Leaves crunched under her feet as she walked toward her house. The sky appeared dark, without any sort of light to greet her.
No stars.
No Moon.
No companion.
No him...
Her family's house in Gleana materialized to be gloomy and abandoned. There wasn't her mother standing at the door to welcome her back home. No sister, no father either. She was just as alone here as she always was.
Her demons were her only company. Forever and ever...
Her feet automatically moved forward, as if she had lost their control instantly. A shiver of fear crept down her spine as she gulped, looking around to find a face she remembered.
The trees felt like stalkers, the sky a burden, and oxygen unnecessary. Soon, she was standing right outside her house's door, but some human instinct kept her back from going inside. It was as if her subconscious was warning her, stuck deep inside her head somewhere but still preventing her from going inside.
With her body not under her control, it wasn't up to Eva to enter or not. The situation reminded her of when she was locked up.
All alone.
No free will.
Only her demons tossing her around like a plaything.
The door creaked open, as she placed her right foot on the threshold. It was dark everywhere, just like outside. Squinting her eyes, she tried to clear her vision and that was when the Moon showed up all of a sudden, out of nowhere.
She didn't see it, but the sudden silver light that filled the entrance was proof enough. The sight that she was greeted with made her wish that the Moon had never appeared in the first place.
A small gasp escaped her trembling lips as she placed her hand on her mouth to choke in a scream.
There was her mother, lying in a pool of blood with her entire head missing from her body. The clothes she was wearing were the same ones she had always worn when her father stayed at the house for a small break. He loved that dress on her, and she and her sister had always watched from far away.
Ven had vowed to find a man even more loving than their father. But she wasn't here anymore to search for her partner in life.
Why?
Because of her.
It was all because of her.
Her mother was dead because she was one of her weaknesses.
Her sister died since they wanted to keep an eye on her. They killed an innocent young child just for the sake of keeping watch on her.
She wasn't so sure how her father passed away anymore. Was that also their doing?
Three innocent people's blood was on her hands. People who had taken her in after she was abandoned, fed her, gave her a bed, a roof to sleep under, clothes to wear, and full access to any means of knowledge.
It was all her fault...
She was bad luck anywhere she went...
Looking down at her shaky hands, she watched as they started to drip with blood, defiling the floors that she had walked on as a kid.
Her mother's decapitated body made her want to vomit, but she choked on her own saliva instead. A sudden light came from a room she recognized as her own. Suffocating on her own sobs, she made her way reluctantly towards the light. The floorboards creaked beneath her feet as her white nightgown flowed due to the cool wind that entered through the open door. Pushing back the half-open bedroom door, she fell to her knees at the scene in front of her.
"No..."
Right on top of her bed, her mother's decapitated bloody head stood. The shock on her face resembled the very expression she had when dying. Just beside her, stood two other beheaded faces she recognized at once.
Crawling away from the traumatizing sight, her eyes remained glued to Vanessa's face. Her face, when she was a toddler, still had hopes and dreams of living. Two small tears slid down her elder sister's hollow eyes as her father's head whispered,
"It's your fault."
Eva shook her head, trying to block out his voice, placing her hands on her ears to shut him out.
"We are dead all because of you."
"You are a disappointment."
"A bad omen..."
The last sentence he spoke made her want to choke herself and die at that very moment.
"I wish you were never born."
Grabbing the nearby wall, she heaved herself up and whirled around. Running as fast as her feet could take her, she stumbled past her mother's corpse and didn't look back. Her vision was blurred and through her tears, she saw the Enchanted Forest at a distance.
The very place she had met him...
Brought him disappointment too...
The sharp click of boots echoed throughout the silent area, and it didn't take her a second to realize who it belonged to. Hoping she wasn't hallucinating, she slowly turned around to see him standing at a distance. Though her tears wouldn't stop, she couldn't help but feel hopeful at the sight of him standing there.
Taking a step forward, testing, she started walking towards him when she saw him remain unmoving in his spot. Something felt wrong to her. He wasn't moving an inch, not even blinking back at her when she tried speaking to him through her glazed orbs.
Reaching the spot where he was standing stationary, Eva hesitantly raised her trembling fingers to touch his face. Her hand met his skin and small cracks formed on his face at her touch.
Ever so slowly, his face crumbled away into nothing but ash as her hand remained suspended in the air. Without his head, his body fell haphazardly to the ground while her lips parted but nothing managed to come out.
She couldn't scream even if she wanted to. Her voice felt as if it was no longer there.
Was this the ultimate end?
This was what awaited her in the future?
Her eyes lowered to look at the body that had held her so many times, she had forgotten count. Her family's bodies that were still rotting in that house where she had run away from...
Closing her eyes, she let herself fall back, succumbing to the darkness that was now surrounding her and his body.
Make it end.
Please...
