latter felt too lazy and dull for her so she opted for the former as a final resort. Stretching her hands above her head, she headed off to the closet to pick out her clothes so she could freshen up as quickly as possible.

Fifteen minutes later, Eva slid open her balcony door and darted her eyes around. Like a criminal out in the open, she felt trepidation flow inside her blood as she stepped out and felt the cool breeze on her face with a relieved sigh.

Peeking down the rails, she gulped at the large distance and shifted her focus onto Plan B. Grabbing her bed sheets, she brought extra ones out from her closet and hurriedly started tying them from the ends to self-construct a rope.

'Please don't slip...' she prayed silently inside her head and tied it to one of the railings as tightly as her fingers allowed her to.

Breathing out, she cast a final glance toward her room and jumped off with a small smile. She closed her eyes as she grabbed onto the rope and didn't dare look down in case of nausea. 'I can do this... Hopefully?'

Gripping the material securely with her hands, she started sliding down the length of the rope slowly, internally hoping nobody she knew would see her climbing out like a thief in the morning.

Her boots touched the ground and Eva let out a small giggle, proud that she managed to do something by herself without anyone's help. Whirling around, she quickly made her way in the opposite direction of the market.

A few days ago, before the horrifying incident, Gwen had told her that a vast forest was located near the house which she hadn't visited in a while. Eva knew it was a perfect place to train and practice without anyone knowing unless this was the day Gwen picked to make a short trip.

Feeling free, she took the chance to admire the breathtaking scenery that Eden was gifted with. Whoever saw this place would surely fall in love the very next second just like she did.

'How much did he suffer then, when he stayed away from his home for so long?'

Eva bit her lip, trying her best not to think about him when it would only make her worry more which decreased her focus ultimately. Her heart would have to wait since she had other things to manage currently. It was her way of running away from the pain which came along attached with him.

It would be a lie if she were to say that she wasn't scared out of her wits.

'And that's why I can't let you catch me...'

Her eyes caught sight of the massive tree which blocked her path and she managed to stop in time so as to not plant her face in it and suffer the consequences.

How did I not see it?

'You were too busy thinking about him like always-"

Eva shut her thoughts out, slowly stepping inside the clump of trees that greeted her path. Whipping around, she walked backward and her lips parted in awe at the utter beauty of the place.

Her hands grazed the barks of the trees as she looked up to not lose her gaze on the sky. This couldn't end like the last time, there was no Theo this time to save her from falling...

'He isn't even here and I'm still thinking about him again and again!'

Rolling her eyes, she unconsciously smiled and then stopped when she saw that the forest grew darker from then on. Her instinct warned her from going in further and this time, she gladly listened to it and stopped.

Facing a nearby tree, she cracked her neck and got in the standard position that Kai had taught her.

'Please don't let anybody enter my room while I'm here...'
