It took her a while to raise her head back up again and when she did, her eyes were quick to travel to the tall glass walls. It was now getting darker, the sky had been painted a bluish shade of purple indicating that it was evening.
Her instincts told her that she had slept for more than an hour as she got up and felt her neck ache due to the posture she had slept in. The hollowness she felt didn't go away as she approached the bathroom instead of going to the balcony. If her family was still alive, she would've probably gone to the balcony first. The hopeful and joyous Evangeline Blythe seemed to have died inside her, all those days that she had been locked up. All those hours in which she had reminisced every memory and felt the life seep out of her very soul.
The only part of her that she thought was still alive seemed to be locked in a cage that she had made for herself. Behind countless walls, that cage resided and unless someone was brave and powerful enough to plunge into her darkness, she was sure she would remain confined inside that abyss for eternity.
She looked at herself in the mirror. The brightness of her ember had dimmed as well and a small, quiet voice in the back of her mind spoke, 'No. Not for eternity. Take your revenge and then... leave.'
Leave? Where? She hadn't ever considered dying as a serious thought but now it seemed a brilliant and suitable idea for her after-revenge party.
His face appeared inside her mind. But won't Theo be disappointed in her? If she did that, wouldn't it prove that Isabella and Diana had actually won and she was broken from deep within? All these thoughts clouded the picture of his face as doubts loomed over every corner of her mind.
Her trembling hands gripped the sink with all the force she could muster and Eva decided that she would think about all that after getting revenge. She wouldn't have cared this much if Isabella had tortured and killed her, but she had touched her family. Her non-biological family but that didn't matter, not to her at least. She would make that Queen pay as a vivid image of Vanessa as a child entered her mind. How scared was her sister when Diana heartlessly murdered her at such a young age?
Eva raised her head to catch a glimpse of herself in the mirror but at that very moment, something unexpected occurred. The mirror in front of her cracked, small chinks of it clattering down into the sink that exploded the very next second under her grip.
Eva stumbled back in shock as her back met the wall and she stared at the chaotic mess she had caused. How did-? Her shaky pupils darted around the scattered pieces of marble and soon she heard a loud thud over her room's door.
"Fuck, Eva open the door." came his silky dark voice, and she immediately relaxed at his presence even though he was standing outside the door.
"I'm fine—"
"I said, open the fricking door." the calmness in his tone unnerved her as she carefully crept up to the entryway and twisted the knob open.
This time his face didn't appear in her mind, he was right in front of her. He wasted no time in grabbing her arms, scanning her up and down before he ventured inside the room and looked around frantically.
"What was that noise?" he asked, turning around to gaze at her with wild rage flickering in his eyes like the brightest stars of the night.
"I- I—" she stuttered unable to form words for a second and a new fear rose inside her. What would he say when he saw the scene inside the bathroom? Would he consider her a torment? A witch? A bringer of doom? Would he- would he ask her to leave forever?
"Hey." he took her hands in his which had now started shaking uncontrollably and placed them on both sides of his face. "Look at me."
It took her every bit of her strength to raise her head and stare back into his eyes. What she saw in them, made her gasp out loud as she slid her hands down to his chest and squeezed his shirt tightly.
"Point me," he spoke, the warmth of him engulfing her instead of the suffocation she always expected. With a new stable hand, she pointed her forefinger in the direction of the bathroom.
He didn't leave her standing there alone as she had predicted him to. And that was what he had always been doing, the complete opposite of whatever thought she had about him. And it frustrated her to endless lengths. Was she supposed to concentrate on Plan 1 which consisted of revenge and then leaving or...
No, there was no room for hope left for her. There was no future because she was hollow inside and living with that abyss inside her was ruining her every second of the day. And to make it all ten times worse, she now had the power to destroy stuff. The time when she had thrown Diana back replayed inside her mind. She still hadn't told him about it.
Taking her hand, he walked toward the bathroom, waking her up from her train of despairing thoughts. He didn't gasp when he saw the broken mirror frame or shout at her and look disappointed at the sight of the cracked sink. All he did was turn around and ask, "Are you alright?"
Even though tears welled up in her eyes at that question, she managed to force the flood back and nod. "I'm fine."
He nodded in reply but surprised her by pulling her wrist as she ended up crashing her body against his. She felt his lips near her ear as her breath hitched and the feel of him made her forget everything else around her.
The only people who existed were her and him.
"Lier," he whispered and a small bead of water slid down her cheek. His lips found the tear before it could slide down her neck and she breathed at the contact, her emotions a wild mess.
He knew everything and she wondered how the hell he did. His hands smoothened the top of her head and then slid in smoothly into her bundle of silver hair. Her body relaxed against his as she breathed in his darkness and found that she had finally found her safe haven.
Her safe haven was in the arms of a Vampire.
A demon.
A devil.
A monster.
But no matter who he was, she was now sure that she wouldn't regret plunging into the depths of his abyss. Before dying and leaving this world, she could at least try and repay him for all that he did for her.
It was then that Eva decided that she would help him find peace within himself.
Solace with himself.
She would make him learn how to love himself,
Before taking her last breath.
